That wraps up the formalities of this game. The action now shifts to Hobart where the second Test starts on 12th November. Not much time to reflect for the Australians and they'll have to regroup fast. South Africa will want to seal the series there itself. The action starts at 0500 IST. Do join us for that one. Till then, enjoy our coverage of the ongoing Zimbabwe-Sri Lanka Test and the India-England Test that will start on 9th November. Till then, it's goodbye from us.
Faf du Plessis says that it wasn't easy in the fourth innings with just two pacers. Lauds Rabada and Philander for stepping up in Steyn's absence. States that they were below par on day one and adds that there were some harsh words spoken. Adds that the comeback in the remaining days was unbelievable. Lauds the whole team for putting up a collective effort.
Steven Smith says that it is a disappointing result especially after bossing the first day's play. Bemoans that they couldn't capitalize on the position. Feels that Duminy and Elgar took it away from Australia. Admits that the batting collapses in recent times has hurt his side and hopes that they can sort it out. States that they have to put up an improved show in the next game at Hobart. Praises South Africa for playing great cricket and says that he always enjoys playing for the country.
Kagiso Rabada (Man of the Match) says that he is proud of his team's efforts especially after losing Steyn. Says that the senior pacer's absence hurt but adds that it motivated the others to step up. Feels that the track was mostly flat although there was a little help for the bowlers. Felt that his side executed their plans really well. Says that he'd be ready for the next Test match.
Rabada was the bowling star in the second innings for SA and it won't be wrong to say that he singlehandedly bowled the Proteas to a win especially with Philander not looking as threatening. They lost Steyn midway through the second session on day two but the others ensured that the tourists weren't affected. Philander stepped up in the first innings and Rabada led the charge in the second. AUSTRALIA'S 18-MATCH UNBEATEN STREAK AT HOME HAS BEEN BROKEN.
Duminy and Elgar struck tons to blunt the Aussie bowling which was backed up by the SA lower order. The hosts' bowlers were ground to dust and by the time Faf declared on day 4, the target read a massive 539. Australia's top order had to step up but only Khawaja registered a significant score. Warner and Smith wasted starts to make things worse for the hosts. Having lost four top order wickets by stumps on day 4, the result was never in doubt despite some heroics by the lower order.
The game will be remembered for the stunning comeback made by South Africa after being destroyed on day 1. They posted just 242 and Australia had raced to 105/0 by stumps. It then became 158/0 by drinks on day 2 before the terrible collapse followed. South Africa through Philander's brilliance roared back in style to restrict Australia to just 244. The deficit was just 2 for the tourists and from there on, it was mostly one-way traffic in the match.
A comprehensive win by South Africa although the Aussie lower order did delay the inevitable for a while. The day started with the tourists needing six wickets to win and they got three in the first session itself including the big one of the well-set Khawaja who narrowly missed out on his ton. Nevill and Hazlewood ate out more than 20 overs to frustrate the visitors but Bavuma broke the stubborn stand before Maharaj wrapped things up.

Keshav Maharaj To Nathan Lyon OUT!
OUT! The decision stays as it is! Keshav Maharaj seals it for South Africa! Floated ball around middle, angling in as well. Nathan Lyon prods forward to defend but misses and is rapped on the pads right in front of the stumps. An appeal is made and umpire Llong rules it out immediately. They take it upstairs and replays show it was clipping the leg pole. So, the on-field umpire's call stays and that is it. SOUTH AFRICA WIN BY 177 RUNS AND GO 1-0 UP IN THE SERIES!
An LBW appeal against Lyon is taken upstairs. It looks out to the naked eye.
Keshav Maharaj is called back into the attack!
