That concludes this enthralling Test match! With India clinching the series with one match to spare, they'll aim to extend their dominance with a 4-1 victory, while England will be eager to salvage a win in the final Test. Join us for the fifth and final Test starting on 7th March, Thursday at 9:30 am IST (4 am GMT), and don't forget you can catch all the pre-match excitement by tuning in early. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
Dhruv Jurel is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his amazing batting performance and contributions with the gloves as well. He talks about playing the situation well and building a partnership with Shubman Gill in the second innings. He further adds that the credit should also go to the lower-order batters to stick with him in the first innings and get so close to the score of England which gave them a good chance to turn the course of the match. When asked about James Anderson, he says that it's a huge thing to bat against him and he was more focused on the ball than the bowler.
Rohit Sharma, the victorious skipper of India says that it has been a very hard-fought series and it is good to be on the right side. Adds that there were a lot of challenges but they overcame them effectively. Tells that the youngsters have shown great determination, and that shows that they want to be here and take up the international challenge after grinding it out in the domestic circuit. Says that as a captain he always tries to keep an encouraging environment, and the players have responded well to that. Further adds that it is always difficult when you miss key players but the youngsters stepped up well for them and this will give them motivation. Ends by saying that they go to every Test with a view to win it and they will do that in the final Test as well.
Ben Stokes, the captain of England says that it was a great Test match and says that the scoreboard doesn’t give enough credit to the way they played but they have done well to bat first and then pick up and push India back like that. He further adds that he always allows people to come out and express themselves. The young bowlers did really well and there is a lot of work put up with them behind the scenes that is converted into the performances. He talks about the batting being better, especially in the second innings but gives credit to the Indian spinners for bowling so well. End by saying that Joe Root played an incredible knock for them and it is a good sign for the side with the Ashes coming up.
Presentation Time...
Shubman Gill, one of the architects for India's win is up for a chat. He talks about the openers giving a good start which helped them to get over the line. He further adds that this is his first innings in which he has scored a fifty without hitting a four. Tells that the bowlers were bowling really well and were not giving away anything. He mentions that Dhruv Jurel came in and batted really well and rotated the strike well which took so much pressure off the dressing room and off him as well. In the end, he says that the team and the players are really happy with the win.
Day 4 commenced with India firmly in control, as their openers, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, orchestrated a solid start, accumulating runs and constructing a formidable partnership. Sharma's impressive fifty laid the foundation for India's pursuit of victory, as the duo combined for a promising 84-run opening stand. However, England's Joe Root intervened, claiming the crucial wicket of Jaiswal to spark a shift in momentum. Tom Hartley's dismissal of Sharma further bolstered England's resurgence, but Shoaib Bashir's double breakthrough after Lunch injected fresh uncertainty into the contest. Despite England's spirited fightback, India's young duo, Shubman Gill and Dhruv Jurel, displayed remarkable composure and resilience, thwarting the visitors' aggressive tactics. Gill notched up an excellent half-century with only two maximums and no boundaries which shows how patient he had to be while Jurel also stayed unbeaten till the end. Their patient partnership of 72 runs guided India across the finish line, securing a memorable victory for the Men in Blue.
Day 3 of the Test match witnessed India's remarkable turnaround, setting the stage for a thrilling conclusion. Dhruv Jurel's resilient innings and a stellar bowling display, headlined by Ravichandran Ashwin's five-wicket haul and Kuldeep Yadav's four-wicket contribution, propelled India into a commanding position. Despite facing early setbacks, India showcased determination and resilience, narrowing England's lead to a mere 46 runs. England, in their second innings, encountered fierce resistance from India's bowlers, with Ashwin's fiery spell dismantling their top order. However, Zak Crawley's counter-attacking fifty provided some stability before India struck back with crucial wickets. As England set a target of 192 runs, India's openers, led by Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, launched a brisk start, placing them in a favorable position to secure victory on the Final Day.
As Day 2 of the Test match concluded, England emerged as the dominant force, buoyed by commendable performances from Joe Root and Ollie Robinson. Root's masterful century anchored England's innings, while Robinson's spirited batting bolstered the team's total, marking his maiden Test fifty. However, India found solace in the resilient partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal, who notched up another gritty half-century, and Sarfaraz Khan, offering a glimmer of hope for the hosts. Despite facing setbacks, the duo showcased determination and resolve, setting the stage for an enthralling Day 3. Meanwhile, Shoaib Bashir's stellar bowling effort yielded his best figures in first-class cricket, further solidifying England's position. Conversely, Kuldeep Yadav and Dhruv Jurel's tenacity ensured no further wickets fell before Stumps, hinting at a potential resurgence in India's innings.
On Day 1 of the Test match, England seized control with a dominant performance led by Joe Root's remarkable century, his 31st in Tests and 10th against India, marking the highest by any player against the hosts. Despite early setbacks, Root's resilience alongside Ben Foakes anchored England's innings, forming a crucial partnership of 86 runs. However, India's debutant, Akash Deep, showcased his talent with the ball, claiming two quick wickets and maintaining pressure on the English batters. While England's fightback after a precarious position of 112-5 showcased their determination, India needed to regroup and refine their strategies ahead of Day 2 to capitalize on early breakthroughs and restrict England's imposing total.
What a thrilling victory for India! This match was a rollercoaster ride, with momentum swinging back and forth, but the hosts showed greater resilience, clinching a decisive 3-1 series lead. England will rue missed opportunities, sealing their fate in this match and the series. The partnership between Shubman Gill and Dhruv Jurel proved pivotal in India's win, extending their remarkable streak to 17 consecutive Test series wins at home. England's defeat marks their first series loss under Ben Stokes' captaincy and Brendon McCullum's coaching tenure.
