India Women Under-19 beat West Indies Women Under-19 by 9 wickets
That wraps up an entertaining double-header in Kuala Lumpur, although both games turned out to be one-sided. Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka comfortably sailed past the tournament debutants Malaysia, while the defending champions, India flexed their muscles to brush aside West Indies. India's dominant victory sees them sitting at the top of Group A after the opening round. The action continues on Monday, January 20, with six games spread across Groups B, C, and D. The day kicks off in Bangi, where Australia face Bangladesh at 2.30 am GMT, followed by a clash in Johor as England take on Pakistan at 6.30 am GMT. As always, our build-up for both games will begin a lot sooner. See you then. Cheers!
Niki Prasad, the skipper of India Women Under-19 says they did well to go out and chase this one down quickly with the drizzle hovering around. Mentions that the confidence after getting runs in different leagues makes it a bit easier on such big stages and appreciates Joshitha V J for the way she bowled. Concludes that they as a team are here to win and play with that mindset every game.
The captain of West Indies Women Under-19, Samara Ramnath says that it was not their day and says that India played really well. Tells that they have the talent in both departments to excel. Feels that if they execute their plans well, they will have a successful tournament.
Joshitha V J is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for her outstanding bowling figures of 2 for 5 from her 2 overs. She says with her pace she looks to get the ball to swing and admires Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Adds that it is a great start and she has been backed well by the team for such performance.
Time for the presentation ceremony...
Trisha G fell on the second ball of the chase, but Sanika Chalke and Kamalini G combined to guide India home in just 4.2 overs. As if the timing couldn’t have been any better, the rain picked up right as the winning runs were scored. Earlier, India won the toss and chose to bowl first under the overcast conditions. Joshitha V J set the tone with a fiery opening spell before the spinners took charge, making life even more difficult for the West Indies batters. Three run-outs compounded the Windies' troubles, and apart from Asabi Callender and Kenika Cassar, no other batter offered significant resistance.
As clinical as it could get! India's title defence is up and running. As for Samara Ramnath and Co., it was a tough day at the office and one they will want to put behind them quickly with a crucial game against Sri Lanka coming up next. With only 45 runs to get, it was more a matter of when than if for India. As dark clouds loomed overhead and the threat of rain increased, they found themselves racing against the weather.

FOUR! Kamalini G has finished the game in two balls and hands West Indies Women Under-19 a big loss. Back of a length again, on leg, Kamalini G swings across and gets a top edge that goes behind the keeper and races away to the fine leg fence for a boundary.

Kenika Cassar To Kamalini G
FOUR! Crunched! Short of a length, on middle, Kamalini G pulls it over mid-wicket for a boundary. Just two runs away and the drizzle has started to pick some pace.
There's a slight drizzle and Kenika Cassar misses her footing more than once. India need just 6 more runs, but we require one more over to constitute a result. Kamalini is visibly frustrated with Cassar taking her time, clearly unhappy with the delay.
