So that's it from us today, hope you enjoyed our coverage of the series. Both the teams now head to play the Intercontinental Cup, where a win for either side would be crucial in the race for acquiring the Test status. Till then, goodbye and cheers!
Afghanistan skipper, Asghar Stanikzai thanks almighty for the series victory. Praises his fellow teammates for the win. Acknowledges the efforts of Rahmat Shah in the finals. Says that Samiullah Shenwari and Rahmat Shah proved their seniority in the team with their performance today. Ends by saying that there is a tough game (Intercontinental Cup) lined up and they are hoping to win it.
Ireland skipper, William Porterfield feels that they were 25-30 runs short. Thinks that the ODI series could've gone either way but Rahmat played incredibly to take Afghanistan over the line. Ends by saying that they fought well but the hosts were the better side.
A couple of more awards... Best Batsman of the Series is Paul Stirling. Best Bowler of the Series is Rashid Khan.
Man of the Series, Paul Stirling says that he is really happy to get some runs on the board. Feels good to contribute for the team. Acknowledges Afghanistan for the victory. Ends by saying that he loves to play cricket in the subcontinent and it is quite different to the conditions at home.
Man of the Match, Rahmat Shah thanks almighty. Informs that Asghar asked him to take time and keep wickets in hand. (On the preparation for his batting) Admits that they worked hard for two or three months and the result was there to see, he says.
During the first innings, it was Rashid Khan, once again, who scalped four wickets to bring the hosts back into the game. Paul Stirling continued his good run with the bat, registering his fourth fifty of the series. The target of 230 never seemed that daunting, but a good bowling performance could've made things trickier. However, the hosts ensured that was not the case and chased the total quite comfortably. The Afghan side were delighted, rightly so. Lets find out more about their emotions at the presentation ceremony.
The Irish bowlers seemed to have some control in the game when their spinners were on. But their failure to break the Shenwari-Shah partnership proved too costly. Jacob Mulder and George Dockrell were a tad expensive in the context of the game, but the rest of the bowlers kept things tight.
Afghanistan have produced an astounding performance in the fifth and the final ODI to seal the match and the series. This series was similar to their tour of Zimbabwe, where they lost the third and the fourth ODI only to come back hard in the fifth and win it. This time around it was Ireland who fell prey to an inspired Afghanistan side. Talking about the match, it was Rahmat Shah who scored an excellent ton, and stayed unbeaten, to guide his side to a 7-wicket victory. He was ably supported by Samiullah Shenwari, who not only shared a 133-run stand with the former, but also scored 62 runs.
