Right then, that is from this one-sided affair where London Spirit Women gets the better of Birmingham Phoenix Women to finish their season with a win. However, the action moves to the Men's Hundred where the same two teams face each other in a battle of pride. You can just switch tabs to enjoy the build-up of that game. Cheers!
Grace Harris is the PLAYER OF THE MACTH. She says that is one of the better games and she is happy to be contributing to the team. Adds that she loved the wicket as a batter but knows that the bowlers found it hard here. Tells that they wanted to finish on a positive note and is happy with the win. Mentions that she did not overthink in this game which sometimes she tends to do. Says that she always played against Heather Knight but is was good to play under her as well. Ends by saying that she names her bats after burgers and in this game she used the Zinger.
Earlier in the game, after being asked to bat first, Birmingham Phoenix Women posted a massive total on the board courtesy of a brilliant knock of 87 from Grace Harris with some good contributions from Danielle Gibson and Richa Ghosh. For Birmingham Phoenix Women, Charis Pavely, Katie Levick and, Erin Burns picked up a wicket each but the total proved to be too much for their batters who were bowled out for 99 runs and they faced another big defeat to end this dismal campaign.
The London Spirit Women had got a brilliant start as Danielle Gibson and Charlotte Dean dismissed the two openers early on in the innings putting them in a strong position. The dangerous-looking partnership was broken by Sarah Glenn as she trapped Sterre Kalis in front of the stumps with Amelia Kerr following soon with Amy Jones’s wicket. Erin Burns was also bowled over by her which almost sealed the game for the Spirits. Abbey Freeborn was run out just as she was settling down. After that, it was an easy run to victory for them. Gibson dismissed Wong while Glenn got the wicket of Emily Arlott. The final wicket was taken by Kerr and that sealed the game for them. They bowled their opponents out for 99 runs. Kerr was their best bowler with 4 wickets followed by Glenn and Gibson who got 2 each. Dean ended up with one wicket and a splendid bowling performance by the Spirit bowlers earned them those 2 points.
Chasing 173, Birmingham Phoenix Women never looked settled in the game. They lost their openers early without giving them a great start. A small partnership between Amy Jones and Sterre Kalis looked to go deep and bring them back into the game, but Kalis was dismissed with Jones following soon after. Eve Jones and Abbey Freeborn also failed to settle on the pitch as they were sent back in quick succession. After that, it was just wickets falling until they were all sent back under a hundred runs. A very disappointing performance with the bat for the Phoenix Women!
A comprehensive win for London Spirit Women! They finish their season on a high while Birmingham Phoenix Women ends their campaign without a win and will look to comeback stronger in the next season. It is all smiles and high-fives though among the Spirit players.
