And that wraps up the first game of the day, where West Indies defeated the home side, Malaysia, to secure their spot in the Super Six, finishing third in the Group A standings. Coming up next, it’s the much-anticipated clash between two undefeated teams in this group as India Women Under-19 take on Sri Lanka Women Under-19 for the top spot. The action will continue right here at the Bayuemas Oval, with our buildup to that game already underway. The toss is just moments away, so switch tabs and gear up for what promises to be another exciting contest. Until then, it’s cheers and goodbye!
The captain of West Indies, Samara Ramnath starts by appreciating Malaysia for the way they played. Tells that they had a slow start but Claxton and Asabi helped them gain momentum. Mentions that Claxton is one for the future. Tells that they were a bit nervous at the halfway mark but it was about executing their plans which they did.
Nur Dania Syuhada, the skipper of Malaysia says she is very proud to be part of the World Cup and play against the top 15 countries. Adds that they were excited to play in front of their home crowd. Appreciates the way the team played and says cricket is a funny game and it's hard to decide the winner until the last ball is bowled.
The captain of West Indies, Samara Ramnath is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH. She says that this win will give them great confidence going into the Super Six stage. Feels that it was important to bowl slow on this wicket to get the purchase. Thanks her team members for their support. Ends by saying that her parents are here and that she would not want have been here without their support.
It's time for the Presentation Ceremony...
Earlier in the game, the Malaysian bowlers started brilliantly, keeping things tight and denying the West Indies any rhythm by squeezing the flow of runs. This pressure resulted in regular wickets. However, they lost their precision during the middle phase, allowing West Indies to find crucial boundaries and conceding too many extras, which eased the grip Malaysia had established. The bowlers bounced back strongly in the death overs, restricting West Indies to 112/7. Asabi Callender, Jahzara Claxton and Abigail Bryce played vital knocks for the West Indies, while Nazwah and Nur Izzatul Syafiqa stood out for Malaysia with the ball.
Samara Ramnath led from the front, finishing with impressive figures of 4 wickets and steering her side into the Super Six stage with a commanding victory. While Malaysia fell short, their spirited effort and fight in this contest will be a source of pride and a foundation to build on going ahead.
However, the game turned on its head when West Indies skipper, Samara Ramnath, came into the attack. She delivered a game-changing over, striking twice to trigger a dramatic collapse. From a promising 38/2, Malaysia crumbled to 59/10 in a matter of overs. Skipper Nur Dania Syuhada was the top scorer with 12 runs, but the rest of the batting unit faltered under pressure.
Malaysia Women Under-19 have plenty to be proud of despite the loss, as they showcased immense character and determination throughout this game. Their shuffled top order displayed intent and resilience, managing to unsettle the West Indies with a strong start. At the halfway mark, Malaysia were well positioned at 38/2, needing just 75 more runs to secure a famous victory.
WEST INDIES ADVANCE TO THE NEXT ROUND! What a remarkable turnaround it was after the 10-over mark! The spinners worked their magic, dismantling the Malaysian batting lineup and bundling them out for just 59 runs, winning this game by 53 runs. A commendable performance from the bowlers to secure their spot in the next round!
