That is all from this game. Hope you enjoyed the coverage. The action continues in the ICC Under 19 World Cup, 2026, as Australia will take on Japan. Join us on the 20th of January at 7.30 am GMT. You can join us earlier as well for the build up. Cheers.
Farhan Yousaf, the captain of Pakistan, says the boys gave one hundred per cent today. Adds that they have too much pacy bowlers and he is happy to have them in options. About the big partnership, Farhan Yousaf says it is a good sign for the team. Usman Khan is the backbone of the team and wants him to continue.
Thomas Knight, the skipper of Scotland, says coming out on the wrong side is not ideal, but the positives are that they took the game deep. Shares that they were trying to build pressure by keeping Pakistani buildings on the dots. Reckons it was tough to bat, but is happy with the way his lower-middle order showed fight with the bat.
...Presentation...
Usman Khan wins the PLAYER OF THE MATCH AWARD. Khan says they lost a few wickets early on but he planned with Hussain to take singles and doubles and take on the looseners. Mentions that it was not easy to build a big partnership but he wanted to do the job along with Hussain and take his team over the line. Mentions that they have a good batting unit, they need partnerships and need to be a bit more aggressive.
The duo’s approach was a study in complementary styles. Usman Khan initially took his time to settle before unleashing an array of elegant lofts down the ground, while Hussain played the vital role of the anchor. Focusing on strike rotation rather than boundaries, Hussain’s steady presence allowed Usman to flourish. This disciplined approach was evident in the scoring rate, as the pair managed only 28 runs between overs 11 and 20. Scotland’s bowling attack remained disciplined in their lengths, but they lacked the penetration needed to break the stand. While their pacers were consistent, they struggled to attack the stumps as effectively as the spinners, allowing the Pakistani batters to dictate the tempo of the game. Ultimately, the victory was a culmination of the tone set much earlier in the day by Ali Raza’s double-wicket opening over. From that point on, Pakistan never looked back, turning a disciplined bowling effort into a clinical and comprehensive win.
Pakistan delivered a thoroughly professional performance in their pursuit of 188, characterized by composure and calculated aggression. While they avoided unnecessary risks during the early stages, the chase faced a brief hiccup when both openers were dismissed. However, any hopes of a Scottish comeback were swiftly extinguished by Usman Khan and Ahmed Hussain, who anchored the innings with a commanding 111-run partnership for the third wicket.
A relief for the Pakistan side as they are off the mark in the tournament. A dominating performance from them after losing to England a few days back. It wasn't their best performance against the English team but today their bowlers set the tone and the batters did the rest.
