Punjab Kings beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 6 wickets
Just the start of the weekend - We have reached the end of another high-scoring and high-octane clash but it's just the first one of the weekend, there are three more to go. To round off Saturday, the 11th of April, we head down south, to Chennai, where the Super Kings are looking for their first win of the season, up against Delhi Capitals, who are looking to bounce back after their first loss of the season as well. The Capitals have opted to BOWL first in that game, which is about to start in a few minutes. You can simply switch tabs and tune in to our coverage of that contest. Cheers!
POTM - Shreyas Iyer! The Punjab Kings skipper, Shreyas Iyer, is awarded the accolade for his game-clinching knock of 69 unbeaten off 33 balls. Iyer says that it was very pleasing to watch how the openers batted in the Powerplay and he decided to take his time as the foundation was laid. Mentions that it was Shashank Singh himself who asked to bowl, and during the Strategic Break, he conferred with the coach Ricky Ponting, who also went for it. Kudos to Shashank for showing that responsibility and executing his plans as well. Adds that you need to have the right mentality heading into these big run chases, which is not a problem with their openers and hopes that the others also continue in the same way. He further adds that the players are working hard and the two days off they had after the previous game also helped. Ends by saying that a lot of credit also goes to their coach Ricky Ponting and last year they were so close to lifting the trophy, and this year they want to get their hands on it.
... The post-match Presentation ceremony ...
Let's quickly recap the first innings - After being put into bat, the devastating duo of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head had a day out in the middle. They amassed an astonishing 105 runs in the Powerplay before things started to go downhill. Out of ideas, Shreyas Iyer threw the ball to part-timer Shashank Singh and his gentle medium pacers turned the game on its head. He sent back both set openers and the Kings capitalized.
The Kings' Assistant Coach shares his thoughts - Brad Haddin says that he is glad he is not a bowler in the first six overs. Adds that they remained pretty calm after the Powerplay and executed their plans well in the middle overs, pulling the game back. Mentions that there has been some phenomenal hitting this season, but he has not seen such destruction in the first six overs as he saw in this game. Shares that the key is to keep their mind clear and try to pick up wickets in the Powerplay, which they managed to do against KKR. Says that you need to be brave when batters are looking to take you on in the first six overs, and just try to gain the momentum back and try to control things from there. Ends by saying that they are getting the results, but haven't had a complete game yet but they will keep on improving as the league enters the middle phase.
Back-to-back defeats for the Orange Army - Another game that Sunrisers Hyderabad could have easily panned out differently, but they only have themselves to blame as they didn't play the big moments well, just like in their last game against LSG and they now have just one win from their opening four matches. 219 wasn't what they would have liked, especially given the start they had with the bat, but it was still a more than decent total on this pitch. However, their bowlers didn't take any pointers from the first innings and were put away with ease inside the Powerplay. Left-arm wrist-spinner Shivang Kumar then came in and gave them real hope as he picked up 3 wickets, but the pacers just couldn't get a grip on the game and they were blown away with ease.
Let's now hear from the Sunrisers' skipper- Ishan Kishan says that they could have batted well in the middle and gotten to something around 250. Adds that Punjab batted well in the Powerplay, but they (SRH) didn't execute their plans that well. Mentions that he thought 219 was a decent score on this wicket, and with 5-6 bowlers in your side, you back yourself but it just didn't go their way. Shares that you don't plan much in modern T20 cricket, they tried to use the longer boundary but it again comes down to execution and planning, which cost them a lot of runs and ultimately the game.
Riding high on confidence - Chasing 220 for the win, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh started in familiar fashion, getting PBKS off to a flier, notching up 93 runs in the Powerplay. Similar to the first innings, things started to change after the Powerplay and the batters lost a bit of rhythm after the Strategic Break. The opening stand was broken when the score was 99, and then PBKS were 128/3 at one stage, with both openers having scored a fifty each. However, skipper Shreyas Iyer took the game by the scruff of the neck and powered his side to victory, remaining unbeaten on 69 off just 33 balls as Shashank Singh added the finishing touches.
The unbeaten run continues - Punjab Kings make it three wins out of three (completed matches) and remain the only other unbeaten team besides Rajasthan Royals in the 2026 season of the IPL. It was a clinical showing with the bat, and the Kings have now picked up 7 points in 4 matches to stay in touching distance with the top spot in the table. Punjab Kings become the first team to chase down a total of 200 or more 10 times in the IPL, beating their own record of 9 successful chases before this one. It was a clinical show with the bat as 3 out of their top 4 batters went on to score a half-century. Most 200-plus targets successfully chased in the IPL - 1. Punjab Kings - 10*, 2. Mumbai Indians - 6, 3. Rajasthan Royals - 5, 4. Royal Challengers Bengaluru - 4, 5. Sunrisers Hyderabad - 4.

Strategic Break! With that massive 18-run over, Punjab Kings will feel they are ahead in the chase now. Shreyas Iyer is batting like a dream, and this time he will want to stay there and finish the job himself. It looks like a mountain to climb for Sunrisers Hyderabad, and the only way for them is to pick up 2-3 wickets very quickly. Also, Eshan Malinga (2-0-28-0) is back on.

Priyansh Arya lives by the sword and dies by it, too. Out walks Cooper Connolly at number 3 for Punjab.

Shivang Kumar To Priyansh Arya OUT!
OUT! TAKEN! Shivang Kumar gets a big breakthrough for his team. Once again, we see a wicket fall right after the strategic break. This is a googly, full and on middle, turns in a bit. Priyansh Arya clears his front leg to slog it away again. However, due to the inward spin, the ball takes the inside half of the bat. It flies straight towards deep mid-wicket, where Nitish Kumar Reddy takes a fine catch. End of a fine knock from Arya, and PBKS are 99/1, chasing a target of 220.

Shivang Kumar To Priyansh Arya
SIX! Field restrictions lifted? Does not matter for Priyansh Arya. Shivang Kumar drags his length back and around middle. Arya rocks back and heaves it away. He does not connect it from the middle but gets enough power to clear deep mid-wicket for a biggie.
STRATEGIC BREAK! After the first 6 overs, SRH were 105/0 and PBKS have almost matched it at 93/0, with both Powerplay totals being absolutely unbelievable. The importance of the first 6 overs on a pitch that slows down considerably is so high and now it will be interesting to see how the PBKS openers operate when the fielding restrictions are over and the ball is getting slightly old. The Sunrisers will be desperate for a wicket but for now, PBKS are in cruise control. 127 needed off 84 balls. Also, Shivang Kumar comes on to bowl right after the Powerplay.

Swing and a miss! Harshal Patel takes pace off, lands this short of a length and on middle. Priyansh Arya backs away and throws the kitchen sink at it but misses due to the lack of pace and the ball just goes over the stumps. A rare dot ball.

Harshal Patel To Priyansh Arya
FOUR! FIFTY FOR ARYA! Absolute carnage from the young southpaw to bring up his first half-century of the season and in just 16 balls. His fastest in the IPL as well. This is full again and on middle. Priyansh Arya stays deep inside his crease and lofts it over mid on for four more runs.

SIX! Welcome to the game, Harshal Patel! He serves this fuller and outside off, angling away. Priyansh Arya extends his arms and carves it over extra covers. There is a fielder in the deep but he only watches it sail over his head for a biggie.
Harshal Patel to bowl the last over of Powerplay.

Eshan Malinga To Prabhsimran Singh
Excellent piece of fielding but that throw nearly costs SRH a few extra runs. Very full, around off, Singh goes deep in the crease and laces the cover drive. Nitish Kumar Reddy at cover, dives to his right and manages to save a certain boundary. NKR tries to be a bit aggressive and has a shy at the keeper's end but the ball flies over the batter's head, and thankfully for SRH, there is a fielder backing up at short fine leg.

DROPPED! A tough chance off your own bowling, but Jaydev Unadkat will feel he should have caught it. Slower ball, pitched up on off stump, Singh drives it back but does so uppishly. Unadkat reacts well on the follow-through and gets both hands up over his head, but the ball bursts through the hands and rolls towards mid on. The batters get a single.

A length ball on off, angling away, Singh gets onto the front foot and drives it straight to mid off.
Seems like the ball has been lost behind the sight screen. Out comes the briefcase, and the on-field umpires select a replacement. All good to go again. Also, the keeper is stadning up to the stumps now.

A flying start for PBKS. Jaydev Unadkat will share the attack.

A big shout for LBW, turned down. Quick and full, darted across from off stump. Priyansh Arya gets a stride across to sweep but misses and gets rapped on the pads. The bowler and the captain have a chat and Ishan Kishan does review it. The third umpire comes into play and there's nothing on UltraEdge. Ball Tracking shows that the ball was going straight with the angle and away from the stumps. NOT OUT!
