Right then, that's it from us for this match. It wasn't quite a classic but South Africa would take that win all day long. Now the attention shifts to the Test series, where a notable absentee is AB de Villiers. The first Test is in Dunedin which starts from Wednesday, 8th March, 2017, at 1100 local time (2200 GMT, previous night). South African skipper, AB DE VILLIERS says winning a lot of tosses made it a lot easier (South Africa won 5 out of 5 tosses in the series). Says New Zealand played good cricket the whole series. KAGISO RABADA has been named the MAN OF THE MATCH. He says that he just tried to get some rest a day before so that he could be fresh today. Admits that it was tough to play the short ball on this pitch and they utilized it to their advantage. Is looking forward to transform from ODI cricket to Test cricket in the upcoming series.
In spite of the constant pressure, Faf du Plessis held his own and was well supported by David Miller's 45 that came at a strike rate of 128.57 as the pair assured that they regain the numero uno status in ODIs. Coming to the Kiwi bowlers, it was a stupendous effort from them. Everyone contributed here and there. Had the runs been a little more, there could've been a twist. Stay tuned for the presentation.
It still seemed like that it was South Africa's game but the wickets of Jean-Paul Duminy and captain AB de Villiers, who was sent back to the hut because of a ripper from Jimmy Neesham, made the match more interesting than it should've been. Williamson followed McCullum's school of captaincy as he never let go of the aggressive field settings and maintained pressure on the Proteas.
Not quite a Grant Elliott kind of six, but a four from Faf du Plessis sealed the match and the series for the South Africans. A match that they ideally should've won easily, but some smart captaincy and outstanding bowling from the Kiwi bowlers made life difficult for the Proteas. It all started because of de Kock's brain fade as he fell prey to Jeetan Patel, who opened the bowling for the hosts. From there on, a flurry of dot balls from the Black Caps made Hashim Amla play a false shot and depart.
