It was a team effort - Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the victorious skipper of Bangladesh, says it was an excellent match. Reckons 300 would have been better, but was happy with the score. Mehidy says that Tanzid Hasan, Litton Das and Tawhid Hridoy played really well with the bat while Taskin Ahmed bowled really well, picking three wickets, which gave a lot of momentum to them.
PLAYER OF THE SERIES - Nahid Rana and Tanzid Hasan share this award. Rana picked up 8 wickets in the series, including a fine fifer in the first game, while Tanzid scored 175 runs in total. Rana says that it feels very good to get his first player of the series award. Adds that his simple plan was to try to follow his captain's plan and get as many wickets as possible. Tells that the wicket supported both the bowler and batters, and whoever did well got the reward. Rana mentions that he has been working hard, especially on spot bowling and trying to improve his skills every day. Ends by saying that he just tried to execute the same things in this game.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Tanzid Hasan wins the award for his excellent knock of 107 off 107 balls. He says it was a very important series for him. He tried to be cautious in the first 10 overs. Feels the ball was holding a bit later on and was hard for new batters to score. Tells that the team management always supported and backed him. Admits he doesn't try to hit too hard but time the ball well.
The team tried till the end - Shaheen Afridi, the captain of Pakistan, says the team tried till the end and credits the youngsters who stepped up in this game. On Salman Agha, Afridi says he is an all-format player for them, and has been doing this for Pakistan for a long, long time. On his innings, Afridi says it was his business to try but credits the way Bangladesh bowled in the death. Reckons they need more hard work and to be fit in all three departments.
Presentation Time...
Bangladesh bowlers deliver in dramatic finish - Bangladesh started brilliantly with the ball, with Taskin Ahmed striking twice early and Rana also chipping in with a wicket. They did miss a few run-out opportunities, but Rana and Mustafizur Rahman struck in quick succession to leave Pakistan five down. However, the bowlers were then made to work hard as Salman Agha counterattacked and looked in sublime touch. Mustafizur eventually broke the crucial stand, while Taskin returned to deliver the decisive blows by dismissing Faheem Ashraf and the dangerous Agha, finishing with a superb four-fer. Despite being hit for two sixes and taking a painful blow to his left knee, Mustafizur still came back to bowl the final ball of the penultimate over and removed Rauf, before Rishad Hossain held his nerve in the last over to seal the deal.
Good battle between bat and ball - Earlier in the game, Bangladesh posted a big total on the board, courtesy of a fantastic maiden ODI hundred from Tanzid Hasan, who was also involved in a massive 105-run opening stand alongside Saif Hassan. They did get a bit stuck in the middle overs when Litton and Towhid were batting, but the pair ensured they did not throw their wickets away, adding 68 runs together with both scoring in the 40s. Hridoy then managed to get a few away towards the end to push the total closer to 300. For Pakistan, Shaheen rotated his bowlers nicely and was proactive with the field placements. He was economical and picked up a wicket, while Abrar Ahmed also chipped in with one, but Haris Rauf was the pick of the bowlers, ending with a three-fer.
Late drama but Pakistan fall short - Agha continued to anchor the chase, adding a couple of more fifty-plus stands, first with Faheem Ashraf and then with Shaheen Afridi, while also bringing up a fine hundred. However, his dismissal at a crucial stage tilted the game again. Afridi kept Pakistan's hopes alive with two towering sixes off Mustafizur Rahman in the penultimate over, taking the contest right down to the wire, needing 14 runs in the final over. But Rishad Hossain kept his composure, and Pakistan ultimately fell short in a gripping finish.
Early collapse, Agha leads the fightback - Pakistan stumbled early on, finding themselves reeling at 17/3. Abdul Samad and debutant Ghazi Ghori had a few mix-ups between the wickets but still managed to stitch together a 50-run stand to steady things briefly. However, both fell in quick succession, leaving Pakistan in deeper trouble at 82/5. Salman Agha then walked in with his trademark calmness and, alongside another debutant Saad Masood, rebuilt the innings with a crucial 79-run partnership, taking calculated risks before the youngster eventually succumbed to the pressure.
Bangladesh prevail in Dhaka thriller - We have witnessed a thrilling contest here in Dhaka, with both teams having their moments and throwing punches at each other, neither willing to back down. In the end, Bangladesh held their nerve to clinch the series 2-1 at home, with Rishad Hossain keeping his calm when it mattered the most to help his side get over the line. This victory not only gives them back-to-back ODI series wins over Pakistan at home, but also provides crucial points in their push for direct qualification for the 2027 ODI World Cup. That said, Pakistan deserve plenty of credit as well, with Salman Agha producing a superb hundred while Shaheen Afridi played his part to take the contest right down to the wire.
