That's all from Day 2. The game hangs in the balance. The weather is expected to be clear on Day 3 but expect some spoilsport on the last couple of days. However, let's hope we get more action on Day 3 than what we got on Day 2. The action on Day 3 will begin 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start to cover the lost time. So, join us at 0930 local (2330 GMT THE PREVIOUS DAY) for all the action. Until then, it is goodbye from our end.
After that the Indians came out to bat. Cummins removed Gill early before Rohit and Pujara added 49. It was Rohit who scored most of the runs during that stand and was looking in supreme touch. However, he threw his wicket away as he tried to attack Lyon. After that, Pujara and Rahane made sure there wasn't another casualty before Tea. We went off for the break and rain arrived. It bucketed down at the Gabba and when it eventually stopped, it left the conditions wet. After a couple of inspections, the play was called off.
It was Shardul Thakur who struck for the visitors first as he got better of Paine. Sundar knocked over Green in the very next over and Shardul returned to send Cummins packing. Washington Sundar then snared his aussie counterpart, Nathan Lyon. Eventually, T Natarajan got his 3rd wicket of the game when he dismissed Hazlewood as the last wicket.
Earlier in the day, the Aussie overnight batters, Paine and Green, added a few runs before three wickets in quick succession fell to put India on top. Paine once again fell after getting to his half ton. However, Starc along with Lyon added a few valuable runs for his side and made sure Aussies crossed 350 comfortably.
Right! That's a bit disappointing end to the day's play. After Rohit got himself in, the Aussies stormed back in the game with his wicket. They were putting the duo of Pujara and Rahane under pressure before the Tea break. The Aussies would've loved a few more overs to have a go at the Indians but with the heavy downpour, it was impossible to have so.
Update 1650 Local (0650 GMT) - We hate to bring you some bad news, real bad news. Apparently the umpires had another look at the ground conditions and although rain did stop, they have deemed that the condtions are not fit for resumption of play. So, FURTHER PLAY HAS BEEN ABANDONED FOR DAY 2!
Till we get the latest news about the resumption of play, hear what Nathan has to say. Lyon starts off by saying that this ground dries pretty quickly. Is grateful for getting the wicket of Rohit Sharma, earlier, adding that the Indian batsman is a great player. On whether he has had a chance to speak to his parents regarding his milestone (100th Test), Gazza says that the players are in a bubble and hence he is not able to talk to them. But says that they are in the stands and are watching him play. Shane Warne prods him about Rishabh Pant and his rivalry with him, to which Gary says that Rishabh is always looking to tonk him out of the park. Jokingly remarks that his on-drive was the best shot that he has ever played and reckons that it was the shot of the series (albeit in a humorous manner).
Update 1625 Local (0625 GMT) - Well, we have visuals from the ground and we can say that THE SUN IS OUT! But we must also add that the ground still has some water and therefore, there is a second inspection scheduled at 1645 Local (0645 GMT). Let's hope we get to hear more positive news then...
Update 1550 Local (0550 GMT) - We have good news to present. It has stopped raining and the covers are coming off. We are hearing that there will be an inspection at 1615 Local time.
Update 1535 Local (0535 GMT) - It is that phase, where we as commentators turn more into giving you weather updates than being able to keep you updated on the match happenings. And that is because it still continues to pour down heavily at the Gabba. It will be a herculean task for the groundstaff to drain out the water, despite the presence of an excellent drainage system. But let's keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best...
Update 1505 Local (0505 GMT) - It is bucketing down at Brisbane now! Nothing unexpected, all on expected lines. Visuals of the ground show that it is absolutely pouring down. Some members of the crowd are enjoying themselves, match or shower. Let's hope though that the rain stops early and we get underway as quickly as possible.
Update 1520 Local (0520 GMT) - The latest scenes are not inspiring as it continues to rain in full swing. Looks like we are in for a long wait. The good thing though is that Gabba has an excellent drainage system. So, let's hope the rain goes away soon and we are back with the action, as early as possible.
Update 1500 Local (0500 GMT) - We are just getting live visuals from the ground that covers are coming on the square. Not that it is raining but it is very dark and Harsha Bhogle (on air) states that the groundsmen expect a hailstorm to arrive. Let's hope though that we can get underway soon. Stay tuned for the updates...
Right! A good, battling session of cricket ends. Rohit did well to keep the scoreboard ticking but Australia removed him just in time. Now, India's two top batters, Pujara and skipper Rahane are out in the middle. They will need to rebuild again when we return for the final session. Aussies, on the other hand, would love to see a few more wickets fall in the evening session. Remember, we might have rain interruptions in the final session as it has been forecasted. However, let's keep our fingers crossed. Be back soon for the last session on Day 2...
Australia bowled well in this session. They were patient throughout the period when Rohit was looking in decent touch. Cummins was the man for the Aussies to provide the first wicket, like he has done so many times. Lyon, playing his 100th Test, got the better of Rohit Sharma to make sure the honours are shared in this session. He got his 397th and is at the cusp of getting to 400 Test wickets. Hazlewood bowled tight lines and lengths and surprisingly, Mitch Starc got just 3 overs.
India started the session cautiously with Rohit and Gill doing well to play nearly the first 30 minutes of the session without much trouble. However, Gill got out without doing much but Rohit continued and he was looking in fluent touch. He hit a few glorious boundaries before falling into the trap of Lyon as he wanted to take him on. Rohit departed for 44, not too far from the Tea break. After his wicket, Pujara, along with Rahane made sure India went to the break without another hiccup.
A very good session of cricket, again! India were looking solid with Rohit looking in very good touch. However, the Aussies struck in time to make sure he wasn't running away with a big score. Both the teams wouldn't be too disappointed with the way things have gone in this session. Rohit, however, might be rueing inside the dressing room for the way he got dismissed.

Nathan Lyon To Rohit Sharma OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT! Rohit Sharma departs. Commentator's curse works as Glenn McGrath (on air) was lavishing praise on Rohit previously. It is a good catch from Starcy. Lyon gets 397 wickets in Tests now. Full and around the off stump, Sharma skips down the track and looks to go big on the leg side. He though does not time it well and gets more of the elevation than distance. 'CATCH' is the shout. Mitchell, who was at long on, keeps his eyes on the ball, runs forward, tumbles and takes a very good catch. A well set Rohit Sharma has to walk back now. He needed to be there for more, but has failed to do so, Rohit.

It is his 100th Test game and his family is in the stands as well. 4 wickets shy of 400 in Tests, can Lyon bag them in this very innings? Let's find out...

FOUR! Short and wide and Rohit pounces on the scoring opportunity. Too short and too wide, Rohit slashes it through backward point for a boundary. There was shouts of catch but that went like a tracer bullet and nobody had a chance.

Edged but short! Cummins induces the edge again, of Pujara. A fulll ball outside off. It is juicy enough for Pujara to go for the drive. He does that but gets an outside edge that falls short of Smith at second slip.

Rohit's turn to hit it down the ground! A fuller ball around off, Rohit meets it with straight bat and drives it through mid off. The ball is racing towards the fence but Labuschagne gives it a chase and makes a diving stop near the fence. Saves a run as the batters take three.

Pat Cummins To Cheteshwar Pujara
Nicely pushed down the ground. Just a gentle push that is all, reckons Allan Border (on air). Full length ball just outside off, Cheteshwar Pujara nudges it wide of mid off. The fielder there turns back, runs and keeps it out before it reaches the boundary. Three taken in the meanwhile though.
DRINKS! A tough hour for India comes to an end. Australians have landed an early blow by netting the in-form Shubman Gill, courtesy a peach from Patrick Cummins. And Pujara, survived by just, on the very next ball, with the outside edge falling just short of Smith, at second slip. With not a great deal of batting depth or experience to follow, much rests on these two's shoulders to carry forward the Indian innings. Let's see if they can brave the storm (the bowling one, we meant) after the mini-break...

Huge appeal but turned down by the umpire. No review from Australia. They gave it a thought though. A length ball around off and middle, it comes back in as Rohit looks to work it on the leg side. He misses and gets hit high on the pad. A loud appeal follows but the umpire is not interested. They cross ends as the ball goes to the leg side. Run given which means the umpire thought that there was some bat there. Inside edge maybe.

Edged again but this one falls short. Absolutely terrific stuff from Cummins here. A fuller ball just outside off, Pujara pokes at the first ball, once again with hard hands. This time the outside edge goes to the left of Smith and it keeps low. Smith lunges forward and tries to catch but it bounces before him.
Cheteshwar Pujara walks out to bat at No. 3. Exactly the situation that requires his sort of patient, steady state of play.

Pat Cummins To Shubman Gill OUT!
OUT! TAKEN! Australia draw first blood. It is that man again. Pat Cummins, the number one Test bowler in the world. Terrific from Cummins. Good length and just outside off, it pitches and then shapes away. Gill stays rooted in his crease and looks to poke at it. He does that with hard hands and ends up getting an outside edge. The ball goes to the right side of Steven Smith at second slip. Smudge there is safe as houses as he gobbles the chance easily.
