Right then Australia Under-19 seals the top spot in the group after defeating Sri Lanka Under-19 by 6 wickets. Cricketing actions continue to flourish our way as all you need is to switch tabs and enjoy an exciting clash going on in the SA20 league between Durban and Paarl. See you guys soon, till then cheers!
Hugh Weibgen the winning captain credits Sri Lanka Under-19 for the way they played and took it to the end. He adds that with 4 main bowlers, they can find the 10 overs from the part-timers and it shouldn't be an issue going ahead. He further says that the pitch had spin and they were trying to play according to the situation and will see how the pitches react in the games ahead.
The skipper of Sri Lanka Under-19 Sineth Jayawardena says they were planning near about 240-250 but the Aussies bowled well and they were unable to put up partnerships in between as much as they would've liked. Adds that the problem for them is not having enough good partnerships that take the game deep. Mentions that some changes will be there in the coming games.
Ryan Hicks is the player of the match for his outstanding unbeaten innings of 77 runs. He says the plan was to control the game, play positively and keep the runs ticking. He adds that he likes to use his feet and use the crease against the spinners. He then says that they were trying to negate the spinners and cashed in on quicks.
Stay tuned for the presentation ...
Earlier in the day, after electing to bat first Sri Lanka Under-19 managed to post a fighting total in front of the young Aussies, thanks to a brilliant knock of 64 by Dinura Kalupahana, a few others did get starts but threw their wicket after putting in the hard yards. There were a few partnerships in the 40s but they kept losing wickets regularly. The bowlers bowled well keeping the Islanders at bay. Callum Vidler was the pick of the bowlers as he chipped in with 3 while Mahli Beardman and Tom Campbell scalped a couple each. Other bowlers chipped in with a wicket each as well.
The bowlers of Sri Lanka Under-19 did not start well and gave away a bit too many in the first 10 overs. The side though picked up wickets in a cluster but failed to capitalize on it and lost eventually. Vishwa Lahiru was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up a couple while Sineth Jayawardena and Malsha Tharupathi took a wicket each.
Chasing down a decent total the Aussies were off to a solid start. The duo of Sam Konstas and Harry Dixon added 71 together. Harry Dixon was the aggressor but fell 1 short of his half-century. The Aussies lost their way a bit as they lost the top order in a jiffy with 3 wickets falling in a space of 4 overs. The 4th wicket partnership of 49 between Ryan Hicks and Harjas Singh then stabled the ship and saved the side from a collapse that could've been dangerous for them. The best partnership of the game though came at the best time for the Aussies as they put up a partnership of 82 runs for the 5th wicket between Ryan Hicks and Tom Campbell. Ryan Hicks was the top scorer for the side and played a mature innings of 77. Sam Konstas played a good hand of 23 while Tom Campbell was good with the bat as well scoring 33 being unbeaten along with Ryan Hicks.
Australia Under-19 defeats Sri Lanka Under-19 by 6 wickets and they top their group. A mature knock of 77 from Ryan Hicks has helped the Aussies stay unbeaten in the group stage.
