Right then, that is it from this rather one-sided affair where Australia Women take the early lead in the series. They will now want to seal it in the next one while India Women will look to force a decider. The second ODI is scheduled on 17th September, Wednesday, here at the same ground. It will begin at 1.30 pm IST (8 am GMT), but as you know, you can always join us early for all the build-up to the match. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
Phoebe Litchfield is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for her fantastic knock. She says that it was good to be out there. Admits she had a bit of luck but it was good to bat alongside the skipper. Mentions that she has played hockey right-handed which helps her play the reverse sweeps but still needs a lot of practice. Tells that she likes playing in these conditions and wants to keep it going. Says thet the bowlers did well to restrict India to 280, and they chased it down nicely as well.
Alyssa Healy, the victorious skipper of Australia Women, says it's a nice way to start the tour, they did well to bowl under tough conditions and she is happy with how her players played. Tells her bowlers were smart despite not taking wickets in the Powerplay. Reckons they want to push the limits, they want to play with intent, set big totals while batting first and chase big scores. On the injury of Perry, Healy jockingly says she is old now but fine.
Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of India Women, says that they were 20-30 runs short, and even though the bowlers created chances, they couldn't grab it. Mentions that Australia were better than them but she is now looking forward to the next game. Says that a few more runs would have put the Aussies under pressure here. Tells that the spinners did well in the England series, but they need to improve on the field.
Presentation Time...
Annabel Sutherland is up for a quick chat. She says it was a pretty good wicket, it was nicely coming on and they just tried to put India under pressure, ran hard between the wickets and it was pleasing in the end. Reckons assessing the conditions was important, they didn't overplay, and a good start by Phoebe Litchfield was important.
India’s bowling effort left much to be desired, but it was their sloppy fielding that really hurt them, with several dropped chances proving costly. They’ll need to sharpen up quickly if they want to make a deep run in the World Cup. Sneh Rana and Kranti Gaud were the only ones to pick up wickets, but that was never going to be enough.
Earlier in the game, India Women put up a competitive total, built on half-centuries from their top three and useful contributions from the middle order, though they couldn’t quite finish with a late flourish. Megan Schutt, playing her 100th WODI, led the attack for Australia with a couple of key wickets, while the rest of the bowlers offered solid support.
Australia Women made a steady start despite losing Alyssa Healy early in the Powerplay, with none of their batters showing any signs of pressure. Phoebe Litchfield anchored the chase brilliantly with a superb 88, while Beth Mooney played a classy half-century to provide strong support. Ellyse Perry, who had to retire hurt, still made a valuable contribution, and Annabel Sutherland joined Mooney to seal the game emphatically, staying unbeaten on 54 and adding over 100 runs with her partner. The Aussies showcased their quality and adaptability, and this convincing win serves as a perfect boost ahead of the big tournament, having adjusted to the conditions impressively.
A dominant win for the Aussies! They made the chase look effortless and sent a strong message to the other teams who will be part of the World Cup. Australia take a 1-0 lead in the series, while India will have plenty to reflect on.
