Earlier in the game, the Malaysian bowlers started brilliantly, keeping things tight and denying the West Indies any rhythm by squeezing the flow of runs. This pressure resulted in regular wickets. However, they lost their precision during the middle phase, allowing West Indies to find crucial boundaries and conceding too many extras, which eased the grip Malaysia had established. The bowlers bounced back strongly in the death overs, restricting West Indies to 112/7. Asabi Callender, Jahzara Claxton and Abigail Bryce played vital knocks for the West Indies, while Nazwah and Nur Izzatul Syafiqa stood out for Malaysia with the ball.
Samara Ramnath led from the front, finishing with impressive figures of 4 wickets and steering her side into the Super Six stage with a commanding victory. While Malaysia fell short, their spirited effort and fight in this contest will be a source of pride and a foundation to build on going ahead.
However, the game turned on its head when West Indies skipper, Samara Ramnath, came into the attack. She delivered a game-changing over, striking twice to trigger a dramatic collapse. Malaysia Women Under-19 have plenty to be proud of despite the loss, as they showcased immense character and determination throughout this game. At the halfway mark, Malaysia were well positioned at 38/2, needing just 75 more runs to secure a famous victory.
