Inn Break
Disappointment for one Team In Green - Under helpful conditions, Ireland Women could not quite make use of those to earn a win. How will the next Team In Green learn from the former's mistakes? It is a big clash coming up as the finalists of the last three editions of the Women's World Cup (2023 T20, 2024 T20 and 2025 ODI) - South Africa Women - take on the 12-time champions in Women's World Cups (T20Is and ODIs) - Australia Women. The first ball is scheduled to be bowled at 1.30 pm GMT, but our buildup has already begun. Do hop over to that matchcentre for all the action. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
We left a few runs out there - That's the honest admission of the victorious skipper of Scotland Women, KATHRYN BRYCE, who now comes up for her second interview. On being asked about what flipped the game for them, Bryce says that the temperature favoured the Scots and that is the reason they played their suitable cricket. On top of that, she adds that they have had some great results before coming to the World Cup stage, and she reckons that gave them the morale boost. The next question is about defending a score at Old Trafford, so, how did they manage? To this question, Bryce replies that their bowling unit did exactly what they needed to do and their fielding department was upto the mark as well. On the upcoming games, she says that there are some big matches coming up for them, and they will have to get ready.
Hard to pinpoint any one stage - The captain of Ireland Women, GABY LEWIS, manages a brave smile. Sportingly says that Scotland Women played better cricket. Asked first about her team's bowling, Lewis admits that they let things slip in the middle period. Adds that Ireland Women got a good start in the Powerplay but it slipped away in the middle stage. Credits Scotland for playing really well. On the reason for the chase faltering, Gaby does not want to pinpoint any one particular stage. Details that her side finished very well with the ball and the momentum was with the Irish. But maybe, she feels that if her batters had got a good start in the Powerplay, then the team might have done better. But still, she feels it very hard to point at any one stage of the chase for the loss. On the message to the unit after this loss, GL says that it is a long tournament. Adds that the players still believe that they can win games and qualify for the next stage. Calls it as hard luck for this match but stresses that they will keep their heads high and try to bounce back.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - KATHRYN BRYCE. No surprises. She led from the front and steered her team's ship to calmer waters. Bowled a frugal spell with the ball too. Bryce starts off sharing her emotion after getting their first-ever win in this big World Cup stage. She says that she is feeling outstanding and also thanks the crowd for travelling all the way to support them. On being asked about her partnership with sister Sarah, she reckons that their running between the wickets was very good, as the outfield was slow and it helped them keep the scoreboard ticking. On her personal strokeplay, she says that she is pleased that everything worked well in this match and she also hopes that they will deliver this kind of performance in the upcoming matches as well. She ends up giving a message to the fans and thanks them for their support throughout the match.
Lucky toss to lose? Seems like it. Before this match, Old Trafford had a 100 percent success record for chasing teams in Women's T20s. And with the conditions being overcast, Ireland Women's decision to bowl first seemed to stretch that record even further. But some sloppy fielding and courageous batting in the middle overs took the momentum away from Ireland. They did restrict Scotland to 161 but that could have easily been around 130-140. And in the run chase, the pitch slowed up a touch with spin playing a major role. The Bryce sisters were the one who steered the momentum towards their side. For Ireland Women, Ava Canning did well with her 3 wickets, which also included a double-wicket 19th over in a stunning death-over bowling display.
Tentative footwork - Unfortunate case it was, for Ireland Women. They were never quite comfortable against spin, struggling to read the ball from the hand. Amy Hunter was excellent against the new ball but only Orla Prendergast showed decent footwork against spin. The rest of the batters just caved in, with only three batters reaching double digits in the top 7.
Immaculate spin - Scotland Women read the surface beautifully. Only 1 wicket went to spin in the first innings. But in the run chase, Katherine Fraser and Kirstie Gordon choked the Irish batters, with combined figures of 8-0-35-6! There was a little bit of hold on the pitch, but it was more about Ireland Women unable to use their feet, which resulted in so many wickets falling to spin. The others were decent too, with the key thing being that the Scots never allowed the Irish to attack much at any stage of the match.
First is always sweet - Definitely. Because the first is something which can never be overwritten. Ever. Scotland Women gain their maiden win in Women's World Cups and it has come over their arch rivals, Ireland Women. The Scots did come into this contest with three wins on the trot over the Irish but to gain that fourth win in succession in a World Cup match is massively inspiring. They get their first points of the World Cup in their first match of their second edition. Congratulations!

Kathryn Bryce To Aimee Maguire OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT! There it is. The Scottish players are jumping and hugging each other as they have created history by winning their first-ever match in World Cups. Kathryn Bryce scoots over the wicket and delivers a slower delivery on a good length, pitching it just outside off and angling in a shade. Aimee Maguire rocks back and flicks it uppishly, but as the ball has no pace, it loops toward deep square leg. Gabriella Fontenla is the fielder who runs to her right and takes a nice catch. SCOTLAND WOMEN BEAT IRELAND WOMEN BY 40 RUNS!
Final over of the match. A mere formality for Scotland Women as their first World Cup win is on the cards. Kathryn Bryce will finish things off. 3-0-19-1 so far.

Katherine Fraser To Cara Murray OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Second wicket in the over and Ireland Women are 9 down now. Full, on middle, Cara Murray looks to just work it back down the ground but plays a bit too early. Ends up chipping it straight back. The ball does dip onto the bowler but Fraser does well to go down and take a decent catch. Katherine Fraser finishes with magnificent bowling figures of 4-0-19-3. Ireland Women are 113/9.

Katherine Fraser To Ava Canning OUT!
OUT! KELLY IS RUN OUT! Scotland Women are cruising away toward their win. Flatter and fuller, on off and middle. Ava Canning drills it back to the bowler. Fraser gets low but fails to stop it completely. The ball deflects off toward mid off. The batter tries to collect a brace after taking the single, but Kathryn Bryce charges from the deep and has a shy at the bowler's end. Fraser grabs the throw and dislodges the stumps, with Kelly not even in the frame when she returns to her end.

Rachel Slater To Orla Prendergast OUT!
OUT! ORLA PRENDERGAST IS RUN OUT! There was possibly no two there but given the required rate, Prendergast had to take the risk. Slower ball, on a length, around middle, Orla Prendergast pulls it wide of long on, to her right and calls for two. She takes the first run quickly but the fielder is very quick to the ball as well. Returns the ball when Orla is not even halfway for the second and the result is an easy run out at the keeper's end. Good throw by Darcey Carter to make things easy for Sarah Bryce. The 38-run stand is broken and Ireland Women are 108/7, needing another 54 runs from 20 balls.

4
Rachel Slater To Orla Prendergast
FOUR MORE! That is really cheeky. Prendergast backs away and comes down the track and on seeing that, Slater bowls it very close to the batter. But Prendergast adjusts well and dabs it through the vacant slip region to the deep third fence! Prendergast moves to 32 (22).

6
Rachel Slater To Orla Prendergast
SIX! Nicely done. Slater comes around the wicket and takes the pace off, but the line is way down the leg side and the length is short too. Orla Prendergast casually gets across and pull-helps it over square leg for the first six of the chase. 100 is up for Ireland Women and they now need another 59 runs from 22 balls. The stand moves to 33 (20) as well.

Rachel Slater To Arlene Kelly
Full, around off, slower through the air, Arlene Kelly looks to slog but gets it off the inner half of the bat towards deep mid-wicket. Just a single.
Questionable decision from Kathryn Bryce to give a new bowler the 16th over. Make no mistake, Scotland Women are way ahead in this game, but when you have the opportunity to win by a massive margin, you should take it, especially with DLS slated to play a massive role in this tournament. Rachel Slater is back on. 2-0-3-0 so far.

Nearly the hat-trick! What a ball. Flighted, outside off, from around the wicket, pretty full, Orla Prendergast lunges to jab at it but the ball pitches and then spins past the outside edge. The keeper collects the ball but before she can take the bails off, Prendergast gets back in.
DRINKS BREAK. Horrifying 15 minutes for Ireland Women. They were just about trying to get in terms of the chase but it has become totally derailed. It is all upto Orla Prendergast but even by her own standards, this seems to be too tall a mountain to climb. A required rate of around 15 an over, with just 4 wickets left. Right then. Hat-trick ball. We witnessed the first century of the edition on Day 1. Will Day 2 give us the first hattrick as well?

OUT! BOWLED! The Irish middle order is completely dismantled here. 3 wickets in the over and 4 in the span of 9 balls! Full and straight, Alice Tector lunges to defend but just misses a straight ball. It lands, goes right between bat and pad and hits the timber! Just like that Gordon is on a hat-trick! DRINKS BREAK. Ireland Women's 31/1 plays Scotland Women's 37/2 at the same stage. Nothing much to choose between the sides right now. It is from here though, that the Bryce sisters took over and changed the tempo. The Irish have not quite managed to get the new ball away, but crucially, have not thrown it away either. The required rate is above 9 now, but with wickets in hand, it is doable. It will be interesting to see how do the Scots respond with the slightly older ball now. Ireland lost their way but the Scots cannot.

Misses out! Dropped short by Gordon, at the hips. Hunter swivels for the pull. Fine leg and square leg are up inside the circle but Amy picks out the square leg fielder.
Final over of the Powerplay. Scotland Women have done okayish so far, not letting Ireland Women run away through the fielding restrictions. The required run rate has crept up close to 9 now. At the same stage, Scotland were 35/1. Aha. Here comes a player who represented England in the 2018 T20 World Cup - Kirstie Gordon - this time, for a different team.

Full and angled away. Hunter reaches out but mistimes the drive to mid off.
They are hurting. We are not talking about the Scots or the Irish. We are talking about the Aussies as the camera casually pans onto some new entrants to the ground. It is not a spectator or any group of such. It is the Aussie team making its way to the ground, for its practice session. They play South Africa here, right after this match. They have not won an ICC trophy since 2023 and as far as their own expectations are concerned, it is a massive blip. Co-incidentally, their fall has coincided with the retirement of Meg Lanning.

Kathryn Bryce To Alana Dalzell OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! What a catch that is from Kathryn Bryce. She had a great time with the bat, but now she is delivering with the ball as well. She bowls this fuller, onto the stumps. Alana Dalzell lunges to drive it down the ground, but ends up chipping it back to the bowler. Kathryn Bryce, while completing her followthrough, extends her right hand and the ball just sticks into her palm like a magnet. Ireland Women lose their first wicket with just 7 runs on the board.
