That's all from this match. Do join us on 17th March for the second ODI at 0930 local, 0400 GMT. Until then, it's goodbye and cheers!
Asghar Stanikzai says that his players played really well and credits Dawlat Zadran and Rashid Khan for bringing them back in the game. Informs that he wanted Rashid and Dawlat to bowl with the old balls as both of them are quite good with it.
In spite of ending on the losing side, William Porterfield is awarded the Man of the Match for his superb century. He says that they should have won the match. Adds that his partnership with Stirling was important but he knew it's not easy to bat for the new batsman. Admits that not having any other partnership cost them the game.
Ireland will be heartbroken after this loss. They held the game by the scruff of the neck but then allowed it to slip away from their grasp. The middle order wasted the start and capitulated. Afghanistan should be given a lot of credit for triggering a collapse as at one stage Ireland were cruising on 206/2. Plenty of soul-searching to do for the Irish team.
Excellent win for Afghanistan. They were under the pump at one stage when the big partnership between Paul Stirling and William Porterfield was prospering. But once again it was Rashid Khan who brought them back in the game by providing the breakthrough. He was too hot to handle and finished with a 4-fer. Dawlat Zadran also bowled an exemplary spell with the old ball and grabbed a 4-wicket haul which included the prized scalp of William Porterfield.
