Goodbye for now! England secures the win and make their way into the semis, but the excitement is far from over! We turn our attention next to the U19 clash between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe this Saturday, January 31st at 7.30 am GMT, so make sure to tune in for the toss and live coverage. Until then, take care, and cheers!
Captain of England Under-19 - Thomas Rew says that they were stuck in the middle order at the time in the first inning, but he feels delighted that his top order did their job. Also shares that they discussed that scoring over 230 would be enough on this pitch and they ended up posting a good total. Further says that the track was inconsistent, the bounces were up and down and therefore so it was a hard pitch for the batter. But in the second inning, they tried to make it as their advantage. Ended up saying that he is very excited about the semi-finals and hopes that they have a good one.
Captain of New Zealand Under-19 - Tom Jones, starts off saying that the conditions were tricky but they could have done better. Adds that the batting of their team was the problem in this campaign. Also says that there is a lot of learning from his tournament and he believes that there are some players in his team who has bright future, so it would be interest to keep a track on their career. Ended up saying that Zimbabwean has been very nice and they enjoyed their time a lot.
Manny Lumsden is the Player of the Match for his five-wicket haul - Manny Lumsden describes that he is feeling great for contributing to a win and taking a five-wicket haul. He credits his success to keeping the stumps in play and maintaining a good line and length, taking advantage of the ball staying low at times. Lumsden says that his role as a change-up bowler comes naturally to him, and he's used to playing this role in his domestic side as well. He attributes the team's success to the collective effort of all the players, highlighting the amazing run they've had so far. Lumsden also praises the team's camaraderie, saying everyone is tight and close, which makes it easier to contribute and put pressure on the opposition when he gets to bowl.
Presentation coming up...
England Under-19 score 234 with the bat - Earlier in the game, New Zealand U19 produced a disciplined bowling effort to restrict England to a par 234/7. Despite a promising opening stand and contributions from Ben Dawkins, Ben Mayes, and Caleb Falconer, the English innings stalled as the Kiwi spin duo of Selwin Sanjay and Jaskaran Sandhu applied pressure in the middle overs, supported by crucial two-wicket hauls from Snehith Reddy and Mason Clarke. The New Zealand attack executed their plans perfectly, ensuring that while England’s batters got starts, none could convert them into the substantial scores.
Lumsden leads the bowling masterclass - England’s bowling unit was clinical from start to finish, marshaled by a sensational performance from Manny Lumsden. Lumsden was the wrecker-in-chief, bagging a magnificent five-wicket haul to rip through the New Zealand batting lineup. He was well-supported by Sebastian Morgan, who claimed two vital scalps, while Farhan Ahmed and Alex Green chipped in with a wicket apiece. It was a dominant display in the field that secured a comprehensive 65-run victory for the young Three Lions.
New Zealand Under-19's lone warrior - Snehith Reddy was the lone warrior for New Zealand, playing a gritty knock of 47 runs to keep the scoreboard ticking. He showed great application, rotating the strike and finding the odd boundary to keep his side in the hunt. However, he lacked support from the other end as wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals. The middle and lower order failed to rise to the occasion, and once Reddy was dismissed, the innings lost its shape completely, eventually folding for a disappointing 169.
England Under-19 are through to the semi-finals! England Under-19 have made their way into the semis. Chasing a target of 235, the New Zealand Under-19s got off to a nightmare start. The England bowlers hit the deck hard and extracted plenty of movement, leaving the Kiwi top order in tatters. By the end of the first Powerplay, the Black Caps were reeling at 48/3, struggling to find any momentum against a disciplined attack. Every time a partnership looked like it might settle, England struck back to break the resistance, ensuring the pressure remained firmly on the chasing side.
