Right then. That's it from the coverage of this game. The two sides will meet again in Canberra this time on 12th October 2022, for the second match of this three-match series. The first ball will be at 1.40 pm IST (8.10 am GMT). But you can join us early for the build-up. Till then take care and goodbye!
Alex Hales wins the Man of the Match award for his incredible knock with the blade. He says that he is really proud of this win. They batted well and put up a good score on the board and the way they defended the target was outstanding. Adds that he is very keen to make the most of this opportunity given to him and this is just the start for him. Mentions that he took his time at the start, but he once he put one or two balls away it got easy for him.
Jos Buttler, the victorious skipper is in for a chat. He says that it was a great game of cricket. Adds they are delighted to get over the line. Mentions Australia were favourites throughout the chase but they needed to take wickets and that's what they did. On the incident involving Wade and Wood, he says that he had his eyes on the ball throughout, so he wasn't really sure want went through. Adds that they are in Australia for quite sometime and decided not to make the appeal here so early in the trip. On being asked, if it could've been different if it was a World Cup match. Jos Buttler replies maybe with a smile across his face.
Aaron Finch, the captain of Australia says that Nathan Ellis was outstanding, he bowled really well on a batting surface. Adds that the good thing is they got themselves into a winning position but the disappointing thing is that they could not finish it. Mentions that Ellis is a fantastic bowler, every time he gets an opportunity he makes full use of it. Further says that against great players it gets difficult to execute the plans. On being asked about his batting position, he replies that they will keep trying new things, but he will get back on top in the next game. It was only about giving Green as many games as possible.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
Earlier in the innings, after being inserted to bat England were on the attack from the word go. Jos Buttler and Alex Hales took the game away from them with an opening stand of 132 runs. England lost their plot a bit in the death overs but Chris Woakes' knock proved to be enough to get them over the 200-run mark. It was Nathan Ellis who stood out with the ball for the hosts. Later, it proved to be a bit too much for Australia.
England will be delighted with their bowling effort here. They started well with the ball, in the wicket-taking department, while they kept leaking aplenty. They were under the pump for the most part of the game. Their spinners were taken to the cleaners. It was Mark Wood who turned the game on it's head. He ended his spell with three crucial wickets which pulled things back for them. It was Sam Curran who bowled really well in the final over. He took two wickets and got his side over the line under pressure.
Australia left a bit too much for Matthew Wade in the end! It wasn't an ideal start for the hosts as they lost an early wicket in the form of Cameron Green. Although, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh stitched a crucial stand of 71 runs to stable the ship. David Warner was the heartbeat of this chase. Australia kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Marcus Stoinis though shifted the gear with his incredible cameo and helped to get the run rate below 9 as well. Australia were cruising in the middle-overs, but the over in which Wood took two quick wickets took the momentum away from them. Later, Australia fell like a pack of cards in the death overs and came out short.
A fascinating game of ebbs and flows! Matthew Wade seems to be upset as he is seen sitting near the advertising board, near the dugout. He could not complete the job for his side tonight. So, it is England that take a lead in this series.
