Nicholas Pooran is the Player of the Tournament for scoring 345 runs at a strike rate of 235. He says that it is tough but he just wants to enjoy and play cricket with a smile on his face. Mentions that his game is all about execution, either you fail or you perform. Ends by saying that he enjoys batting at the international level and for his franchise as well.
Nicholas Pooran collects the trophy from the dignitaries and calls his teammates on the stage for the celebrations. The party begins in the Deccan Gladiators camp and they are all smiles posing with the trophy. That brings an end to what has been an oustanding competion and the sixth edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 League has not failed to disppoint. Until the next time, it is goodbye and cheers!
The Best Batter of the Tournament award goes to Tom Kohler-Cadmore for scoring 289 runs at a strike rate of 192. He says that T10 is a hit-and-miss format and you need to keep backing your skills. Adds that he had the freedom to express himself due to the batting depth of his team. Feels that it is important to score at a strike rate of 200 to have an impact and for that, you need to work on improving power hitting.
The Best Bowler of the Tournament award has been given to Akeal Hosein for taking 10 wickets at an economy rate of 6.2. He says that he is happy with his performance and it is unfortunate that they could not get over the line. Explains that in this format, there is a lot of pressure on the bowlers and even more in the first two overs. Mentions that there is some planning but he is just trying to make sure that he is not hit out of the park.
The UAE Player of the Tournament award has been given to Usman Khan from the Northern Warriors for scoring 200 runs in 7 games at a strike rate of 202. His award has been collected by his franchise owner.
Time for the presentations...
Josh Little will have a word now. He says that it has been a very enjoyable tournament. Adds that he is enjoying his cricket. Ends by saying that they will have some celebrations as most players have to head home.
Nicholas Pooran is up for a chat next. He says that it is all about execution at the end of the day. Adds that it is important to be tactically smart. Feels that the character they showed in Qualifier 1 brought them into the final.
Andre Russell is in for a flash interview. He says that last night was hectic playing back-to-back games. Adds that it was all about repeating it in the final. Also says that they knew it was a fighting total. Credits Mushtaq Ahmed for his influence on the team.
A bunch of interviews coming up...
Earlier Deccan Gladiators were able to put on a massive total on the board courtesy of David Wiese and Nicholas Pooran who took this well beyond the 120-run mark. Akeal Hosein got New York Strikers off to to a good start with 2 early wickets but they could not build on it. New York Strikers still had a good chance to chase this down with the batting they have but fell well short of the target.
New York Strikers were in trouble straight away as they lost Muhammad Waseem on a golden duck to Josh Little in the first over. Mohammad Hasnain bowled an even better second over as he claimed the wickets of Paul Stirling and Eoin Morgan. Azam Khan came out and played a cameo, testing his luck regularly before finally being dismissed by Zahir Khan. Kieron Pollard and Jordan Thompson put together a decent partnership but things got worse for them as their skipper had to depart injured. By then they were far behind in the game and they were unable to overcome the target. Josh Little was the pick of the bowlers taking 2 wickets for 4 runs in his 2 overs. In the end a complete performance from the deserving champions.
The Deccan Gladiators continue their recent domination and claim their second consecutive trophy! This has been a clinical performance from the reigning champions, who have won three back-to-back knockout games to turn their season right around. New York Strikers will be happy with their performance in their debut season and their inexperience came to the forefront at the final hurdle. They will only get stronger from here and hope to get across the finish line next time.
