We've come to the end of this exciting encounter. Both teams leave this game with contrasting fates - Pakistan win their 6th match on the trot in ODIs while Sri Lanka lose their 9th in a row. One on the up, the other on a spiral in the other direction. Some positives from this match for the Lankans, but plenty more to work on. And they must rather quickly. The 3rd ODI takes place at this same venue on 18th October at 1500 local (1100 GMT). Do join us for all the action. Till then, cheers!
On shouting at his players, Sarfraz Ahmed replies that his boys understand him and such was the match situation. Smiles and says that he apologizes later. Admits that the batting flopped and credits Shadab Khan and Babar Azam for their partnership. Showers praise on all his bowlers. He is confident that Azam will come good in Test cricket as well. Feels that batting second ain't easy as the pitch slows down in the second half and hence in spite of all the dew, bowling second was a good call. Further adds that they will see the conditions for the next match and decide whether to bat first or second.
Upul Tharanga says his bowlers bowled really well to keep Pakistan to 219. States had they hung in there they could have done it. Credits the seam bowlers for bowling really well and also applauds Akila Dananjaya and Jeffrey Vandersay for their performances with the ball. Is just disappointed not to win. Mentions Vandersay batted really well to support him, but it was a tough task. On being the only Sri Lankan to carry his bat through in an ODI, with a melancholy in his voice he says it's a good moment for him, but is disappointed to lose the game.
Shadab Khan receives the Man of the Match award for his all-round contribution. He is all smiles and says that he wanted to perform with the bat and help the team. Adds that the plan was to play the full quota of 50 overs. Also praises his bowling partners and says that they were confident of winning. Aims to be the Player of the Series and feels that his captain uses him as per the situation.
With a target then of 220, Sri Lanka suffered a similar fate as the hosts. Reduced to 93/7, with Shadab Khan's 3-fer leading the attack and almost everyone chipping in with wickets, all hope seemed lost. But, captain Upul Tharanga led from the front and took the game deep. He had more than his fair share of luck, was dropped twice, but he still had to make the most of it and he almost did. His partnership of 76 with Jeffrey Vandersay brought some life back into the game, and the skipper completed his hundred as well, but the Islanders eventually fell short when the partnership was broken. Upul Tharanga remained not out throughout the innings, and with that, became the first Sri Lankan to carry his bat through in an ODI. A bittersweet feeling for him, more bitter than sweet surely. He'll feel hard done that he couldn't get his team over the line. Stay tuned for the presentation coming up...
What should have been a one-sided contest, ironically, for both sides at one stage, turned into a real crackerjack of a contest! At the beginning, when Pakistan opted to bat first, they suffered a major collapse courtesy Lahiru Gamage's outstanding 4-wicket haul and it seemed like Sri Lanka would wrap them up rather quickly. But Babar Azam, along with Shadab Khan, shored things up and somehow enabled Pakistan to see the entire 50-over quota out. The former scored a mature, skillful ton while the latter stroked a mature fifty. The 109-run stand gave a fighting platform for Pakistan to battle on.

Hasan Ali To Lahiru Gamage OUT!
OUT! Gamage is run out and it's all over for Sri Lanka. Full toss outside off, Lahiru whacks it square of the wicket on the off side and attempts for the second run. The fielder from the deep fires in a direct hit at the striker's end as Gamage tries to dive back in. The keeper appeals and the square leg umpire goes upstairs. The replays roll in and Gamage is nowhere in the frame. But there is some confusion. Sarfraz seems to have disturbed the stumps with his gloves. The third umpire wants to be 100 percent sure here. He watches multiple replays and then finds that the bails didn't come off when Sarfraz made contact with the stumps. Other than that, it was a pretty straightforward decision. OUT flashes on the giant screen and PAKISTAN WIN BY 32 RUNS!
Direct hit at the striker's end! Could be that Sarfraz knocked the stumps with his gloves before the ball crashed into the stumps. Can't tell in real time. Going to have to wait for the replays.

Rumman Raees To Upul Tharanga
Almost a great catch by Junaid! A clever slower delivery by Raees, Tharanga is early into the pull shot and as a result gets a top edge. It balloons in the air, Khan runs forward from short fine leg and attempts to catch it with a dive. But it falls just short. They cross for a run.

Rumman Raees To Upul Tharanga
Appeal for a catch! Not given by the umpire. A little short in length and angling down the leg side, Tharanga swings and misses. There is some deflection as it goes to the keeper and they appeal. The umpire remains unmoved. Maybe, it went off the thigh pad.

Junaid Khan To Upul Tharanga OUT!
OUT! Lakmal is run out! Back of a length delivery on middle, Tharanga works it in front of square leg and takes a single. Lakmal turns for the second run but is sent back. In the meanwhile, an accurate throw comes in from the deep by Shehzad and Sarfraz does the rest. Lakmal is short of the crease. Sri Lanka lose another wicket. Poor Tharanga, cannot even celebrate his 15th ODI ton. Bittersweet feeling. What a knock from him but he is running out of partners. Only one left and 48 more to win.
