Right then, that's all we have from this game. We look forward to your company on 25th March for the fourth Test match in Dharamsala. Do join us at 0930 local (0400 GMT) for all the action. Cheers!!
Man of the Match, Cheteshwar Pujara says his innings was much needed for the team. Feels that there was a position where they lost six wickets (on day 3) and he talked to Saha about having a partnership. Admits he was aware that he needed to bat long. When asked about his patience, he states that he also gets tempted to play big shots but he looks at the bigger picture. Opines that India couldn't effort to lose a wicket at that time and so he looked to rotate the strike. Adds that this is how he avoids to go over the top or play the sweep shot. Says that he doesn't need any motivation while playing for India. States that they are the number one team and look to play like that. Further adds that to put the opposition under pressure at lunch with four wickets down they thought they had the game but also adds that Shaun Marsh and Peter Handscomb batted really well. On fitness and fatigue, he replies that batting long affects his fitness but he has been working hard and concentrating on diet. Ends by saying that he hopes to recover for the Dharamsala Test in time.
Virat Kohli says that they were in a good position after losing the toss. Also says KL Rahul and Murali Vijay were outstanding and Pujara's knock was unbelievable. Praises the partnership between Saha and Pujara which allowed them to get into the lead. Adds that after getting two wickets yesterday they really thought they had a chance. Credits Peter Handscomb and Shaun Marsh for their brilliant batting. Also praises his boys for showing great mental strength. On Pujara's knock, Kohli replies that he is someone who takes a lot of pride in his performance, knows his game really well and is a hardworking batsman. Adds that to him it was his best knock. On Wriddhiman Saha's innings, Kohli says that he did it in West Indies and against New Zealand in Kolkata and once again really stood up and did the job. Opines that the wicket was not offering much and the old ball was not gripping. When asked about Jadeja's effort in the match, Kohli replies that he is gun in the field and has never seen someone so economical. Signs off by saying that they are looking forward to the next game.
Steven Smith says it was a nervous final day and feels it was a brilliant Test match. Adds that it's all about showing resilience and standing up in tough situations. He praises Shaun Marsh and Peter Handscomb for digging in deep and earning a draw. Also adds that they batted beautifully and it was very crucial for the team. On his knock, Smith replies that it was a nice wicket and first innings runs were vital. Quickly adds that 450 was not enough to win this game and credits India for batting beautifully. He also has a word of praise for Glenn Maxwell and says that he was sensational and that's the way they want him to bat. Also praises Pat Cummins for his effort on this pitch. He is really proud of the way his boys played and is looking forward to Dharamsala.
On the last day when all predictions were about India, as to how fast they could wrap up this game, the visitors stepped up their game. Marsh and Handscomb showed grit and determination to do what they did. Ravichandran Ashwin only took two wickets and was far from his best. However, Ravindra Jadeja bowled his heart out and was always at the batsmen. But either team would be content with the result as both of them were behind at some point of time. Now the attention shifts to the fourth Test. But before that, lets see what the captains and the Man of the Match say at the presentation...
It was a tricky phase for India in the last session of day 3 as they lost Karun Nair and Ravichandran Ashwin quickly. But then came the knock of the series! Time and again, Cheteshwar Pujara has stepped up in this home season. But this knock has put him on a different pedestal. He batted for almost 78 overs with Wriddhiman Saha, who also scored a century and gave India a lead of 152 runs. Hadn't it been for Pat Cummins' outstanding bowling where he scalped four wickets, the home side could've scored a lot more.
An outstanding Test match really. It all started with a well deserved century from Steven Smith who remained unbeaten on 178. It was an innings which he will remember for a very long time. Some innings raise the bar of the batsman and this from Smith was one of them. Glenn Maxwell, too, was fantastic in his comeback as he registered his maiden ton. Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers for India as he sent five Australian batsmen back to the hut and ended the match with nine wickets.
The improbable has happened. Australia have managed to bat out the whole day and no it wasn't Steven Smith who led from the front. But Shaun Marsh and Peter Handscomb who stitched together a 124-run stand and played 62.1 overs. Kohli and Rahane acknowledge Handscomb's knock and convey the same to him with a handshake and some words. The series is still alive and the decider will be played in Dharamsala!
