136/8 (20.0/20)
India Women beat Bangladesh Women by 5 wickets
All done in Manchester - The focus now shifts to Bristol for the second game of the day, where the Netherlands take on South Africa. The Dutch have won the toss and opted to bowl first. You can switch tabs and join us there for all the action. Cheers!
The skipper of India Women - Harmanpreet Kaur says that it is a good win. Adds that they wanted to finish it earlier, but still, they got the job done with 2-3 overs to spare. Mentions that fielding is very important, and they are trying to improve but they dropped a few catches in this game. She says they hope to put in a much better fielding performance in the next game. While the team boasts some of the best fielders around, occasional off days are part of the sport. She adds that the focus remains on working hard, taking plenty of catches in training, and ensuring they are in the right positions on the field. Looking ahead, she acknowledges that Australia are one of the toughest opponents they can face. With every game in the tournament carrying huge importance, she believes the team must produce its very best. She feels a win over Australia would provide a massive confidence boost, much like their victory in Navi Mumbai, which helped break barriers and instilled belief within the group.
The captain of Bangladesh Women - Nigar Sultana says they created plenty of chances but failed to take them and allowed India to take the game away. She feels they bowled well but reckons they finished 15-20 runs short with the bat. When asked about the chat during the second drinks break, she says that they believed anything was possible if they kept bowling in the right areas and created opportunities. Believes that success is not just about results and is pleased with how the team continues to grow day by day. Looking ahead, she says playing at Lord's will be a special occasion and hopes Bangladesh can create lasting memories there.
Time to hear from the two captains...
Recap of the first innings - Earlier, India were untidy in the field, to say the least, putting down as many as four catches in the first five overs of the innings. Bangladesh found boundaries hard to come by, but to their credit, they ran hard between the wickets to keep the scoreboard ticking. Useful contributions from Juairiya Ferdous, captain Nigar Sultana and the rest of the batting unit helped them battle their way to 136.
Not all smooth sailing - A strong start was important for India after their sloppy effort in the field, and Shafali Verma ensured there were no early nerves by getting off the blocks quickly and taking control of the chase. She was handed an early reprieve when Nigar Sultana dropped her on 4, and Bangladesh were made to pay. One wonders how differently the chase might have unfolded had the captain held on to that chance. After Shafali's dismissal, India's middle order made much harder work of the chase than they would have liked. There were signs of a batting unit still searching for confidence, particularly with some hesitant running between the wickets.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Shafali Verma has been given the award for her impressive knock of 53 runs from 34 balls. Shafali says that she is very happy with the way she batted in this game. Adds that she would be happier if she stayed unbeaten, but it was good to grab some runs. Mentions that she tried to put the bad balls away, but also rotated strike and played on the merit of the ball. Shafali shares that she was sad with the way she got out. Says that she has been bowling with new and old balls in the nets and credits skipper Harmanpreet Kaur for giving her good fields and showing confidence in her.
India get the job done - It was far from a convincing win, but India will gladly take the two points. Their attention now turns to a must-win clash against Australia. Bangladesh, meanwhile, deserve credit for the way they hung in the game after India flew out of the blocks. They must now beat South Africa in their final group game and hope India lose to Australia to have any chance of reaching the semifinals. Even then, their inferior net run rate leaves them with a mountain to climb.

Sanjida Akter Meghla To Harmanpreet Kaur
Harmanpreet Kaur was gone had the throw hit. Short and on off. Kaur stands tall and dabs it in front of point. Rodrigues calls her through for a single but Kaur is late to respond. Harman had given up but the throw from the point fielder at the bowling end is well wide of the stumps.
DRINKS! Bangladesh Women have pulled things back in the last couple of overs, but one would feel that India Women are still ahead in this chase. With the experienced pair of Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur out there, India will be confident that they will get over the line, but Bangladesh Women almost broke this stand and know that a couple of quick wickets and things will get interesting here. Also, Sanjida Akter Meghla to bowl after the break.

The throw is a bit away from the stumps but Nahida Akter gets low to gather it. She lets it through her legs. There is a fielder to back up the throw and she flicks the ball onto the stumps at the bowling end but Rodrigues gets home with a dive by then.

Rabeya Khan To Richa Ghosh OUT!
OUT! LBW! This looks straight, but Richa Ghosh still goes for the review. Drifting into the right-hander, on a length, on middle. Ghosh gets down on a knee for the sweep but misses it completely. The ball grazes the right shoulder before hitting the crouched back thigh, in front of the stumps. No bat involved, and the Ball Tracking comes up as umpire's call with the ball clipping the top of the middle stump. The on-field call stays. India are now 4 down for 98, requiring 39 more runs.

Nahida Akter To Shafali Verma OUT!
OUT! STUMPED! Great presence of mind from Bangladesh's skipper. Nahida Akter bowls this short and outside off, Shafali Verma looks to cut it away but ends up chopping it off the bottom edge onto the pitch. The ball goes behind and hits the pads of the keeper, but Nigar Sultana collects it on the second attempt. Shafali is not aware where the ball is and steps out of her crease, while Sultana breaks the stumps. Shafali's hand is on her head as she knows she has made a mistake here. DRINKS! 63/1 is India's highest Powerplay score in Women's T20 World Cup history, according to Charles Dagnall. Bangladesh are being made to pay for dropping Shafali Verma in the opening over, and they have been a touch too full and repeatedly fed her scoring arc. India could look to put the foot down even further if they get within touching distance of the target and give their net run rate a healthy boost, which could prove crucial should qualification come down to that. Ritu Moni is back with a change of ends.

Marufa Akter To Smriti Mandhana OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT! Rabeya Khan holds onto it and that will be that for Smriti Mandhana. Floated up there, on off. Mandhana leans onto the drive and plays it crisply but can't keep it down. Rabeya Khan gets low to her left at cover. She grabs hold of the ball before falling to the ground. Mandhana starts to walk off, but is asked to wait as the third umpire is summoned to check the legality of the catch. As Rabeya fell to the ground, she had the ball in her left hand. The third umpire checks a couple of angles, but she has no conclusive evidence to say that the ball came in contact with the ground at the time Rabeya was not in control of her body. She sticks to the on-field call of Out. India Women are 31/1, chasing 137 runs.
Looks like Nigar Sultana has hurt one of the fingers on her right hand. The physio is in and applying some magic spray. Sultana is up and will resume the keeping duties.

FOUR! Untidy by Nigar Sultana. Very full, outside off by Marufa. Mandhana is late in getting her bat down, and it sneaks under the blade. Nigar was moving to her right and was caught wrong-footed. She gets low to make the stop, but the ball clips her fingertips and goes behind. The short third fielder gives chase but in vain. Oh, it has been given as runs by the umpire.
