Bangladesh beat Pakistan by 6 wickets
Najmul Hossain Shanto collects the trophy and joins his teammates for the celebrations. With this, a thoroughly engrossing Bangladesh tour of Pakistan has come to an end. Bangladesh will now head home before embarking on their tour of India, where they will play two Tests later this month, followed by three T20Is. As for Pakistan, they have a comparatively longer break, with their next assignment scheduled in October when England will visit for a three-match Test series. However, there's still plenty of action this week. The three-match T20I series between Scotland and Australia kicks off on 4th September, and the third Test between England and Sri Lanka commences on 6th September. It's goodbye for now. Cheers!
The skipper of Bangladesh, Najmul Hossain Shanto expresses immense pride and happiness after winning the series, stating that it means a lot to the team and is beyond words. He praises the pacers for their impressive performance and hard work, highlighting their dedication to winning games for the team. Shanto also commends Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan for their brilliant batting and hopes they continue to take responsibility in future matches. Looking ahead to the next series against India, he acknowledges the importance of experienced players like Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan and is confident in their continued efforts.
The captain of Pakistan, Shan Masood expresses extreme disappointment and says that the team was excited for the home season  He mentions that the same problems that plagued them in Australia have resurfaced and feels that they have not learned their lessons. States that they played good cricket but not getting the job done is an area that needs improvement. He also points out that this has happened four times during his tenure, where they allowed the opposing team back into the contest after being in a dominant position. He opines that Test cricket demands a different level of fitness. Further says that the decision to play four fast bowlers in the first Test was based on concerns about managing the workload with just three bowlers. He notes that the first innings score of 274 was solid, but acknowledges that he and Saim Ayub could have added more runs, similar to Litton Das. Feels that it’s not all doom and gloom, as there are always lessons to be learned.
Mehidy Hasan is the PLAYER OF THE SERIES for his stellar all-round contributions across the series. He says that he is really happy to have gotten a Player of the Series award for the first time outside the country. Feels that it is a tough job playing as all-rounder but he is happy to do the job for the team. He acknowledges the challenge of batting at number 8 but enjoys partnering with experienced players like Litton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim. Miraz is proud of achieving a five-wicket haul and aims to improve further. Reflecting on his absence from the T20 World Cup, he credits the support staff for their constant backing and appreciates his supportive teammates.
Litton Das is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his superb ton. He says that he just believed in himself during a challenging spell of bowling from Pakistan. Tells that he and Mehidy Hasan focused on batting long, and once Mehidy hit a four and a six, the momentum began to shift in their favour.  Adds that when Hasan Mahmud came to the crease, his aim was to play as many overs as possible. Lauds Hasan for his excellent support at the other end. Mentions that he enjoys keeping in Tests and when he performs well behind the stumps, it positively impacts the team's overall performance. States that the situation back home wasn't up to the mark, but they came here and practised hard.
Time for the presentation ceremony...
Hasan Mahmud is in for a chat next. He praises his team's effort, highlighting their hard work and dedication throughout the series. He commends the fast bowlers for actively seeking wickets and putting in the effort. Hasan emphasizes the importance of fast bowlers capitalizing on opportunities and the need for continuous hard work, especially in red-ball cricket. He also notes the significance of fast bowlers and spinners combining their efforts to succeed.
Litton Das is up for a chat. He says that he is very happy and satisfied with the result and it has been a very good show of character from the entire side. Gives credit to Mehidy Hasan for batting the way he did. He ends by saying that it has been a good outing for the entire team and the way they have played in both the Test matches, shows real growth on their part.
The Test match began with a washout on Day 1 due to persistent rain, preventing any play. Day 2 saw clear skies, and Bangladesh won the toss, opting to bowl first. Pakistan had a shaky start with Abdullah Shafique falling early, but fifties from Saim Ayub and Shan Masood stabilized the innings. Despite their efforts, the middle order struggled to capitalize, and it was Agha Salman's 54 that guided Pakistan to a total of 274. Mehidy Hasan was the standout for Bangladesh, claiming a five-wicket haul. In reply, Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan survived unscathed to close the day out for Bangladesh.
Day 3 brought drama as Bangladesh crumbled to 26/6 in the morning session, with Khurram Shahzad and Mir Hamza wreaking havoc. However, a historic 165-run partnership between Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz for the seventh wicket brought Bangladesh back into the game. Never before had Test cricket witnessed a seventh-wicket partnership of 150 or more runs after the first 6 wickets had fallen for 30 runs or less. Mehidy fell for 78, but Litton went on to score a century, and with Hasan Mahmud's support, Bangladesh posted 262, just 12 runs behind Pakistan's total. Khurram Shahzad shone for Pakistan with a six-wicket haul, but Pakistan faltered again, ending the day at 9/2 with a slim lead of 21 runs.
On Day 4, Pakistan began positively with Shan Masood and Saim Ayub looking promising. However, Taskin Ahmed's breakthrough initiated a collapse, and Nahid Rana compounded Pakistan's woes. Mohammad Rizwan and Agha Salman attempted to rebuild after lunch, but Hasan Mahmud struck twice, dismissing Rizwan and leaving Salman to battle with the tail. Salman's unbeaten 47-run knock gave Pakistan something to bowl at as they folded for 172, setting Bangladesh 185 runs for victory. Hasan Mahmud was the star of the show with a maiden five-wicket haul in just his third Test, while Nahid Rana claimed four wickets. With the bat, Zakir Hasan set the tone in the chase, helping Bangladesh score at a brisk rate before bad light and subsequent rain brought an end to the day's play.
Earlier, Bangladesh began their day, needing 143 more runs to win with all ten wickets intact. Pakistan's bowlers were disciplined from the start, making the visitors work hard for every run. The morning session saw a couple of key breakthroughs that briefly energized the hosts and gave them hope. However, they struggled to build on those breakthroughs. Mominul Haque played a crucial role in taking the pressure off Najmul Hossain Shanto by rotating the strike effectively. Consequently, Shanto was able to settle into his innings and score more freely. After setting up the chase, Mominul and Shanto both fell after the Lunch break, but the experienced duo of Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim brought much-needed calmness to the middle. Their composed presence ensured that Bangladesh got the job done without any further hiccups, sealing a historic victory.
History has been made in Rawalpindi, again! Bangladesh have completed a series whitewash against Pakistan for the first time in Test cricket. Coming into the series without a single Test win against Pakistan, they have now won two in a row to inflict a whitewash over their Asian rivals. This result has catapulted Bangladesh from sixth to fourth place in the World Test Championship standings, leapfrogging South Africa and England. For Pakistan, it's back to the drawing board with much to reflect on, particularly how they let Bangladesh off the hook after reducing them to 26/6 in the first innings.

... DAY 5, SESSION 2 ...
As it stands, Bangladesh are just 63 runs away from completing a historic whitewash over Pakistan. Both Shanto and Haque played a few loose shots, which they will need to avoid as they aim to chase down the target themselves and not leave the task to others. With the pitch beginning to ease out, batting conditions are likely to improve, making it more challenging for Pakistan to create opportunities. Join us back at 7.40 am GMT for what will likely be the final session of the series.
End of a cagey session, one where Bangladesh, despite the early setbacks, inched closer to creating history. As for Pakistan, they knew they needed to tighten up right from the start, and they did start well. Their pacers, Mir Hamza and Khurram Shahzad, executed a game plan of bowling full, which paid off as they created early breakthroughs. With the openers dismissed, Mominul Haque stepped up to relieve some pressure, and Najmul Hossain Shanto despite a nervy start, grew in confidence as the innings progressed. There were moments when Pakistan missed the trick by not having a third slip in place, a major one where Mominul nicked off but it raced away through the vacant third slip which could have made a difference.

The ball just about carries to the keeper, Sarfaraz Ahmed. Would you believe it? The replays have rolled in and the UltraEdge shows a small spike as the ball passes the bottom edge of the bat. Starts well does Ali! Steams in from around the wicket and lands it full to get a hint of inward movement, on the off stump line, Shadman Islam stays rooted in the crease and presents a straight bat to push it down the deck.
All set for the action to commence on the final day. Overcast skies greet the two umpires and players as they head out to the centre. Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam are all set to resume their innings. Mohammad Ali will kickstart proceedings with the red cherry for Pakistan. Three slips and a gully in place. Here we go!
Hasan Mahmud is up for an interview and he talks about his five wickets in the second innings of the match, saying that he is really happy he did it for his country. He further adds that the fast bowling team of Bangladesh has been really kind to him, giving him the experience and the push needed. He further spoke about his partnership with Litton Das in the first innings saying that he was confident enough to carry the bat with Litton and get his team closer to the first innings score. He ends by saying that its a good opportunity for the team to seal the series and they are confident to get the win.
PITCH REPORT - Bazid Khan is near the deck. He notes that Hasan Mahmud got the ball to swing effectively by pitching it up and he made the batters play those deliveries. Feels that Pakistan will need to adopt a similar approach, encouraging the batters to drive. Bazid opines that relying on short balls will not be as effective, instead, consistent full-length deliveries will be key to building pressure.
UPDATE - 4.20 am GMT - Live visuals show overcast skies over the stadium, but there's no rain at the moment as the Pakistan players engage in fielding drills. If the weather holds, we should have a prompt start. Stick around.
Bad light and subsequent rain curtailed play after the Tea interval, but let's hope for better conditions today and a dramatic finish. While overnight rain is expected to persist into the morning, it's anticipated to clear by the afternoon. With Bangladesh needing 143 more runs to clinch the match and the series, Pakistan will be hoping for a spirited bowling performance on what could be a tricky final-day pitch. Can Pakistan mount a comeback and deny Bangladesh a famous victory, or will the visitors complete a rare whitewash on Pakistani soil? All will be revealed on what promises to be an exciting final day, starting at 4.45 am GMT, weather permitting.
Earlier on Day 4, Pakistan resumed their second innings precariously placed at 9/2 and never really recovered, as the Bangladesh pace attack wreaked havoc. Hasan Mahmud was the star of the show, claiming his maiden five-wicket haul in Test cricket, becoming the first Bangladeshi pacer to achieve such a feat on Pakistani soil. His performance, alongside contributions from Nahid Rana and Taskin Ahmed, marked the first time all ten wickets were taken by Bangladesh pacers in a Test innings, as Pakistan were bowled out for 172. Agha Salman and Mohammad Rizwan offered some resistance with a 55-run partnership for the seventh wicket, but it wasn’t enough to set a more formidable target. Rizwan, who was hit on the helmet during his innings of 43, did not return to the field, with Sarfaraz Ahmed taking over the keeping duties.
Hello and welcome to everyone joining us! As we gear up for the final day of this thrilling Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh, all eyes are on the visitors, who stand on the brink of a historic series whitewash. At the close of Day 4, Bangladesh find themselves in a commanding position, needing just 143 more runs with all ten wickets intact to secure a memorable victory. They finished the day strongly at 42/0, with Zakir Hasan leading the charge with a brisk 31 off 23 balls, displaying an aggressive intent that could set the tone for a successful chase.
... DAY 5, FIRST SESSION ...
Right then, an abrupt end to the day but not before we witnessed some entertaining action. Heading into the final day, Bangladesh hold the upper hand with all 10 wickets intact and needing 143 more runs to win. Pakistan, taken aback by the aggressive approach from the openers, will need to strike early on Day 5 to turn the tide. The forecast, unfortunately, does not look promising for the final day, with rain expected to potentially impact play. It will be yet another early start with the first ball on the final day to be bowled at 4.45 am GMT. As always, you can join us earlier for the build-up. See you then. Cheers!
Earlier, as Pakistan began the day with a 21-run lead, Shan Masood and Saim Ayub provided a promising start, getting their side past the first half hour. However, the situation unravelled quickly once this stand was broken. Nahid Rana set the tone up front with three wickets in the first session, and then Hasan Mahmud dashed Pakistan's hopes of recovery with twin strikes. Agha Salman fought a lone battle while batting with the tail to stretch the lead. Despite his efforts, the hosts could only manage 172 runs.
In pursuit of 185 runs, Zakir Hasan started aggressively, taking the attack to the opposition. His brisk start resulted in Bangladesh scoring 37 runs off the 6 overs before Tea to take the wind out of Pakistan's sails. The highlight of the day for Bangladesh was their two young pacers, Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana. In just his third Test, Mahmud secured his maiden five-wicket haul and became the first Bangladeshi pacer to take five wickets or more in Pakistan. Rana also made a significant impact, claiming four wickets and further cementing the visitors' control.
UPDATE - 11.24 am GMT - Unfortunately, folks, we are done for the day. STUMPS have been called on Day 4! The rain has had the final say, and we’ll have to wait until the final day to see how the Test concludes. The third session promised a lot as the players returned to the field with dark clouds in the distance. After just one over, it got extremely dark, and the umpires took a light reading. They deemed the light not good enough and the players had to leave the field.
UPDATE - 10.59 am GMT - The rain gods have finally made their appearance and it's pouring down at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The chances of the game resuming today seem bleak at the moment but let's hope for the best.
UPDATE - 10.41 am GMT - While the square and the playing surface weren’t covered initially, the ground staff have now started to cover the strip and the square. Lightning can also be seen in the distance, and more covers are being brought on as it has gotten even darker.
UPDATE - 10.21 am GMT - Uh oh! It has gotten quite dark, and the two umpires are taking a light reading. They’ve determined that the light is not good enough for play to continue. The players are walking off the field, and the groundsmen are thinking about bringing on the covers as a precaution. There is no rain to be seen at the moment but dark clouds have been around the ground for some time now. We hope that we get to see the play resume in some time, but for now, it's a waiting game.

Welcome back for the third and final session of Day 4. It remains dark at the stadium, with the floodlights still on as the two umpires and players make their way out to the centre. Pakistan are starting with spin in the form of Abrar Ahmed. Shadman Islam is ready to face the first ball. Let's play...
... DAY 4, SESSION 3 ...
Bangladesh came out with the intent of breaking the back of the chase early, and they have started well. This aggressive approach has left Pakistan stunned. When they return after Tea, they will need to find answers quickly to counter Bangladesh's momentum and turn the game in their favour. What hasn’t worked in the hosts' favour is the lack of movement, which was prominent on the morning of Day 3. If the first 6 overs of the Bangladesh chase are anything to go by, we’re in for an exciting ride. Do join us back at 10.15 am GMT for the start of the third session.
Earlier in the session, Mohammad Rizwan and Agha Salman resumed their recovery efforts for Pakistan. Just as Rizwan was settling in, Hasan Mahmud induced a false shot from him. Mahmud’s twin strikes further set Pakistan back, leaving Agha Salman to once again play a crucial role with the tail. He did a decent job, but with little support from the other end, Pakistan eventually ended up with 172 on the board.
Bangladesh have come out firing, haven’t they? Another session that well and truly belonged to Bangladesh in this Test. Chasing 185 runs for victory, the visitors have shown they mean business, with Zakir Hasan leading the charge. He’s batted with intent and authority, while Shadman Islam has looked much more compact than he did in the first innings. With the ball, Hasan Mahmud was the standout performer for the visitors, claiming a five-wicket haul and becoming the first Bangladeshi pacer to achieve this milestone in Pakistan. Nahid Rana also made a significant impact, ending with four wickets to his name.
