Rumesh Pathirage is your new Commonwealth Games men's javelin gold medalist! The Sri Lankan has been the form man all of 2026, and was the class of the field once again with a stunning 89.75m throw on his second attempt. World best in 2026, wins in two Diamond Leagues, and now a CWG gold!

HISTORY! Two javelin medals for India at Commonwealth Games 2026! Neeraj Chopra does not improve on his final attempt, but he does win his second CWG medal. A best throw of 85.83m for Neeraj, which came on his second go.

Take a bow, Yashvir Singh. A bronze medal with a PB of 85.41m!

What a throw by Yashvir Singh! He has saved his best for the last, and throws 85.41m on his final attempt. It's a personal best for Yashvir, and it takes him from seventh to third! He occupies the bronze medal position. Superb stuff.

And the bronze is confirmed! Anderson Peters improves to 83.88m, but that won't suffice. Douw Smit fails to do better, and so Yashvir is guaranteed the bronze!

The fourth and fifth rounds have not been good for any of the competitors, who seem to be struggling with the weather and cold conditions. Pathirage continues to lead, Neeraj is in second, and on the cusp of his second CWG medal.

Time for the final round! Can Neeraj produce one final hurrah?

We are down to the Top 8 finalists, and the fourth round of attempts comes to an end. None of the competitors manage to find an improvement. Neeraj Chopra manages just 80.73m with his fourth attempt, but remains in the silver medal spot.

All three Indians progress to the final three rounds of the men's javelin final. Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem is the headline name to be eliminated. Rumesh Pathirage leads, Neeraj Chopra is second, Rohit Yadav fifth and Yashvir Singh sixth!

Huge shock! Arshad Nadeem, the reigning Olympic gold medalist, will be knocked out after the first three rounds! He manages just 77.41m on his third attempt, and it won't be good enough to take him to the Top 8.

He will be eliminated among the bottom 4 after just three rounds. Massive disappointment.

A decent 81.29m throw from Neeraj Chopra on his third attempt, but he fails to improve on his best so far today. Right then, focus turns to Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem now. He must register a score to avoid elimination!

The second round of attempts are done. Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage is top with his throw of 89.75m. Neeraj Chopra is secon with his 85.83m throw. South Africa's Douw Smit throws 82.88m on his second go, and takes the bronze medal spot from Rohit Yadav.

India's Rohit Yadav is currently third with a throw of 81.56m on his second attempt.

Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage, Grenada's Anderson Peters and South Africa's Douw Smit all begin with foul attemps, leaving Neeraj Chopra in the silver medal spot after the first round. England's Ben East leads. 

It's a decent start by Neeraj Chopra, as he manages 80.97m on his first throw to leap up to second spot for the time being. Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem stumbles on his first attempt, ending in a foul throw.

In the 2018 Commonwealth Games men's javelin final, Neeraj Chopra had won gold by a massive margin. His best throw of 86.47m was nearly 4m better than the second-best attempt of 82.59m. Anderson Peters and Arshad Nadeem also took part in that final eight years ago; Peters bagged bronze, Nadeem finished eighth.

A very interesting factor to look out for in today's men's javelin final is the wind. Gusty winds and low temperatures affected each of the participants in the qualifying round. If similar conditions prevail, we are in for a very, very intriguing final. Adaptability will play a key role!

While the focus will undoubtedly be on the India vs Pakistan storyline as Neeraj Chopra and Arshad Nadeem face off, their biggest challenger might be Sri Lanka's in-form star Rumesh Pathirage. Rumesh came first in both the Rome and Doha Diamond Leagues in 2026, also achieving a best throw of 92.62m. 

The 23-year-old, a former cricket fast bowler, also made the best throw in the challenging qualifying round.

Neeraj Chopra provided a candid explanation on why he managed to throw just 79.61m in the javelin throw qualifying round:

"Conditions are not best for javelin throwers. Not only cold, but it's really windy. The wind was also not in the front; sometimes it's from the side. It's really hard to process where we have to throw. Sometimes we think, 'Okay, we'll throw there', but then the wind comes from the other side. And lots of throwers are struggling today. Nobody touched the automatic qualification mark. It was tough conditions, but we are happy that all three Indians are in the final."

The qualifying round for the men's javelin throw final at the Commonwealth Games 2026 posed a hugely tricky challenge for the competitors. With gusty winds blowing, not a single athlete failed to cross the automatic qualification mark. Neeraj was the best among Indians, but even he managed only 79.61m. Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem managed less than Neeraj, while the veteran Julius Yego of Kenya missed out.

India have won a total of 20 medals so far at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, with three coming in the last couple of hours in judo. 10 more medals are guaranteed with several Indian boxers reaching the semi-finals. Can Neeraj, Rohit or Yashvir add to the tally?

It has been a difficult, injury-hit season for Neeraj Chopra so far in 2026. Neeraj made his first official appearance of the year just a few weeks ago at the Doha Diamond League, where he finished a respectable fourth, with a best throw of 85.69m.

But one reckons that he'll have to do a lot better to beat the likes of Pathirage and Nadeem to gold tonight!

Neeraj Chopra will not be the only man carrying the Indian charge today. Rohit Yadav and Yashvir Singh have also qualified, and are among the 12 finalists in the javelin throw event. 

Interestingly, Rohit Yadav's season best (87.05m) is better than Neeraj's season best (85.69m)!

Neeraj Chopra has to overcome a massive battle tonight in order to win gold, or even a medal. Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, the man who beat Neeraj to gold in the 2024 Olympics, is taking part. Also taking part is Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage, who holds the world season best with a throw of 92.62m. 

Grenada's Anderson Peters and Australia's Cameron McEntyre are also forces to be reckoned with.

Neeraj Chopra is aiming to clinch his second gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026. The Indian superstar athlete won his first CWG gold in 2018. Since that success, Neeraj has won an Olympic gold and silver, two Asian Games golds, a Diamond League gold and a World Championships gold. Can he achieve a second CWG gold tonight?
