It's a goodbye from here - That draws the curtains on this opening warm-up fixture, with Afghanistan registering a commanding victory to kickstart their campaign, but the cricketing carnival is in full swing elsewhere. The action rolls on as the USA have a game with India A in the second match of the day, while the pre-match buzz is already building for the upcoming clash between Canada and Italy. Do switch tabs to catch the action of those games as well. Until then, it’s goodbye and cheers!
It was a clinical bowling display from the Afghans - The Afghan bowling unit was relentless, choking the runs and picking up wickets whenever a partnership threatened to build. Nabi spun a web late in the game to grab two wickets, while Rashid and Rahman chipped in efficiently. However, Azmatullah Omarzai was the pick of the bowlers as he ended with a three-fer. A massive confidence booster for Afghanistan, while Scotland will need to go back to the drawing board before their next fixture.
Scotland never looked like going - In reply, the chase never really got out of first gear for Scotland. Stifled by disciplined lines and lengths, the Scottish batters struggled to find the boundary or rotate the strike effectively. Wickets fell at regular intervals, and with the asking rate climbing sky-high. They were 63/3 at the halfway stage, needing 122 runs. The wickets then kept on falling again and they never could find pace to their innings. They eventually lost by 61 runs.
Afghan batters had set the tone earlier - Batting first, the Afghans recovered beautifully from early trouble thanks to a masterclass from Darwish Rasooli. His blistering 84, combined with a solid partnership with Ibrahim Zadran and a late blitz from Mohammad Nabi, propelled them to an imposing 184/6. It was the perfect template for setting a massive total by shifting gears smoothly.
A dominant start for the Afghans - A comprehensive performance from Afghanistan sees them start their World Cup preparations with a resounding 61-run victory. They outplayed Scotland in every department, looking sharp and composed. It was a clinical all-round show that sends a strong message to the rest of the teams in the tournament.
