Right then. That's it from the coverage of this game. The Lankan Premier League action continues on Wednesday, 8th December, 2021. It is a double header in the Island nation. The first game will see a clash between Colombo Stars and Dambulla Giants at 1500 local (0930 GMT). Followed by a contest between Kandy Warriors and Jaffna Kings at 1930 local (1400 GMT). Till then, take care and goodbye!
Bhanuka Rajapaksa, the victorious skipper of Galle Gladiators, says that it was not an easy wicket to bat on and they showed their batting depth in the end. Tells that Kandy got off to a great start but their spinners did a good job. Says that they have a couple of great spinners and also credits his pace bowlers by saying that the wickets aren't suited for them but they did a good job.
Angelo Perera, the skipper of Kandy Warriors is in for a chat. He says, the wicket was turning and they decided to take a chance rather than to go with the pacer. Mentions, missed opportunities in the field took the game away from them. Adds, the team continued to fight till the end which was a positive sign.
Dhananjaya Lakshan wins the Player of the Match award for his allround contribution. He says that he tried to play well for the team and he is happy. Tells that he was looking for singles but he luckily he got boundaries.
Stay tuned for presentation.
Heartbreak for Warriors after giving it their all! It will be the skipper who will be the most disappointed of the lot. Kandy Warriors stumbled at the start. They were taken for a ride by the opening pair, especially the pacers. But once the spinners were introduced, they managed to put a lid on the run rate. After the first breakthrough, they opened the floodgates and Galle Gladiators kept losing wickets in cluster. Sachindu Colombage was the pick of the bowlers, as he picked up 3 wickets. While, Charith Asalanka. Kamindu Mendis and Rovman Powell took a wicket each. The game went down till the final over and the skipper, Angelo Perera decided to take the pressure on his shoulders to defend 7 runs in 6 balls. Which did not go as per planned and Warriors still find themselves in the hunt for their first win of the campaign.
A top-class show with the bat by Galle Gladiators. Unlike the first two games, their opening pair finally came to the party and smacked runs all across the park to get a hold of the advantage. The pair of Danushka Gunathilaka and Kusal Mendis motored along really well. They were on the attack against the pace bowlers and took them to the cleaners, Danushka Gunathilaka was the aggressor throughout. But once the spinners came into the attack, the batters found it difficult to negotiate. It was in the 8th over when Mendis fell which opened the floodgates. Since then, Gladiators kept losing wickets in cluster. This time it was the middle order who failed to capitalise on the built foundation. The skipper smacked 22 runs to get them closer to the finish line, but he could not do the task himself. It was a stand between Lahiru Madushanka and Dhananjaya Lakshan which took the side over the line.
WHAT A GAME DID WE WITNESS! Kandy Warriors had all the advantage, they fought back really hard and made a good comeback in the game, but a decision to go against the pace bowler in the final over proved to a costly choice by the skipper himself. Galle Gladiators batters held their nerves and managed to get over the line in the end, thanks to Lahiru Madushanka.
