South Africa beat West Indies by 7 wickets
That's a wrap, folks! Just one more game to go before both South Africa and West Indies take off for the T20 World Cup in India/Sri Lanka. The series is well and done, and for the first time since early 2024, the Proteas have managed to win a bilateral T20I series. They are peaking at the right time, but the Windies too have a few in-form players but need more of a team effort going forward. The third and final T20I will be played at the iconic Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday, 31 January. It will be a 'Pink Day' at the Wanderers, which means the hosts will be seen in their changed stripes as they raise awareness for breast cancer. The game will begin at 4 pm GMT, but you can join us a lot sooner for the build-up as well. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Aiden Markram, the captain of South Africa - Markram says it was special to watch Quinton de Kock. He did what he always does. Rickelton went a bit under the radar but did the job for the team. Expresses that they have the idea of how their batting line-up will look and he is happy with the options he has. Tells it was important to get a good start while chasing such a huge score. Admits Maharaj deserves a lot of credit for staying economical when the opposition has scored more than 200. On the next match, Markram hopes for a good wicket and hopes they'll fine-tune their bowling and fielding in the final game before heading for the World Cup.
Shai Hope, the captain of West Indies - Hope starts by calling the batting effort decent and feels that they were slightly under-par. Does mention that they generally batted well and it was good to see Hettie back in form. Reckons that it is all about building momentum ahead of the momentum and they need to just make a few tweaks here and there. Further adds that when the execution isn't there, quality players won't let it go unpunished. Mentions that with the two left-handers out in the middle, Roston Chase had to come on and hence, they held Akeal Hosein back. Ends by reiterating that they want to keep fighting and win every game, but it's all about the formula that will help them in the World Cup.
Player of the Match is Quinton de Kock (115 off 49 balls) - QDK says it was fun to bat in Proteas colours and on the familiar wicket of Centurion. Admits that there was no chat between him and Rickelton. They just padded up, walked out to bat and did the job. Mentions that when chasing a big total, it's important to get off a good start. On Rickelton, QDK says he is getting used to batting at number 3, and hopes this innings helps his confidence, leading to the upcoming World Cup. Admits that he left his bat at home today and used Dewald Brevis' bat for this knock. Laughs and says it worked out well.
Time for the post-match Presentations...
Unanswered questions - West Indies' middle-order batter, Rovman Powell, mentioned before the start of the game that they needed to set a platform with the bat and do well in all three facets of the game. Well, the batting was pretty solid for a large part, but the other two facets - bowling and fielding - have a big question mark against them. Matthew Forde and Akeal Hosein were the only ones who showed any signs of promise with the ball and the ground fielding was very average.
Sometimes, lightning does strike twice - It was here in Centurion, in the final week of March 2023, that the Proteas pulled off one of the most miraculous run chases, as they chased 259 runs with 7 balls to spare. And, it has happened all over again. The total was a bit less, but it was yet again Quinton de Kock's sublime century that was the cornerstone of victory. Ryan Rickelton showed why he is dubbed as the successor of QDK, and the master and the apprentice put on a show for the ages.
Sealing the series in style - The Proteas have flexed their muscles yet again with the bat and they have now notched up 401 runs across the last two games, all while losing just 4 wickets and taking just 35.2 overs to get those runs. The signs are ominous for West Indies and they need to get their act together as there will be plenty of high-scoring pitches in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Akeal Hosein To Quinton de Kock OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT! Finally, West Indies manage to get rid of Quinton de Kock but it hardly matters now. What a knock, what entertainment from the southpaw and rightly so, he gets a big round of applause from everyone inside the stadium. Akeal Hosein takes a bit of pace off here and floats it wide outside off. De Kock steps out and goes chasing after it but the bat turns in his hand. The ball gets sliced over the cover region, where Brandon King takes a few steps back and pouches it. QDK departs after a scintillating 115 off just 49 balls.

Akeal Hosein To Quinton de Kock

Akeal Hosein To Quinton de Kock
SIX! Quinton de Kock puts on his dancing shoes and puts it away for another maximum. Dragged length outside off, QDK comes down the track, holds his shape and wallops it over deep mid-wicket for a biggie.
Oh, wait! One of the floodlights at SuperSport Park has gone out. This will give the West Indies a chance to regroup, as only 45 runs are needed in 36 balls. The power is back. Will this break South Africa's momentum? Let's find out.

SIX! Wow, what a way to notch up a HUNDRED from Quinton de Kock. Fullish length on the pads, de Kock picks it up and plays that classic flick up and over deep square leg for a maximum. A 2nd T20I ton here at SuperSport Park for QDK and a second one against West Indies as well. He's back, alright!

DRINKS BREAK! Well, we all know what happened last time when these two teams played each other in Centurion and today seems to be no different. A big score on the board by West Indies but South Africa seem to be making lightwork of it. They need exactly 100 more runs in the last 10 overs to seal the series. The Windies need wickets and they need them in a heap. Let's see if the tide can turn in the final 10 overs. Also, Akeal Hosein comes into the attack now.

Matthew Forde To Quinton de Kock
That's a solid effort from Shimron Hetmyer in the end. Hard length outside off, Quinton de Kock glides it wide of short third and the fielder inside the ring jogs after the speeding ball. But Hetmyer runs to his right from deep backward point and puts in a big dive to save two runs for his side.

Matthew Forde To Aiden Markram OUT!
OUT! TAKEN! Matthew Forde is absolutely pumped and he should be, as he sends the Protea captain packing. Forde serves it a tad short and angles it into the body. Aiden Markram gets his hands out in front, probably a bit too much and ends up snatching at the pull shot. The ball travels flat and to the left of deep backward square leg, where Shimron Hetmyer just about manages to pouch it. Markram departs for 15 (12).
