update

That is all from this game. A thrilling start to the series. South Africa will hope to level the series in the next game. Join us on the 6th of this month at 10 am GMT. Do join us earlier for the build up. Till then, cheers!

Pakistan's skipper, Shaheen Afridi says it was a normal game for him, nothing special. Tells that they expected dew to play its part but the conditions totally changed, and credits the batters for handling it well. Mentions Agha and Mohammad Rizwan showed their experience on a tough surface. Ends by appreciating the crowd's support.

Matthew Breetzke, the skipper of South Africa feels they were 20-30 runs short. Tells there are a lot of positives, Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Quinton de Kock batted really nicely at the top. Reckons Pakistan were favourites towards the end but he is proud of his bowlers to take the game deep.

Salman Agha IS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH. He says he would have finished the game but overall great win for them. Tells he was expecting dew to play its part but there was no due and the ball was turning and keeping low. Shares that they lost 2-3 quick wickets and needed a big partnership. Reckons that they took on loose deliveries and respected good bowlers.

...Presentation...

Earlier in the game, South Africa started strongly with a 98-run opening partnership, but lost momentum after the fall of their openers. The team struggled to build significant partnerships, and their innings unraveled. Pakistan's Saim Ayub and Abrar Ahmed were standout bowlers, with Ayub taking crucial wickets and Abrar claiming 3 important scalps.

South Africa's pacers had a strong start, but the team soon shifted gears with their spinners, who exploited the favorable conditions. Donovan Ferreira, Bjorn Fortuin, and George Linde delivered an impressive performance, yet Pakistan's batters proved resilient, forging crucial partnerships that ultimately secured their win.

In the chase, Pakistan's openers sparked a strong start, adding 87 runs together. Although Azam fell cheaply, Rizwan and Agha steadied the ship with a 91-run partnership. However, Pakistan's momentum wavered when they lost a couple of wickets in quick succession, with Agha's dismissal adding a twist to the tale. It got a bit more dramatic as Pakistan continued to lose wickets but with runs needed in single-digits, they crossed the line.

What initially seemed like a comfortable win for the home team turned into a nail-biting finish, making for an electrifying contest. A thrilling victory nonetheless for Pakistan, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. South Africa will be happy to take the game down to the wire. Maybe another 10-20 runs would have helped them change the story of the game.

Corbin Bosch To Naseem Shah

LEG BYE! An extra to seal the 1st ODI for Pakistan as they defeat South Africa by 2 wickets. On a length, drifting down the leg. Naseem misses out on the flick and deflets this off the pads to square leg and takes a leg bye to win the contest. A loud appeal from the African players but the umpire shrugs it away and SA are left with no reviews either.

49.3

Corbin Bosch To Mohammad Nawaz OUT!

OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Surely not? SA stays alive in the contest for another delivery. Back of a length on middle and off, Mohammad Nawaz looks to flick this around mid-wicket but gets a leading edge straight to point and has to walk back.

49.2

Corbin Bosch To Shaheen Afridi

SCORES ARE LEVEL! Full toss on off, Shaheen Afridi cuts this to deep point for one.

49.1

Corbin Bosch To Shaheen Afridi

Low full toss on off, Shaheen Afridi drives this to the left of Tony de Zorzi at deep cover for a couple.

Pakistan now requires 4 off the final over. Corbin Bosch will be bowling the final over of this contest. Matthew Breetzke had the option to bowl Lungi Ngidi as well. Ngidi was bowling excellent slower cutters but MB decides to go with Corbin.

SIX! What a time to land a biggie from Nawaz. Nawaz waited for one to land in his territory and he has nailed this fuller one with a biggie out of the park towards the long off region.

48.5

Donovan Ferreira To Mohammad Nawaz

DF is bowling like a regular spinner. Floated around off, Mohammad Nawaz looks to get out of the jail with a mighty heave but misses out.

48.4

Donovan Ferreira To Mohammad Nawaz

A dot, wow. Fired on off, Mohammad Nawaz cuts this to point for no run.

48.3

Donovan Ferreira To Shaheen Afridi

Darted into the batter. Shaheen Afridi rolls this through mid on for one.

48.2

Donovan Ferreira To Shaheen Afridi

Too full on the pads, Shaheen Afridi nudges this to mid-wicket.

48.1

Donovan Ferreira To Mohammad Nawaz

Pushed through on the pads, Mohammad Nawaz tucks this to mid-wicket for one. Donovan Ferreira does extremely well to field this off his own bowling and keep it down to just one.

Skipper, Shaheen Afridi walks out next.

OUT! CAUGHT! A stunning catch from Donovan Ferreira who covers almost the entire 'V' in front of the stumps, to end Salman Agha back in the hut. Cutter, on off, Salman Agha plays for a pace on and swings early. Gets it chipped high in the dark sky around long off. Donovan Ferreira runs to his left from long on and puts in a slide at the end to grab hold of it. Salman Agha departs after a solid knock of 62 but Pakistan still needs a few to win.

47.5

Lungi Ngidi To Salman Agha

FOUR! This would make the entire crowd breathe a collective sigh of relief. Back of a length around off, Salman Agha steps down and away from the stumps. Lofts this over extra cover for a boundary.

47.4

Lungi Ngidi To Mohammad Nawaz

Good length on the pads, Mohammad Nawaz flicks this through mid-wicket for one.

46.5

George Linde To Hasan Nawaz OUT!

OUT! STUMPED! George Linde sees the shimmy from Nawaz down the track and drags his length back on off. Drifts this in and turns it away from the batter. Hasan Nawaz fails to get close to the pitch of the delivery and is beaten on the outside. Quinton de Kock gathers this behind the stumps and removes the bails in a flash.
