That concludes the proceedings for this game. It was an easy win for Australia Women and with two strong victories, they are sitting pretty on top of the table in Group A. On Wednesday, 15th February, a couple of matches from Group B are lined up - India Women vs West Indies Women at 6.30 pm IST (1 pm GMT) and Pakistan Women vs Ireland Women at 10.30 pm IST (5 pm GMT). Do join us in advance for our build-up. Until then, it's goodbye and cheers!
Meg Lanning, the skipper of Australia Women, says that they adjusted to the conditions really well. Adds that Georgia Wareham is a game-changer and it's nice to have her back after a long injury break. Mentions that it's nice to know that they will be playing in the same conditions for the next few games and shares that it was not easy to bat. Meg also praises Marufa Akter for the way she bowled and she feels that Akter seems ready to take the next step.
Nigar Sultana, the captain of Bangladesh Women, says that they failed to get enough runs in the Powerplay and that was one of the reasons. Mentions that it was a very good track and it's not easy to defend. Tells that if she bats for long, they get good runs and that's what she was trying to do. She praises for the way Marufa Akter bowled against some world-class batters. Nigar says that they are looking forward to playing good cricket against New Zealand Women and she wants her team to focus on batting. Thanks the fans for coming out in their support.
Georgia Wareham (4-0-20-3) is the Player of the Match! Says that it's very special to play for your country and to pick wickets that too in a World Cup. Shares that there was some spin on offer and hopes that it will start to spin more in future games. Adds that it's an honour to represent Australia and thanks the selectors for backing her. Tells that she is enjoying the atmosphere and the band at the stadium was really loud.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
Earlier, Bangladesh Women elected to field but their batting lacked intent. Apart from skipper Nigar Sultana, no other batter put up a fight and they managed just 107 on the board. The way they bowled, had they got a total close to 140-150, this game would have been very interesting.
It was a small chase for Australia Women and all they needed was one decent partnership. After losing Beth Mooney cheaply, Alyssa Healy and Meg Lanning formed that substantial stand and then the Australian skipper, along with Ashleigh Gardner saw her team over the line.
Easy win for Australia Women! They would have liked to finish the chase a lot earlier but credit goes to Bangladesh Women for bowling tidy lines and not letting Australia run away with the game. Marufa Akter was the standout bowler for them as she troubled the Australian top order with her pace and movement.
