Right then. That's it from the coverage of this game. The so-called consistent runners-up of the competition Guyana Amazon Warriors have started off this campaign on the right foot. They have triumphed over the defending champions. This Is just the start of the festive season of cricket in the Island. More action comes your way on 26th August, 2021. It sees a contest between Barbados Royals and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at 1900 local (2300 GMT). Cheers!
Nicholas Pooran, the skipper of Guyana Amazon Warriors, is up for a chat. He says, that he does not win tosses but he is happy to win games. Adds that TKR are a very good team and it is good to start the competition with a win. About Odean Smith, he says that he was sent up the order since they wanted him to score quick runs. Says that he is very pleased with effort of his bowlers.
Kieron Pollard, the skipper of Trinbago Knight Riders is up for a chat. He says, the unbeaten streak is over and it does not matter much to them. Mentions they could’ve made a big difference if they did not have leaked runs in the death over. Mentions he thinks 140 was an under-par score and they should’ve done better. Adds they bowled really well today and that’s the positive off this game. Mentions they will ask questions to themselves and they should get some answers to help them overcome the loss.
Odean Smith is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH, he says that it was a good performance by him. Adds that the wicket was quite difficult to bat on. Says that he was looking to hit the ball when it was in his arc. About his bowling, he says that he was looking to keep things tight and pick wickets. Finishes by saying that this is an important victory and they would look to build from here.
Guyana Amazon Warriors were sensational with the ball. The pick of the bowlers was Romario Shepherd as he went for only 15 in his three overs and took 3 wickets. Imran Tahir was as good as ever and took 2 wickets and so did Odean Smith. Naveen-ul-Haq was a touch expensive in the last over, but the game was decided by then. Overall, they would be quite satisfied with their show with the ball.
Trinbago Knight Riders would have wanted a strong start at the top but that did not happen. Sunil Narine, Lendl Simmons and Colin Munro fell quite early. Tim Seifert tried to repair things in the middle overs but the required run rate kept climbing up. Denesh Ramdin tried to take the game deep with his late hitting but could not finish off the game. In the end, they fell short by 9 runs.
A really good victory for Guyana Amazon Warriors. They did not have the biggest of scores to defend but they have managed to defend it quite comfortably. They start their campaign with a win against the defending champions.
