Right then, Mumbai make it 5-0 against Gujarat in the Women's T20 League and spoil their farewell game at their home ground. There is one final game left to be played at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara before the caravan moves to Bengaluru. It will be UP taking on Delhi on Wednesday, 19 February and that game will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). However, you can tune in to our build-up a lot sooner. Cheers!
Hayley Matthews is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH. She starts by saying that sometimes you get the good deliveries away and sometimes you get out on the freebies. Adds that the conditions suited her well and there was some turn in the wicket. Reckons that if they bowled second, she would have tried to just keep the stumps in play as much as possible. Mentions that the close games hurt a lot and they felt like, they let go of the previous match and were hungry to bounce back which they did.
Mumbai's captain, Harmanpreet Kaur expresses satisfaction with her team's performance, stating that everything went as planned. She highlights the importance of the first six overs, as discussed in team meetings, and credits the bowlers for executing their roles perfectly. Kaur emphasizes the strength of the squad and believes that consistent execution of the right strategies will lead to continued success. She remains confident in her team’s ability to deliver under pressure and maintain their winning momentum.
The Presentation ceremony...
The star of the chase, Natalie Sciver-Brunt is down for a chat. Natalie says that she wanted to give herself a chance and tried to hit straight and tried to balance out the risks. Adds that she tried to keep an attitude of chasing 160 which made her look for boundaries and finish off the game sooner rather than later. Mentions that she starts afresh after every game and tries to hit straight and jokes that the non-striker has to be ready as well. Adds that everyone on the team had the right mentality and they don't worry about being the individual hero.
Earlier in the game, Harmanpreet Kaur had no hesitation bowling first on a fresh pitch and her bowlers backed her decision brilliantly. Mumbai managed to bag a plethora of wickets inside the Powerplay and had Gujarat reeling at 28/4 in 6 overs. Gujarat continued to lose wickets at regular intervals as Harleen Deol held up one end and managed to get 32 runs. Apart from her, Kashvee Gautam was the only proper batter who got into double figures with the likes of Tanuja Kanwer and Sayali Satghare fighting hard at the death and propelling them to 120 runs. Mumbai bowled solidly as a unit and their four overseas players picked up 8 wickets amongst them with Hayley Matthews standing out with a three-fer. In reply, it was Natalie Sciver-Brunt who led the charge for Mumbai and her half century made sure there were no hiccups.
Ash Gardner, the captain of Gujarat talks about the game as being a huge learning at the start of the tournament itself. She says that the batting was very disappointing at the start which led to the fall of the entire game. She praises Priya Mishra and other young players to be really special talents coming into women's cricket. She says that the bowling and fielding was on point for them but they were below par with the bat and that was the downfall of the game. She further adds that there are some positives to take from this game and they will look to be better with the bat in the tournament.
Gujarat did the most they could with the ball but there weren't enough runs to defend to begin with. It was Tanuja Kanwer who got them the first breakthrough before the likes of Priya Mishra and Kashvee Gautam got a wicket each and kept Gujarat in the game. However, they fed too many boundary balls to Natalie Sciver-Brunt which didn't go unpunished. Both Mishra and Gautam went on to pick up a couple of wickets each but Mishra was hit away for plenty of runs by NSB as the likes of Ash Gardner and Deandra Dottin remained fairly ineffective in terms of picking wickets.
Needing 121 meager runs for the win, Mumbai needed a decent start in the first 6 overs and Hayley Matthews showed good intent. The timing wasn't quite there but she did get a few boundaries away before getting out. They did lose a couple of wickets in quick succession after the Powerplay, including that of skipper Harmanpreet Kaur but Natalie Sciver-Brunt at the other end looked in pristine touch. She put on 45 runs alongside Amelia Kerr who fell later on as NSB brought up back-to-back half-centuries. However, she couldn't apply the finishing touches and it was Sajana S and Under-19 sensation, Kamalini G who got the side over the line with plenty of balls to spare.
MUMBAI ARE UP AND RUNNING! The inaugural Women's T20 League champions have cruised through to the win here even after a bit of a sluggish start and get their first win of the season. Gujarat on the other hand, end the home leg with defeat and have just one win from 3 games now.

FOUR! OFF THE MARK IN STYLE! the debutant Kamalini G gets a boundary off her first ball! Short and wide outside off from Priya Mishra and Kamalini G gets back deep in the crease and slaps it behind point to get a boundary. Mumbai 3 runs away from a win.
Strategic break! With just 7 runs needed for the win, Mumbai are in sight of the finish line and it might not have been a classic performance with the bat but it has been comfortable enough. Gujarat have bowled well in patches but with not too many runs to defend with and a few 'hit-me' deliveries, they need a miracle to pull this one back from here. With that said, the youngest debutant in the Women's T20 League, Kamalini G walks out to bat.
