Oman beat Hong Kong by 12 runs

    Jatinder Singh

So that is from this game! PNG, Ireland, Netherlands, Namibia, Scotland and Oman will join Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the first group stage of the 2020 ICC T20 World Cup. More to come though from this tournament as the semi-finals and the final are still pending along with the 3rd-place and 5th-place playoffs. On Friday, Ireland will face Netherlands in SF1 at 1410 local (1010 GMT) while later at 1930 local (1530 GMT) PNG will lock horns against Namibia in SF2. Do join us for all the action. Cheers!
Oman skipper, Zeeshan Maqsood, says he was worried when they were 42 for 6. He feels they gave their wickets away under pressure but Jatinder Singh and Naseem Khushi were excellent and their partnership was the turning point. Mentions they have one of the best pace attacks and Bilal was exceptional. States everybody bowled well and supported each other. Ends by saying all the hard work of the coaches, families and the players has paid off.
Hong Kong skipper, Aizaz Khan, says it is disappointing they missed out. Admits that they lost the plot in the last five overs with the ball and in the Powerplay with the bat. Further adds they started off well with the ball and in the field but then leaked too many runs at the death.
Man of the Match, Jatinder Singh says he's feeling amazing. Further adds all the hard work by them has paid off. Appreciates the way Bilal Khan bowled and says he was unplayable. Ends by telling that he likes to dig in so that was his aim to stay out there till the end and he thought they could defend 130.
Hong Kong encountered King Kong in Bilal Khan! The left-arm pacer bowled a dream first spell. He along with Fayyaz Butt ran amok and removed the cream of Hong Kong's batting inside the Powerplay. They were 18/5 at one stage and needed someone to stand up and bail them out. Scott McKechnie took the responsibility on himself and formed an alliance with Haroon Arshad. They put together a 50-run stand and Hong Kong were in with a chance. The asking rate was never an issue for them but when McKechnie was trapped in front of the stumps in the 17th over, the writing was on the wall. They carried on to bat for 20 overs but never looked like overhauling the target.
Talk about momentum! Oman were down and out while batting. But Jatinder Singh held one end to stroke a fabulous knock. He combined with Aamir Kaleem to steady the sinking ship and then came the partnership that provided the impetus and momentum. The pair of Jatinder and Naseem Khushi raised a quickfire half century stand to provide respectability to Oman's total. They carried that momentum into their bowling innings and rest, as they say, is history.
Oman have pulled off a heist! Their coach is running in jubilation. The whole Oman squad is charging on the ground. They are in a huddle. Emotions pouring. What a win! Oman are flying to Australia! They are joyous! They are over the moon! What a performance from them! Reduced to 42/6 while batting, who would have thought that they will recover so well to trounce Hong Kong.

Fayyaz Butt To Simandeep Singh OUT!
OUT! In the air... taken! Bilal Khan is the catcher! He is everywhere at the moment. You just can't keep him out of the game. A short one on middle, Singh looks to pull but the bounce gets big on him. He only manages a top edge which goes high up in the air towards short fine leg where Khan takes a dolly. Half the side back in the hut for Hong Kong within 4 overs.

Bilal Khan To Waqas Barkat OUT!
Out? Not out? OUT! Well, the umpire has given it eventually! LBW! Waqas goes first ball. Hong Kong now in tatters. Two in two for Bilal Khan. Another one of those full inswingers. This seems to be a little too straight though. Barkat fails to put bat on ball and is hit on the pads. An appeal goes up. The umpire starts to move across to his left but then decides to lift his finger. That's a very late decision. He, in fact, tries to put his finger down also but eventually has given the striker out. Bilal Khan is bowling a dream spell, he is on a hat-trick.
Waqas Barkat is the new batsman with Hong Kong in all sorts of trouble.

Bilal Khan To Aizaz Khan OUT!
OUT! KABOOM! Knocked him over! Three wickets in the 16 balls bowled and Oman right on top now. This is a gem of a delivery. Unplayable. An inswinging yorker. Can't do a lot about that one. It starts from outside off and comes back in late. Aizaz can't bring his bat down in time and the stumps behind are shattered. 122 needed in 104.

Fayyaz Butt To Kinchit Shah OUT!
OUT! TAKEN! Two down in the second over are Hong Kong and Oman are pumped up here. An unlucky dismissal one can say. It is full and tailing back in onto the pads. Shah flicks it nicely but does not keep it down and it goes straight to the fielder at short fine leg. Had it been to the left or the right of that fielder, it would have been a boundary. Kinchit Shah fails to make an impact with the bat. 126 more needed.

Close shave! A direct hit was needed! We saw Hong Kong hit the stumps when needed and Oman would have to do the same. This is shorter and around off, it is guided towards point. The non-striker wants a run but is sent back. The fielder picks the ball up and has a shy at the non-striker's end but misses.

Squares him! That is an unplayable delivery, that too first up. This one starts coming into the off pole and then leaves the batter late. Shah plays all around it and luckily for him, it beats the outside edge and the off pole.

Bilal Khan To Nizakat Khan OUT!
OUT! Boom! The off stump takes a beating! Just the kind of start Oman wanted! Bilal is a delighted man. He gets a fuller length ball to curl back into the batsman off the seam.
