That's it from us then! Hope you enjoyed the coverage. The visitors would look to come back harder in the 4th ODI to stay alive in the series. Will India seal it there itself? Do join us to find out on 26th October in Ranchi for that game at 1330 IST to catch the action. Until then, goodbye and take care. Cheers!
Man of the Match, VIRAT KOHLI says good luck went his way as well. Feels sorry for Ross Taylor as he understands how he feels because he had dropped Brendon McCullum and he went on to score a triple century. Says they had the opportunity to go out and chase and with Dhoni coming up the order, it really helped to seal the game. Adds that even when Pandey came in it helped him play his game because he is such a good player. Mentions that the quality of the side is great and that's really important. States those two partnerships with Dhoni and Pandey were crucial, as firstly he fed off Dhoni and then in the second Pandey fed off him. Says if he can time the ball well enough instead of going for the big ones, and keep taking the ones and twos, he can do better because those are his strengths. Stresses that it's important to keep the game simple if the bowlers are doing well, which is important. Further says that he knows that teams want to get him out early as he comes in at No.3, so he wants to spend more time in the middle and then take off when he's set.
India captain, MS Dhoni says they could have done better in the last game and adds what's important is how you come back. Feels they thought it's a high scoring ground but to restrict them to 280 was quite good. Adds Kedar Jadhav is a surprise package for them. Feels the bowling department has done its job but still there is some improvement. Says he has no clue how Jadhav gets those wickets but it's important to take those wickets and that helps for his side. Adds he batted lower down a lot of times and the decision was to bat up and let others do the job of finishing and at this stage he has lost that touch a bit. Feels it's important to play the big shots and let the opposition spread the field a bit. He thinks if you get 15-20 runs in between you can go back to your groove playing freely. Says right from the start Virat Kohli always wanted to improve and make India win. Adds he's someone who learns a lot and executes the plans very well. He thinks he has not just made the fans happy but his family as well.
New Zealand captain, Kane Williamson feels it's frustrating to lose wickets in clumps. Credits Neesham and Henry for scoring those crucial runs in the end. Feels they were good at 160 for three but to lose those wickets and scoring 280 was pleasing. Says Dhoni and Kohli's partnership took the game away from them. Mentions the boys tried hard and adds the catch being dropped of Kohli is a part of the game.
It's not like New Zealand were bad today with the ball. But sometimes it just so happens that you're outclassed and there's nothing you can do about it. Today was one of those days. They got off to a good start, but it all boils down to that one moment - where Ross Taylor dropped Virat Kohli on 6. Had that been taken, the outcome could have been very different. Earlier in the first innings they collapsed after a good start but a good finish in the end took them to 285 which eventually didn't prove enough.
Manish Pandey then walked in and joined Kohli as the both of them kept the scoreboard ticking. Virat just upped the game when the innings was nearing its end and went berserk. He was supported well by Pandey as the pair made an unbeaten 97-run stand. Virat Kohli made sure he was there till the very end and remained unbeaten on 154. It was a truly special knock to witness.
With 286 to chase, the Men in Blue lost their openers rather early. But Virat Kohli was joined by MS Dhoni, who promoted himself up the order, and the duo took things firmly in their control. They went on to thread a massive partnership of 151 runs, with the skipper notching up an explosive fifty before he departed.
What a tremendous run chase! My word, I do not have enough words to describe this man. Virat Kohli, take a bow! What a player. The more pressure he's put in, the more he thrives. He's picked the bones out of this chase and not left anybody with any chance. He was dropped on 6 and how he's made them pay for it. Since that moment, he's always looked in control and finished things off, ensuring his team now lead the 5-match series 2-1.
