That is it from this game! Pakistan move ahead but West Indies have a chance to level it up as they meet Pakistan on Friday, 10th June for the 2nd ODI at 4.30 pm (11 am GMT). Kindly join us early for the coverage. Till then, goodbye and cheers!
Babar Azam, the skipper of Pakistan says he tries to work on his game and on his strengths. The partnership between him and Rizwan was much needed. The wicket was two-paced and even West Indies bowled really well. Shares that they prepared well for the conditions and he credits the bowlers, especially Shadab Khan who is coming after a long halt and has been excellent on the field. Tells that cricket needs to be played with tactics and high intensity and it is going along the plan for them. Informs they need to take the game deep so that there is less pressure on the finishers.
Babar Azam wins the Player of the Match award but he hands it to Khushdil Shah for his match-winning performance. Shah says the situation was to take the game till the end and give his best. Adds that he is been working hard for a couple of years on his game and the management has helped him a lot to better his game. Shares that he tried to hit the ball which was in his zones.
Nicholas Pooran, the skipper of West Indies say that it is not good to lose this way as they batted well and got a good target above 300. Mentions that Pakistan is world class team and especially their skipper, Babar Azam. Further says that he's really proud of the guys and they played really well. Applauds Shai Hope and says he played really well in tough conditions and all the credit to him.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
Earlier in the day, after electing to bat, Windies, courtesy of Hope's ton got to a really good total. They could have gotten a few more but Pakistan did well to pull things back in the end. That though did not prove to be enough as a combined batting effort from the hosts saw this being chased down.
West Indies bowled well with the new ball! They managed to keep the Pakistan batters quiet. However, the likes of Akeal Hosein and Hayden Walsh were disappointed. They leaked far too many runs in the middle overs. Alzarri Joseph did really well to get his side back in the game but Romario Shepherd was disappointing towards the end.
This though was a very calculated chase from Pakistan! They lost Fakhar Zaman early but Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam steadied things. It was slow going at the start but they eventually caught pace. Just as the game though was turning completely into Pakistan's side, Imam fell. Mohammad Rizwan though kept the good work going along with his skipper. The partnership these two added strengthened the hosts' hold on the game. However, after Azam fell, Rizwan too followed soon and it did seem like it was getting tight. Khushdil Shah though played an outstanding cameo to take his side over the line.
What a knock! What a knock that was from Khushdil Shah! He is playing as the finisher for Pakistan and has indeed justified his selection in the side. The stage was set for him to deliver and he has. Has to be said, he is one of the big reasons why Pakistan have taken a 1-0 lead in this series.
