That's all we have for you from this game. It was good to see Test cricket coming back. England will party hard but Sri Lanka will have to sort the hings out when these two meet for the 2nd Test match on 27th May, 2016 at Chester-le-Street. We hope for your company on that game. Until then, goodbye and take care!
MAN OF THE MATCH, JONNY BAIRSTOW praises James Anderson for his bowling and thinks that the pacer explored the conditions very well. Also admits that he's happy to get the award. Says that keeping wickets is an exciting job for him. Adds that he was pleased with the way he struck the ball but feels there are a few things which he needs to work on. Praises Hales and the lower order for their contribution with the bat. Ends by thanking the crowd.
ALASTAIR COOK starts by saying that it was a ruthless performance from his side. Praises his bowling attack and admits that the weather played a huge role. Also praises Anderson and Broad for their bowling. Feels that it was brilliant to captain such a side. Thinks that the knock by Bairstow was extraordinary. Points out Hales' disciplined display with the bat. Ends by saying that he is pleased with the performance and will look to go 2-0 up in the next game.
ANGELO MATHEWS starts by saying that it was a tough game for them. Blames their poor display in batting. Praises Hales and Bairstow for their effort with the bat. Adds that they need to regroup and come back hard in the next game. Admits that his side is inexperienced and that lead to their downfall. Says that his team was against a top quality bowling line-up and they faltered. Ends by saying that they fell prey to the fierce duo of Anderson and Broad.
Sri Lanka will be bewailed with their performance in this Test. None of their batsmen showed the stomach to fight and as a result they were handed over a shambolic defeat. We got to see the replica of the first innings as apart from Mendis, everyone batted in similar fashion and gave it away to the Englishmen.
James Anderson and Stuart Broad ripped through the inexperienced Lankan middle order and bundled them out for a paltry 91. Cook then enforced the follow-on and asked them to bat again later on Day 2. The conditions weren't good enough and play for the day was called off. Come day 3, heavy showers were expected. It stayed away for a while but Sri Lanka were already in trouble having lost their top 3 batsmen. The rain gods arrived and the play was halted for a while. Once the play began the English bowling attack once again came to the party and got the job done inside 3 days. Finn took a 3-fer, while Anderson got a 5-fer.
James Anderson has the red cherry in his hand as he walks off the field. The rest of the players follow him. What a performance this has been from him! He bowled with determination and bagged back-to-back 5-fers in this Test to enter the record books of Headingley. First innings was all about Bairstow and Hales who steadied the struggling English ship and helped their side get near the 300-run mark. The wicket-keeper batsman, also the local boy got to his ton and then it was all on their bowlers to do the job.

Welcome back for the final session of the day and it seems it's going to be the final one of the Test match as well. THIRIMANNE and CHAMEERA will continue for Sri Lanka. STEVEN FINN will steam in first up. Here we go!!!
DAY 3... SESSION 3...
England players walk off the field with a big smile on their faces. Another session completely dominated by them. At the start of the session Cook handed the leather to Moeen Ali and that came as a surprised package as he sent Chandimal straightaway in the only over he bowled. The Sri lankan skipper failed to deliver the goods and well prey to Broad. Mendis was playing a good knock and got to his fifty but Anderson bowled with a strategy and got the better of him. Another bowling change in the name of Finn was made just before Tea and even he got a wicket of Herath. So, in all sense England are likely to seal this Test. Will Sri Lanka squeeze out the deficit of 91 runs or will we the home side clean them up? We shall find out in the final session.
