Over and out - Phew! What a game, one that swung like a pendulum from start to finish. Proof, if any were needed, that no total is ever truly out of reach, and that even the lowest-scoring contests can go right down to the very last ball. New Zealand take the unassailable lead by winning the five-match ODI series 3-1, but they will surely reflect on their batting collapse. And with a game still to go, West Indies will aim to salvage pride and improve on their recurring batting vulnerabilities, especially against spin. The fifth and final ODI will be played in Barbados on Wednesday, 22nd July and the first ball is scheduled to be bowled at 6.30 pm GMT. But do join us early for the build up. Until then, we take your leave. Cheers!
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - The captain of New Zealand, MITCHELL SANTNER, deservingly wins the award for his match-winning knock of an unbeaten 34 (56). He also made impact with the ball, with figures of 2/36 in 10 overs, including a maiden. Reflecting on a chaotic finish, Santner admits the game probably shouldn't have gone as close as it did, but was just glad to get his side over the line. He speaks about the value of chipping away at the target in small partnerships, pointing out that even stands of 10 or 15 count for plenty in tense run chases like that one. On the bowling effort, he feels conditions were a touch tacky early on, with the seamers setting the tone before the spinners took over. Adds that New Zealand were pleased to restrict West Indies to 188, but never took it lightly, well aware of the quality in the home attack, an attack he felt lived up to that reputation on the day. Santner says that batting through the tail was always going to be the challenge, and calls it part and parcel of his role in that position. With the target not too steep, he says there was no real pressure of time, which let them play out a few dot balls and focus on shielding the lower order rather than exposing them. He singles out Alzarri Joseph, who had the ball reversing and made things genuinely difficult, alongside Motie, whose five-wicket haul he rates as outstanding. When he is asked about his chat with Jayden Lennox in the middle, Santner shares that the message was just to play straight, block it out, and let him try to find the remaining runs himself. Looking ahead to the series finale, he expects more of the same from his side, anticipating a similar surface for the day-night game, with the ball likely to skid on a touch.
The captain of West Indies - Shai Hope admits that it hasn't really sunk in yet. He calls it a fantastic game for the neutral, the kind any fan without a side to support would have thoroughly enjoyed. But says that with an automatic World Cup qualification on the line, the result stings, and is quick to commend his side for the fight they showed regardless. On the batting, he doesn't mince words, admitting West Indies were well under par. Mentions that batting first in the Caribbean is never straightforward, but details that this surface was never a 188 all-out pitch. He wants his batters, himself included, applying themselves better and reading conditions faster, with more intent and more responsibility shown at the top of the order especially. Stresses that against the world's second-ranked side, 180 simply doesn't cut it. He has nothing but praise for the bowling effort, pointing out there's only so much you can ask of an attack defending 188. Adds that Gudakesh Motie's return to form stood out for him, as did Matthew Forde carrying on from where he left off in Guyana, and Alzarri Joseph's consistency, which helped drag West Indies back into the contest. Says that the bowlers gave everything, and now it's on the batters to respond in kind. When asked about playing in memory of Sir Garfield Sobers and the backing from the stands, Hope thanks the Kensington crowd, calling it home and speaking of the warmth the team always feels playing there. He is disappointed not to get the win in Sobers' honour, but hopes the side can put things right in the next game. Looking ahead, he acknowledges automatic World Cup qualification has become a steep climb from here, but mentions that the team will keep fighting and aim to finish the series on a high.
... Time for the post-match Presentation ...
Never really got going - It was a morning of struggle for West Indies, and the scorecard made grim reading. In a game they simply had to set the tempo in, they crashed to 188 all out, a total flattered considerably by a valiant 81-run stand for the seventh wicket between Gudakesh Motie and Amir Jangoo. Matt Fisher was the standout with the ball, the delivery that flattened Shai Hope's off stump among the moments of the match so far. He finished with 3 for 40, his first set of wickets in ODI cricket. Santner did the early damage up top, while Lennox held sway through the middle and death overs.
A Motie-vational performance - West Indies needed something close to a miracle to turn this game on its head, with New Zealand needing just 47 to get home. But the hosts made sure every one of those runs came hard-earned, turning a modest chase into a grind that had the Kiwis sweating right till the very end. After a rain break, it's invariably the batters who have to work hardest to find their rhythm again, and Bracewell falling on the very first ball after resumption set the tone for exactly that kind of unease. It seemed to rattle New Zealand's approach at the top, and from there they slipped into a shell rather than looking to counter. Too many dot balls crept into the equation as the focus shifted squarely to preserving wickets, and that caution, understandable as it was, let West Indies build pressure they didn't necessarily have the runs to apply on their own. It's a reminder of how quickly momentum can flip in a chase, and one interruption and one twitchy passage of play is sometimes all it takes. The contest tightened further still when Gudakesh Motie completed his maiden ODI five wicket haul, but standing firm between West Indies and victory was Santner. The Kiwi captain played the wall till the very end, shepherding the tail with composure and calm. And when it mattered most, with the game there for the taking, West Indies let him slip through their fingers.
Chapman, the man of crisis - New Zealand didn't get a smooth start as they were dented early doors, with their top three dismissed inside the Powerplay. Reduced to 46/3, they needed someone to steady the ship. As in such modest run chases, a single stable partnership is enough to get the job done. Mark Chapman was the man who kept the counterattack on with his aggressive approach, and though he lost Latham, Michael Bracewell put his hand up and played a good foil to arrest the slide. Their 65-run partnership brought a much-needed calm, with Chapman scoring a half-century of high quality against a disciplined West Indian bowling attack who had its tails up.
Fought till the last drop of blood - The series may have gone New Zealand's way by the narrowest of margins, but credit where it's due. This was West Indies at their fighting best. With only 188 to defend, nowhere near enough on paper, they somehow turned it into a contest from the very first ball of the chase, and pushed this right to the wire. They knew all along there was only one way to win this. By taking all ten Kiwi wickets, nothing less. But they never lost heart, not for a moment, and kept coming right till the very end. And they could well have pulled this off too, had that catch been taken for the last wicket in the 43rd over.
A blockbuster in Barbados - Anguish in the West Indies camp, relief pouring through the Kiwi dressing room. What an entertaining game of cricket that was, plenty of bright moments to take from both sides across this contest. And in a game that carried the weight of tribute, played on the day cricket lost Sir Garry Sobers, it's fair to say it lived up to that billing. But when the dust settles, it's New Zealand who walk away with the series in their pocket. This is the only second ODI series win for New Zealand on the West Indian soil. And they go back-to-back, in 2022 and now in 2026. The hosts are heartbroken, but there are good scenes out in the middle as Shai Hope gathers his men into a huddle, an arm round the shoulder for a side that gave everything and came up just short.

Jayden Seales To Mitchell Santner
Mitchell Santner hits the winning run for the tourists. Good length, around off, Mitchell Santner lofts this over the infield on off. He doesn't get the timing right at all, but he manages to clear the inner ring as the ball drops in the deep cover region. They cross for a single and joy seeps throughout the Kiwi camp. New Zealand win by 1 wicket and seal the series with a game to spare.

Excellent umpiring from Ahsan Raza! Another big shout for LBW goes up, but the umpire's not interested, shaking his head straightaway. West Indies send it upstairs for a review. This is flighted, on a fuller length, around off and spinning in. Lennox takes a big lunge forward to defend but is beaten on the inside edge before the front pad gets struck. UltraEdge shows a flat line, but the Ball Tracking confirms that the impact is outside the off stump.

A review for caught behind. Huge moment in the game. Full and around off, on a flatter trajectory, spinning away. Lennos is drawn forward and looks to block but the ball zips past the outside edge. Vitel appeals for caught behind but the umpire turns it down. West Indies go up for a review. UltraEdge shows a flat line and Lennox lives to see another day.
Scores remain level. And it will be Lennox on the strike. Vitel Lawes is brought back into the attack.

IN THE AIR... AND DROPPED! Anguish sweeps through the West Indies camp, a golden chance gone begging at the worst possible moment. Seales is down on his haunches, punching the ground in sheer frustration, knowing exactly what that chance could have meant. A complete communication lapse between the fielders. Bowls it full and outside off. Santner gets on the front foot and looks to go big over the cover fielder, but the bat face turns in his hands and he ends up skying it up the chimney. The ball balloons high into the sky. But there's a huge lack of communication underneath it, with neither fielder calling loudly enough, and both Justin Greaves from extra cover and the man at sweeper cover Ackeem Auguste converge on the catch at the same time. They collide, and the ball spills out of Auguste's hands. Two runs taken. SCORES ARE LEVEL NOW!

Pure theatre at the Kensington Oval. Motie's delight knows no bounds and he has earned every bit of it to celebrate. He still has one ball left in the spell and it will be the new batter to face. Jayden Lennox is the last man in for New Zealand. There's a slip and a forward short leg in place.

New Zealand need 35 runs to win in 108 balls, with 4 wickets in hand. West Indies would like to make it hard work for the tourists to earn every run. Surely, they will still fancy their chances to take those four wickets. Only three fielders are outside the inner ring to prevent easy singles.

Gudakesh Motie To Michael Bracewell OUT!
OUT! BOWLED'EM! A wicket straight after the brief break. Is there a twist left? Motie bowls from around the stumps, and darts in a quicker one, on the pads. Michael Bracewell goes a long way across the stumps and looks to flick but misses. The ball goes around the legs of the batter and rattles the timber. New Zealand are 149/6, needing 40 more runs.
Welcome back. The umpires and players make their way out again. New Zealand need 40 runs for the win, and West Indies will need something close to a miracle to snag the five wickets standing between them and a series defeat. Not impossible, though, as stranger things have happened in this game. Michael Bracewell and Mitchell Santner will resume their batting. And Gudakesh Motie (4-0-23-2) is into the attack after the rain break. Bracewell to face. Here we go again...
8.16 pm GMT - All the covers are peeled off now, and the stumps have been erected on the pitch as well. The umpires stroll out to the middle and are inspecting the conditions, while also having a word with the ground staff members. Stick around, as we will get the official resumption time very soon. The Super Sopper is doing the rounds of the outfield to soak up the moisture. So everything is in place and we aren't far away from getting back on.
8.10 pm GMT - There's some movement in the middle as the members of the ground staff are heading towards the covers. And pleasingly, nobody is carrying an umbrella, so that suggests that the rain has stopped or is considerably reduced. Looks like it, as the covers are coming off. Also, the overhead conditions have brightened up and the wind has blown away that threatening dark band of clouds.
8.05 pm GMT - The rain has approached the stadium now. It is raining heavily at Kensington Oval, and the covers are firmly placed on the pitch and squares. Remember, if play doesn't resume from here, New Zealand will get the win through DLS. Let's hope it doesn't come to that, and that this passes quickly. Fingers crossed for some play yet.
7.57 pm GMT - Oh, no! The umpires have called for the covers, well ahead of the rain actually arriving. The players walk off the field and the ground staff spring into action to get the outfield protected in time. It has gotten dark now, but it's windy as well. So let's hope that the wind blows those dark clouds away and we get an organic end to this fourth ODI. Ian Bishop on air informs that New Zealand are comfortably ahead on the DLS.

Gudakesh Motie To Mark Chapman OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT! An excellent take in the deep by Sherfane Rutherford sends Mark Chapman back 20 runs short of his century. Fuller on middle and off, Mark Chapman gets down on a knee and sweeps this aerially, but gets a bit of a top edge and it sails to the right of deep square leg. Sherfane Rutherford glides to his right, puts in a dive and holds onto it in front of the fence. This dismissal of Chapman can make things interesting again. New Zealand are 142 for 5.

Chance of a run out, but missed out! Had the throw hit, Chapman was gone for all money there. Good length, around off, nipping in a bit. Bracewell hangs back and looks to pull but inside edges on the pads and it rolls towards cover-point. Now, there's a big communication lapse between the batters. Bracewell stops and then starts running for the single as Chapman tears through from the other end. Keemo Paul rushes forward from cover-point and has all three stumps to aim at. Underarms the throw, but misses his shy at the batting end. Chapman overstretches and rails in but he looks in a lot of pain. Might have pulled his hamstring.

Tom Latham looks to drag this across with a sweep but ends up hitting this flatly off the toe end and straight in the hands of Justin Greaves at the short mid-wicket position. New Zealand are 77/4, needing 112 runs.

DRINKS! The game is tilted heavily in favor of the visitors, as even after early jitters, the Kiwis have done well to recover with the calm and composed figure of Tom Latham joining Mark Chapman in the middle. With NZ still needing 132 more runs off the remaining 36 overs, the home side, WI, will be needing wickets to crawl their way back into this contest.

Jayden Seales To Will Young OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Seales bowls this right in the channel, on a good length, nipping away from the right-hander in that corridor of uncertainty. Will Young pokes at it away from his body in a tentative manner. Young gets beaten on the outside edge and Shai gathers this behind the stumps. Jayden Seales has heard something and convinces the skipper to send this upstairs. Hope asks for review, though he seems to be a bit reluctant. UltrEdge shows a spike as the ball passes the bat and Young has to walk back. An excellent review from the Windies. New Zealand are 46/3, needing 143 runs.
Edged behind or not? Seales is extremely confident about that. Hope, not that much but he trusts his bowler and goes up for a review for caught behind. UltraEdge comes up with a spike. In fact, that's a massive spike. Wonder how Hope didn't manage to detect it.

Matthew Forde To Nick Kelly OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Forde has spring in his steps as he gets his second wicket. Almost a replica of how Nathan Smith dismissed Greaves in the first innings. Just a bit fuller and around off, shaping away while holding on the surface as well. Nick Kelly is half-forward and pushes at it. But he is a bit early on his shot and ends up chipping it low to the bowler's right. Matthew Forde is alert enough. He bends low to his right on the follow-through and plucks it nicely, just inches above the ground with both hands. No one can stop him as he off for a sprint and brings out the salute once again. A direct hit at the bowling end, but Young is safe! Full length, on the stumps. Will Young flicks it to the mid-wicket region where the fielder gets a bad bounce and the ball gets parried off his left hand to mid on. Young is off for a quick single and the fielder, Carty, collects the ball and scores a bullseye at the bowling end, but Young has made it through safely. The ball ricochets off the stump and rolls to the off side but both batters have run too far at their respective ends and decide not to take a risk on the overthrow. So they settle with a single only. There's an umpire's review for a run out at the bowling end, but Young is in comfortably before the stumps are hit.

A big appeal for LBW, but nothing doing. West Indies do not take the review. Angles the ball into the batter, on a fractionally fuller length, with some bounce. Nick Kelly gets across to defend but plays all around it and is hit on the thigh pad. Probably it is a bit too high to take the review.
