Right then, that brings an end to the series. Litton Das collects the trophy and joins his jubilant teammates for the customary photos. This wraps up Bangladesh's tour of the West Indies. The Test series ended in a hard-fought 1-1 draw, while the West Indies dominated the ODI series with a clean sweep, only for Bangladesh to return the favour by whitewashing the T20I series. With this, both teams conclude their cricketing commitments for the year. The West Indies will be back in action in January with a two-match Test series in Pakistan. We hope you enjoyed our coverage. Until next time, take care and goodbye!
The captain of Bangladesh, Litton Das says that the head coach Phil Simmons gives them the freedom to express themselves. Adds that they were not under any pressure despite being whitewashed in the ODI series. Feels that the batters did well in all games and 189 was an excellent total on this wicket. Shares that they are trying to improve with every game in all three departments.
The captain of West Indies, Rovman Powell says that they bowled well during the middle overs but could not execute well during the Powerplay and at the death. Feels that they need to avoid wickets losing wickets in clusters. Adds that losing wickets in the Powerplay has become a pattern in the last few series. Reckons that taking some time off as a T20 group will help them in assessing well. Lauds Bangladesh for the way they played and wishes them safe travels home. Ends by thanking the crowd for their support.
Mahedi Hasan is the PLAYER OF THE SERIES for taking 8 wickets in the series. Mentions he likes to bowl on such surfaces and his experience from the Global Super League has helped him a lot. Closes by saying that they as a side were upset about losing the ODI series but the hunger in the squad made them do well in the shorter format and they are now looking forward to the Champions Trophy.
Jaker Ali is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his brilliance with the bat. He says that it was a wonderful tour for him. Shares that the wicket was very good as compared to the last two games. Mentions that he knew that if he gave himself time, he could make it up later. Tells that he was angry with himself for being involved in the two run outs but he is happy that he made up by scoring the runs.
Time for the presentation ceremony...
Earlier in the game, Bangladesh made a strong start after opting to bat, but West Indies fought back by tightening things up during the middle overs. Just when it looked like the hosts had gained control, Jaker Ali took charge. A dramatic run-out incident involving Shamim Hossain and Jaker saw the latter storm off the field before the third umpire intervened, correctly adjudging Shamim out. After his return, Jaker was unstoppable, blasting a brilliant 41-ball 72, which helped Bangladesh finish with 189. For West Indies, Roston Chase was the most economical, conceding just 15 runs from his 4 overs while also picking up a wicket. Their death bowling continued to be a concern, as they conceded 75 runs from the final 5 overs.
With 190 never having been chased before in T20Is at Arnos Vale Ground, West Indies were up against history. They were rocked early in the Powerplay, losing three of their top four batters. From that point, the hosts could never recover as Bangladesh kept chipping away at the wickets. Litton Das rotated his bowlers effectively, and the bowlers responded brilliantly. Romario Shepherd was left with too much to do with the tail, and his departure was the final nail in the coffin for the hosts. All 5 bowlers used had at least a wicket to their name but it was Rishad Hossain who stood out with figures of 3 for 21 from his 4 overs.
History created in Kingstown! Bangladesh have whitewashed West Indies for the first time in a bilateral T20I series. After being blanked 3-0 in the ODI series, the Tigers have roared back in style to exact sweet revenge on the hosts. West Indies have been thoroughly outplayed and outclassed by the visitors, and they will end the year on a disappointing note.
