Well then, that is a wrap from this clash! India completed both their Super Six and group stage campaigns in dominant fashion, remaining undefeated with a series of convincing victories under their belt. They now prepare for the all-important knockout stage where the challenge will be elevated against stronger oppositions. While Scotland's World Cup campaign has come to an end with limited match opportunities, they'll depart with invaluable experiences and lessons learned. Participating in cricket's biggest tournament is a significant achievement in itself, one that will contribute to their growth as a cricketing nation. With this, another day draws to a close in this tournament. It began with a washout between USA Women and South Africa Women, and then was followed by Bangladesh Women defeating West Indies Women comprehensively. Now then, as the tournament progresses toward the semifinals, there are still a couple of Super Six matches remaining to be played. Match 11 features Nigeria Women going up against Ireland Women in Bangi. That match will begin on Wednesday, 29th January, at 2.30 am GMT while the day's second game, Match 12 pits two powerhouse sides, Australia and Sri Lanka at the same venue, with the first ball scheduled to be bowled at 6.30 am GMT. Till then, cheers!
The captain of India Women Under-19, Niki Prasad talks about Trisha’s innings being a very special for the team. She further says that the first wicket partnership that happened for them will bring a lot of confidence in them going ahead to the semifinals. She says that they have been doing well as a team and are prepared for any challenges that come up to them in the coming days.
The captain of Scotland Women Under-19, Niamh Muir is up for a chat now. She says they learnt a lot from playing against a strong opposition. Accepts that they were not accurate with the ball. Says they missed their lines and lengths and were punished. About the positives from the tournament, she mentions that their win against Nepal was a big moment for them as a group, and also adds that they aimed to get into the Super Six stage this time. Ends up thanking all the supporters in the family and others.
... THE PRESENTATIONS ...
Trisha Gongadi is the well-deseved PLAYER OF THE MATCH for her glittering century - 110 off just 59 balls, which included 13 boundaries and 4 sixes. She expresses that she has no words to say about the performance and she says thanks to her support staff. She says that her plan is usually to take a few over time and then start playing according to the situation. She says that the inside-out is her favorite shot of the book. She ends by saying that she is a bit disappointed in not getting the hat trick but she is still very happy for the 3 wickets.
Earlier in the game, India started off well after being invited to bat. Kamalini and Trisha both hit the top gear from the first over and didn't take time to settle in. The Scottish pacers didn't get their lines correct and hence, the Indians motored away swiftly, scoring 67 runs in the first six overs. They continued to err in lengths and looked a bit too predictable as well. Powerplay was ticked, now it was all about consolidation in the middle overs. Trisha got better and better as she progressed with her innings and went on to notch up a sensational century, making her the first-ever woman cricketer to do so in this competition. She received valuable support from Kamalini G who scored a fifty of her own and Sanika Chalke too, contributed well in the backend. On back of such batting performances, India mounted a mammoth 209 on the board.
The introduction of spin bowling proved to be Scotland's undoing. Vaishnavi Sharma, continuing her excellent bowling form, struck twice in her opening two overs. She also became the leading wicket-taker of the tournament. The real damage came from Aayushi Shukla, who delivered a devastating over claiming three wickets and dismantling Scotland's middle order. This collapse left Scotland reeling at 42/7 at the midway point. Trisha Gongadi, who had already impressed with a masterful century with the bat, added to her outstanding performance by claiming three wickets with the ball and helped India to bundle Scotland on a paltry 58.
Scotland began their chase of the massive target with attacking intent, as Kelly and Walsingham found the boundary rope early. They particularly targeted Shabnam, scoring 14 runs in a productive second over. While the openers tried to maintain an aggressive approach, their momentum was halted by Aayushi Shukla.
A COMPLETE SPIN DOMINANCE FROM INDIA! All ten wickets were shared by the spinners as they badly dented the Scottish batting unit. A comprehensive 150-run win, and will massively boost their confidence as they now look ahead to the semifinals. While they missed out on Super Six qualification in their previous attempt, reaching this stage this time around marks a step forward in Scottish cricket. This experience at a higher level of competition will serve as a valuable stepping stone in their continued growth as a team and a cricketing nation.
