Right then. Rizwan collects the trophy and lifts it with his teammates. Multan Sultans have done it and they register their first-ever PSL title! This will be a day that some of these players never forget. Well, that is all we have from this edition of the PSL. We have enjoyed bringing the coverage of PSL 6 to you, and we hope that you have enjoyed it too. We hope to catch you soon. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Mohammad Rizwan, the captain of Multan Sultans, says that he credits the whole team and the owners too, as they gelled well and played well and he feels that they deserve the title. Says that the final game is a pressure game and they went into the game with a plan and they looked to stay calm. Praises Shan Masood for his batting as he bounced back well and he helped the team win. Adds that their bowlers did well too.
Wahab Riaz, the captain of Peshawar Zalmi, says that playing in a final is a big deal and he credits his teammates and they did not play good cricket today. Feels that they made some mistakes, as they conceded a lot of runs in the last overs. Opines that they have played some good cricket throughout the tournament and it is a good thing that they have played in 4 finals. Says that they have good bowlers in their ranks.
SOHAIB MAQSOOD IS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH. He says that he was confident with his domestic work and Multan Sultans, this year gave him responsibilities and he took them. Adds that he took a gap from red-ball cricket to focus on white-ball cricket. Further says that form plays a big role in winning. Adds that he'll play the same way if he gets the chance to play internationally.
Time for some awards! Shahanawaz Dahani has been awarded the Emerging Player of the Tournament award and also the Best bowler award. The Spirit of Cricket award goes to Peshawar Zalmi. Mohammad Rizwan wins the Best Keeper of the Tournament Award. Sohaib Maqsood grabs the Best Batter of the Tournament Award and also the Player of the Series!
... Stay tuned for the Presentation ...
Now, we have a group of players standing in front of the camera. Let's get their thoughts one by one. Shan Masood says that the whole team has been very supportive and the owners have always backed them. Sohail Tanvir is alongside him and he thinks that the bowlers did well and everyone chipped in really well. Imran Tahir says that this win is for his team and also his wife and his son, as he is seeing them after a long time. Says that it is a great achievement and this win is for the fans as well. Usman Qadir says that he has learned a lot from Imran Tahir and he looks to learn from the best. Feels that the team was gelling well and this is a team effort. Blessing Muzarabani says that he is really happy and is in shock right now. Says that he has learned a lot and it was a good challenge and is happy that they have won. Tells that he has had support from the team. Shahnawaz Dhani says that this was his first year in PSL and he is very thankful to Multan Sultans for believing in him!
Rilee Rossouw says that he is very happy and he is glad that he put in that performance. Says that they are a closed unit and they also had some luck on their side in this game and credits the boys for the win. On the bowling, he feels that it has been wonderful.
Try to keep up as we have a lot of interviews lined up! First, we start off with Imran Khan! He says that he is very happy because he won the PSL for the first time. He says that it has all worked out after coming here and he worked on his variations in the nets too. Feels that they wanted to play some good cricket and they did that well.
Earlier in the day, Zalmi won the toss and put the Sultans up to bat, a decision that probably went against them. The duo of Maqsood and Rossouw went hard from the mid-way stage and kept piling on the runs, which helped them post a humongous total. The bowling by Zalmi was poor for the most part of the innings and in the end, Multan did well in all aspects of the game to clinch their maiden PSL title!
The Multan Sultans will be kicking themselves as they almost gave it all away, but did well towards the end, to ensure that they end up on the winning side. They kept things tight in the first 10 overs and never let Peshawar dictate things. All their bowlers were not letting Zalmi have a sniff, but when Imran Khan gave a lifeline to Malik, it was then that things changed. They were on the back foot and Peshawar were on an all-out attack. Once Malik fell, the onus was on Rutherford, but the 17th over for Sultans, from Tahir, sealed the deal, as he snared 3 wickets and ensured that the title was going the way of Multan!
Peshawar did not start off in the best manner, as they found it hard to get that first punch. Akmal found the fence a couple of times, early on, whereas Zazai was starved off the strike. Zazai could not get going as he lost his wicket early and Akmal and then, Wells followed him soon after. Malik and Powell were struggling but there was a turning point, as when Malik was dismissed by Imran Khan on a no ball, the game turned on its head. Malik and Powell then went bonkers as they raised a 50-run stand in no time and kept finding the ropes. Sadly for them, Malik fell, but Rutherford decided to swing and ended up giving his wicket shortly after and the run chase fizzled out after that.
Multan Sultans have done it! They have won their very first PSL title and this has been a great performance from them, as they beat Peshawar Zalmi by 47 runs! There was a moment in the middle overs that Peshawar could snatch the game and title from their grasp, but they did well to hold on and register a win in the final of the 2021 PSL final! Take a bow, Multan Sultans! Take a bow, Rizwan!
