Goodbye from Manchester - That's a wrap from an absorbing contest. Sri Lanka just edged past Scotland, who once again came agonisingly close but bow out of the World Cup with plenty to be proud of after a series of spirited performances. The action continues with a triple-header on Saturday, 27th June. It all begins with Pakistan taking on Netherlands at 9.30 am GMT. That will be followed by the clash between West Indies and Ireland at 1.30 pm GMT, with the Windies needing just a win to seal a semi-final spot. Any other result could open the door for Sri Lanka or New Zealand. The final game of the day sees New Zealand face hosts England at 5.30 pm GMT, with England already through to the semi-finals from Group B. As always, you can join us well before the first ball for all the build-up, analysis and team news. Until then, take care and goodbye!
The victorious skipper of Sri Lanka Women - Chamari Athapaththu begins by congratulating Scotland on the way they played. She says her side played good cricket but admits she is disappointed with the batting performance. She feels her side did not handle pressure well and says they need to improve significantly with the bat going forward. Mentions that she came out with the intent of boosting the team's net run rate, but unfortunately, could not carry on after her aggressive start. She also praises Nilakshika Silva and a few others for their efforts in the field before adding that, at the end of the day, the team simply needs to improve its cricket in all departments. Athapaththu says reaching the semifinals was the team's target, but admits the defeat to West Indies proved costly. On her own future, Athapaththu says whether she features at the 2028 T20 World Cup will depend on both her performances and fitness.
The captain of Scotland Women - Kathryn Bryce says a Super Over did cross her mind and felt a couple of dot balls could have changed everything. She admits the defeat is heartbreaking, especially with Scotland finding themselves in winning positions in three matches without managing to get over the line. At the same time, she expresses pride in the way the team fought back, particularly through the middle overs after Chamari Athapaththu's innings. She adds that captaining the side has been a valuable learning experience and credits her teammates for their support throughout the tournament. While direct qualification for the 2028 Women's T20 World Cup would have meant a lot, she says Scotland still have plenty of cricket ahead to look forward to. She also heaps praise on Darcey Carter, calling her an unbelievable player who always plays with a smile on her face, and says the team will now focus on what comes next.
Time to hear from the two captains now...
Dropped chances proved costly - Scotland Women were a little inconsistent with the ball early on, offering too many loose deliveries, but Rachel Slater struck early before Katherine Fraser removed the opposition captain in a crucial breakthrough. Captain Kathryn Bryce once again inspired her side with a double strike in the middle overs, while Fraser added another wicket to keep the contest alive. Scotland fought back brilliantly to leave Sri Lanka needing 17 from the final two overs, but a couple of costly dropped catches from Gabriella Fontenla proved decisive as a famous victory slipped agonisingly through their fingers.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Nilakshika Silva wins the award for her valuable unbeaten run-a-ball 21. She also bowled 2 overs and gave away just 12 runs. She says she is proud of both the team's performance and her own contribution. Reflecting on the previous game against West Indies, where she was dismissed early, she says she wanted to stay till the end and finish the chase herself this time. Mentions that she trusted her skills throughout the innings. Shares that she and Kavisha Dilhari spoke about building a partnership, and after Kavisha's dismissal, she knew she had to take responsibility and see the team home.
Scotland posted a fighting total - Earlier in the game, Scotland Women battled their way to a competitive total, with useful contributions throughout the innings. Kathryn Bryce and Darcey Carter played important supporting roles, but it was Sarah Bryce who anchored the innings with a composed unbeaten 47, while Lister's 26 off 17 balls helped push the total beyond the 150-run mark. For Sri Lanka Women, Mithali Ayodhya was once again the standout with two wickets, while Sugandika Kumari and Kavisha Dilhari claimed one apiece. However, they were unable to finish strongly with the ball, conceding valuable runs at the death.
Sri Lanka survive a scare to get over the line - Sri Lanka made a flying start, with captain Chamari Athapaththu setting the tone through a blistering 33 off just 16 balls. However, her dismissal before the end of the Powerplay sparked a collapse as they slipped from 57/2 to 78/4. Hasini Perera and Harshitha Samarawickrama played vital hands to keep the chase alive, while Kavisha Dilhari and Kaushini Nuthyangana chipped in with useful contributions. But it was Nilakshika Silva who held her nerve under pressure, guiding Sri Lanka home with a composed match-winning knock.
Agony and relief at Old Trafford - Heartbreak for Scotland Women! They leave everything out on the field, but it is just not enough. They had their moments throughout the contest and will rue the chances that slipped away, knowing a slightly sharper display could have changed the result. The defeat is even more painful as it also costs them direct qualification for the 2028 T20 World Cup. For Sri Lanka Women, it is a historic achievement as they register three group-stage wins at a Women's T20 World Cup for the first time, although it still looks unlikely to be enough to secure a place in the semi-finals.

Priyanaz Chatterji To Sugandika Kumari
FOUR! Sugandika Kumari has done it for Sri Lanka. Joy for the Asian nation as they win and stay in the hunt for a semifinal berth. Disappointment for Scotland. Nothing wrong with the ball from Priyanaz Chatterji. Attacking the stumps on a good length from around the wicket. Sugandika Kumari makes room for herself and throws her hands at the ball. It goes more off an outside edge, and it races through the vacant short third region for a boundary.
19.4
1
Priyanaz Chatterji To Nilakshika Silva
Tight single. Honing in on the off stump, on a good length. Silva dabs it to backward point, where Gabriella Fontenla gets low to pick the ball up and is quick to get rid of the ball. Sarah Bryce whips the bails off, but Sugandika Kumari has made it in by then. A direct hit was needed there.
3 needed in 3 now. All three results are still possible. Also, Rachel Slater gets cramped up in the middle of her run-up. She tries again but is struggling badly, and the physio is called upon. If Slater can't continue, who will Kathryn Bryce turn to? There is a discussion going on in the middle. Slater is, in fact, walking off in tears, a scene which you don't want to see. It will be Priyanaz Chatterji to finish the final over.
19.3
2
Rachel Slater To Nilakshika Silva
Bowled on a good length, on middle. Nilakshika Silva shuffles across the stumps and plays the scoop over the keeper. The ball does not have enough legs to reach the fence, and Gabriella Fontenla cuts it off after giving chase from short third. A couple for Nilakshika. 3 needed off 3.
19.2
1
Rachel Slater To Sugandika Kumari

PUT DOWN! Gabriella Fontenla shells another chance. This was tougher, though. Full and angled in, on middle. Silva tries to work it across the line with a closed bat face. Slater gets the length wrong as she serves a low full toss, at the sticks. Nuthyangana makes room to go inside out, but does not quite get hold of it. Ailsa Lister moves to her left at extra cover and takes the catch at shoulder height. Sri Lanka Women are now 7 down for 135, needing 17 off 12 balls.

DRINKS BREAK! These two sides continue to trade blows. Scotland are chasing a victory that could secure direct qualification for the next T20 World Cup, while Sri Lanka ideally need to win with room to spare to give their net run rate a boost in their semifinal push. Just over a run a ball is required, and with two experienced heads out in the middle, a lot rests on them to get Sri Lanka over the line. Every time Sri Lanka have threatened to build some momentum, Scotland have hit back, and they will know a wicket or two here could put the pressure right back on the chasing side.

Katherine Fraser To Harshitha Samarawickrama
FOUR! Harshitha Samarawickrama is away. A bit too short and wide on off. Samarawickrama hops back and slaps it to the left of the point fielder for a boundary.
DRINKS! Scotland Women have removed the threat of Chamari Athapaththu and they will feel that they can build on this and put pressure on the Lankan middle order, which has struggled in this tournament. Sri Lanka Women have the platform set for this chase, but they will have to bat well and smartly in the middle overs and it will be a good challenge for someone other than the skipper to step up. Also, Harshitha Samarawickrama comes out to the middle.

Katherine Fraser To Chamari Athapaththu OUT!
OUT! TIMBER! Katherine Fraser gets the big fish. A huge moment in the game. Brave of Fraser to toss it up, fuller and on middle. Athapaththu clears the front leg, puts her head down and swings through the line. The ball lands and straightens just enough to go past the outside edge, and it clatters into the middle stump. A disconsolate Chamari makes the slow walk back. Sri Lanka Women are now 57/2, chasing 152 runs.
