Right then. Pakistan have finally won against a competitive team in ODIs. We now head back to Dubai for the third and final match at 3 pm local (1100 GMT). ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
Victorious Pakistan captain, Sarfraz Ahmed, says that it was a complete team performance in this game. On the string of losses against New Zealand, Ahmed says that he believed that the team could make a comeback and it did. Feels happy that Pakistan have plenty of new-ball bowlers. On Imam, the skipper says that the player is hopefully in good shape. On the batting, Sarfraz praises Fakhar for playing his shots and shutting new Zealand out of the game. On the bowling, Ahmed reckons that the team did extremely well in the middle overs and made good use of the reverse swing. On the final game in Dubai, Sarfraz hopes that Pakistan pull off a series win.
New Zealand skipper, Kane Williamson, admits that the runs were not enough on the board on the surface. Feels the bowlers tried really hard but it was too difficult. Says that there a few things they need to improve in and they need to build on from the win in Dubai. On the wicket, he feels that it was pacey and under lights, it skidded even more. Says that playing the decider is always exciting and both teams have been in this scenario plenty of times in the past and each would be geared up for the same.
SHAHEEN AFRIDI HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. Afridi is feeling great that in two games, his performance has been great. Says that in this match, initially, he felt that he was not able to bowl at all but then came back strongly. Says that he is lucky to be able to take learnings from the seniors.
Zaman and Imam made full use of these advantages and had a good stand upfront, before the latter got hit and was taken off the field. Then, Babar Azam joined Fakhar and the duo added 101 but after that, things slowed down a touch, though Pakistan were always in control. Fakhar was unlucky in missing out on his century but otherwise a pretty decent effort from Pakistan. This is their first win after 12 losses on the trot to the Kiwis. Please stay tuned for the presentation...
In the run chase, a couple of things came to Pakistan's aid. Dew was around and hence, the bowlers could not grip the ball properly. And there was no swing, hence Boult was negated. There was no spin either. And compared to Dubai, this pitch was not slower in nature.
Pakistan did the basics right. Stuck to their lines and lengths and did not allow the Kiwis to cut loose. Then, when reverse swing came into play, they choked the Black Caps further, restricting them to 209. Shaheen Afridi took 4 wickets but the real choke was applied by the spinners who bowled 25 overs between them.
We have a decider. Pakistan were far too good tonight. New Zealand did win the toss but it did not prove to be an advantage for them.
