Bangalore:
India's fastest bowlers are still spending much of their time at the Bangalore conditioning camp behind bars inside the National Cricket Academy. When they emerged NDTV tried to find out their reaction to the new ICC rules. "I don't know about the rules right now. I've heard the 10 over thing is going to change. I don't know to be honest," said Balaji, member, Indian Cricket Team. Other young players at the camp were even less forthcoming - obviously deciding it was safer to model their media interaction on those of their seniors. However, former India players who will never have to play under the new rules felt safe in sharing their opinions. "I think it is good for the game with more interest. It might suit India better because they can use a fifth bowler also. More interesting, more planning for a coach and a captain," said Madan Lal, former Indian cricketer. With 20-20 cricket on the horizon, the aim of the changes is to make the one day game more interesting - so what do cricket fans think? "I think the rules are quite good because it will bring more masses to the game - it will make the game more interesting. Since 20-20 is quite close by they should go ahead with these rules, although they should educate people about the rules. It will involve more strategy basically. I think it is a good step," said Sohan, a cricket fan.Whether the changes in the ICC rules will actually succeed in spicing up the one-day game will be known only after they come into effect. But they have certainly grabbed the attention of both players and followers of the game.
