So that again was a good game of cricket! Once again we saw, you don't need to have flat pitches to have exciting games, keep something for the bowlers and you have a contest! Anyway, the deciding ODI between these two sides will be played in Vizag, on 29th October. Action begins at 1330 IST, so do join us for it! Until then, goodbye and take care!
MAN OF THE MATCH, MARTIN GUPTILL, says that it is a wonderful feeling to perform in a winning cause. Feels that everyone's ability in the Kiwi team to fight till the end is admirable and they all felt that 260 was defendable. On Virat Kohli, he admits that he is a classy player and his wicket really boosted their confidence. But he stresses that the team strived to get the other wickets as well. On being asked whether he thought his score would end up being the highest in the match, he laughs and shakes his head but also says he will take it.
New Zealand captain, KANE WILLIAMSON begins by stating that it was an improved effort. Admits that it was not an easy surface and scoring 260 was not a bad effort. On the toss, he adds that dew may or may not come and also the pitch slowing down was a bit confusing but is happy that it worked in their favour. Credits his team for executing their plans well but adds that there is room for improvement. Mentions that they have played on a variety of pitches and all of that factors in during selections. Ends by saying that they will look to adapt to the conditions in Vizag and the guys are looking forward to the decider.
Indian skipper, MAHENDRA SINGH DHONI admits that the first 10 overs were the crucial point where India conceded a lot of runs. Also feels that they gave a bit too many extras. But is happy with the fight shown by the Indian lower order while batting. He opines that the wicket was best to bat on in the afternoon but got slower and slower as the day progressed. Further, he adds that run scoring was best against the new balls as it was difficult to bat once the balls got older. Feels that the batsmen in the batting order 5-7 are still inexperienced and will get the game awareness once they play a few more matches. Does not want them to curb their attacking instincts and feels that with experience, they will learn and serve India for a long period of time. On the dew, he feels that it has not had a great impact so far in this series and would like to see what takes place at Vizag. Ends by saying that such losses and the ones in Delhi keep on happening and the Kiwis are a very good side. Also says that India need to be at their best to win the final ODI.
Earlier in the day, New Zealand once again huffed and puffed up past the 250-run mark after getting a good start. Guptill was the star for them scoring 72 but once he was dismissed, the Kiwis struggled to get going. The spinners in Jadhav, Patel and Mishra bowled well between them to keep New Zealand to 260 but in the end, it proved to be enough.
Hardik Pandya again fell to a glory shot and despite some late rearguard action from Umesh Yadav and Dhawal Kulkarni, they could not stop the visitors from registering their second win on the tour. Tim Southee finished with best figures for New Zealand in the game, he took 3/40. He along with Trent Boult and Jimmy Neesham took 7 wickets in all which is opposite to what worked for India earlier in the day. The Indian pacers only managed to take three wickets between them.
India did lose Rohit early but Rahane held one end up. Kohli again looked good but was snapped up by Ish Sodhi. Plenty of dots followed and the pressure got the better of the Indian batsmen. Rahane failed to convert his start and Dhoni failed to get going and the young batsmen in Pandey, Kedar departed in quick succession to hand the advantage to New Zealand.
Phew! Another thriller! The series is alive and kicking! New Zealand have again defended a slightly below par score to perfection. The ODI series has gone down the wire and that is a welcome change from the Tests! On a pitch that was difficult one to score quickly, the Kiwis were brilliant with the ball and have managed to stay alive in the series with a win here at Ranchi.

Trent Boult To Umesh Yadav OUT!
OUT! NEW ZEALAND WIN BY 19 RUNS AND LEVEL THE SERIES 2-2! Boult gets the final wicket. A length ball outside off, Umesh looks to give this the big swing. But because the pitch is a bit slow, the ball does not come on to the bat that easily. He miscues it to short extra cover where Ross Taylor takes a simple catch. So we will have a series finale in Vizag.
