That's a wrap for our coverage of Day 8 of the Commonwealth Games 2026. Two more medals added to India's tally, taking it to 17. Here's a recap of the nation's best moments of the day:

1. SILVER for Lovepreet Singh in men's 110kg weightlifting, including Games record in snatch

Seema Kaliramna clinches bronze! A virtual head-to-head battle between two Indians for the final medal position, but it's Seema who beats Nidhi Rani to it. Seema's best throw 58.65m, Nidhi's 57.10m. 

Jamaica's Samantha Hall clinches gold with a best throw of 61.66m. 

Final attempts coming up in the women's discus throw final. Seema Kaliramna is still in third, Nidhi Rani still in fourth. Two Indians battling it out potentially for one medal, but can both surge into the top 3?

India's Parul Chaudhury falls well short of a medal in the women's 5000m race. She completes it in a time of 15:08.56. A brilliant race in the end for gold between Australia's Rose Davies and Jessica Hull, but Davies ultimately clinches it with a time of 14:44.53.

We are about 2000m done out of the 5000m in the women's final. India's Parul Chaudhary is in the mix, currently running ninth. Kenya's Caroline Nyaga is leading the field.

India's final athletics assignment of Day 8 is set to begin. Parul Chaudhary will be in action in the women's 5000m final. 21 competitors in the field. 

And it's underway!

Tejaswin Shankar comes fourth in his heat in the 400m race of the men's decathlon. That effort sees Tejaswin retain the second spot in the combined standings. Canada's Damian Warner is leading.

Here's the Top 5, as things stand. On to tomorrow for the next five events!

Both Seema Kaliramna and Nidhi Rani improve further with their third attempts in the women's discus throw final. Seema consolidates her bronze medal position with a throw of 58.65m. Nidhi betters to 57.10m; she's in fourth.

Time to switch focus momentarily to the fifth round of the men's decathlon -- 400m. Tejaswin is part of the second heat. England's Sammy Ball wins the first heat.

India's Nidhi Rani leaps up to the bronze medal spot with her second throw of 55.67m. But not for long, as compatriot Seema Kaliramna throws 57.32m on her second attempt to replace Nidhi in the bronze position!

The women's discus throw final is underway. India are being represented by Nidhi Rani and Seema Kaliramna in the event. Nidhi Rani begins proceedings; her first attempt is 53.19m.

Three athletics events remain on Day 8, with medals up for grabs in two of the events:

1:10 AM: Seema Kaliramna and Nidhi Rani in Women's Discus Throw Final (Medal Event)
1:30 AM: Tejaswin Shankar in Men's Decathlon 400m
1:48 AM: Parul Chaudhary in Women's 5000m Final (Medal Event)

Tejaswin Shankar tops the high jump portion of the men's decathlon, with a best jump of 2.15m. That sees Tejaswin go up to second overall in the combined standings, after four events.

David Liti, WOW! He lifts 223kg on his second attempt and shoots up to the gold medal spot! A massive 16kg jump, but he completes it. Heartbreak for Lovepreet Singh, who led the entire way but fell to silver in the final moments. 

Liti ends with a total of 389kg (166kg snatch, 223kg clean and jerk); Lovepreet finishes with 388kg (176kg snatch, 212kg clean and jerk).

Sensational from Lovepreet Singh! He keeps raising the bar in the men's 110kg weightlifting final. A gap of 15kg again between him and David Liti. The Kiwi will now go for a 223kg lift to try and close the deficit.

Lovepreet tries to lift 217kg on his last attempt, but he fails. So all eyes on Liti now. If he lifts 223kg, he gets gold.

Superb! Lovepreet Singh continues his terrific form and completes a 205kg lift on his first attempt in the clean and jerk round. He is by far and away in the gold medal spot, as of now. 

But New Zealand's David Liti lifts 207kg! He closes the gap to Lovepreet to 8kg.

Both Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Samardeep Singh Gill finish outside the medal positions in the men's shot put final. Toor finishes fifth while Gill manages seventh. Toor's best came on his third attempt (20.27m); Gill's best also came on the third go (20.03m). 

Nigeria's Chukwuebuka Enekwechi bags gold with a throw of 21.07m!

Five out of the six attempts have been done, but Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Samardeep Singh Gill are both outside the medal spots in the men's shot put final. They need a Herculean effort to enter the medal spots. Bronze is currently occupied by a throw of 20.99m!

Both Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Samardeep Singh Gill improve with their third attemps in the men's shot put final. Tajinderpal goes up to 20.27m, while Samardeep goes up to 20.03m.

Samoa's Sanele Mao, who was the only one to have a higher snatch first attempt than Lovepreet Singh, fails to complete even a single successful snatch lift. As a result, he is OUT! He will not be able to compete in the clean and jerk.

Meanwhile, Lovepreet improves from 170kg to 173kg, and then he sets the Games record with a 176kg lift! He is 10kg ahead of silver after the snatch round.

Animesh Kujur fails to qualify for the final of men's 200m. He clocks 20.65 seconds.

Lovepreet does not lift 170, but instead 168kg on his first attempt in the men's 110kg weightlifting final. And it's a successful attempt! That's the highest so far among all competitors!

India's Animesh Kujur will soon be in action in the men's 200m semi-final. He is in the second of the three groups. The top two finishers from each group, along with the next two fastest athletes overall, will advance to the final.

Meanwhile, Tejaswin Shankar is currently competing in the men's decathlon high jump event.

Here we go! The men's shot put final is on. India's Samardeep Singh Gill starts off proceedings, taking the first throw. His first attempt is 19.56m. Tajinderpal Singh Toor goes up to the bronze medal spot with his first attempt, with a throw of 20.06m. 

The mark to break at the top: 21.03m.

While the weightlifting final goes on, the slew of athletics events are set to begin, with Indian representation in them. We will kick things off with the men's shot put final, in which Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Samardeep Singh Gill will represent Team India.

In a few minutes after that, Animesh Kujur will participate in the men's 200m semi-final. Right after that, Tejaswin Shankar will participate in the men's decathlon high jump!

The men's 110 kg weightlifting final is underway! India's Lovepreet Singh is expected to contend for a medal, with his starting snatch lift set to be 170kg. 

Lovepreet Singh's Men's 110kg final about to start. Lovepreet was a bronze medal winner at the 2022 Birmingham 2022 CWG. This time too he has a great chance at winning a medal here too. As of now, Lovepreet has set 170kg as his first attempt in snatch - the third highest among all. 

In the last medal event of the day, 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games 5000m gold medal winner Parul Chaudhary will compete in the 5000m event.

Seema Kaliramna and Nidhi Rani will compete in the Women's Discus Throw Final from 1:10am (Friday). Seema is a national champion while  Nidhi recorded a personal best of 58.82m in 2026.

Then from 11:30 PM, Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Samardeep Singh Gill will be in action in Men's Shot Put Final.  The 31-year-old Tajinderpal Singh Toor is a two-time Asian Games gold medallist but is yet to win a medal at Commnwealth Games. Then there is the young Samardeep Singh Gill, who has shown prospect at the national and Asian level.

Martina's campaign may have ended in a heartbreak but there is still lots in store for India! 

Ate 11 PM, Lovepreet Singh will compete in Weightlifting Men's 110 kg Final. The 28-year-old was a bronze medal winner at the Bormingham 2022 CWG. He will aim to improve the colour of the metal this time.

Good news coming from lawn bowls. India have beaten Botswana in the tie-break. India won the first set 9-2, before Botswana clinched the second set 4-3. India then clinched the tie-break. This ish the third win on the trot for Navneet Singh and Dinesh Kumar.

NO!!! That's a real heartbreak! Martina showed great potential but failed to go past the 245kg mark. The debutant tried to lift 146kg in his third attempt, which would have placed her in the medal bracket, but it was not to be. 

Here is how the final line-up is: 

1. Emily Campbell: 278kg 

2. Siti Aqilah Farhana Draman: 253kg

3. Etta Mae Love: 250 kg

4. Tui-Alofa Patolo: 245kg

5. Martina Devi: 245kg

After she failed to lift 144kg in her second attempt, Martina is in fourth spot. Things have become trickier for the Manipuri lifter. Siti Aqilah Farhana DRAMAN (113 140) in in lead followed by Etta Mae LOVE (106 144) and Tui-Alofa PATOLO  (115 130).

Martina is in a great position to win medal! She lifts 140kg in her first attempt. Currently she is fourth! Siti Aqilah Farhana DRAMAN lifts 140kg to be on top. Her combined lift is 253kg.  

Meanwhile, in lawn bowls, India (Dinesh Kumar, Navneet Singh) vs Botswana are in action in Men's Pairs Sectional Play while in Women's Singles Sectional Play Nayanmoni Saikia vs Emma Firyana Saroji (Malaysia) is on. 

In the clean and jerk round, this is how the top-five competitors will go ahead: 

1. Emily CAMPBELL 115kg - 145kg
2. Tui-Alofa PATOLO 115kg - 126kg
3. Siti Aqilah Farhana DRAMAN 113kg - 135kg

That means Martina will lift second-highest weight. 

The snatch round is over and this is how the situation is:

Martina comes back with a bang in her third attempt. She lifts 105kg. She is still in with a fight. But will that be enough? 

Martina fails to lift 103 kg in her first two attempts. This is dangerously poised for the India star. One more failed attempt and she will be knocked out!

Too many events are coming up for India later in the evening. Just to jog the readers' minds, here are the top developments for India so far. 

1. Indian javelin throwers Neeraj Chopra, Rohit Yadav and Yash Vir Singh secured places in the men's javelin final. 
2. India’s Praveen Chitravel and Selva Thirumaran advanced to the men’s triple jump final
3. In the men's 400m race, however, national record holder Vishal TK failed to make it to the final round after finishing sixth in his semifinal heat
4. In decathlon, Tejaswin Shankar is fifth after three events. Two more will happen today 
5. India failed to qualify for final in two cycling events too. 

Martina Devi MAIBAM will atempt to lift 105 kg in her first attempt in snatch. New Zealand's Tui-Alofa PATOLO and England's    Emily CAMPBELL have set the bar higher at 107kg and 110kg respetively. Two other lifters Malaydia'sSiti Aqilah Farhana DRAMAN and Samoa's Iuniarra SIPAIA have set their first attempt at 105kg though. Martina has a genuine shot at medal here!

India's first medal event of the day has started! All focus on Martina Devi in the 86 kg event. Weightlifting has formed the bedrock of India's medal tally this year and there are high expectations from debutant Martina, who has done well at the Asian level recently.

Vishal TK finishes 14th in the Men's 400m Semi-Finals with a timing of 46.33 seconds. He iwas way below the mark. All eight who qualified has sub-46 seconds timing. 

Two Indian triple jumpers, Praveen Chithravel and Selva Prabhu Thirumaran, are in the final! In fact they have the second and third spots in the qualifying. India can very well expect two medals from the event. 

The shot put category in decathlon has finished. Tejaswin Shankar hurls the shot put 13.09m. Not the best of throws but it is not his strength too. Shankar good shows in 100m and long jump will help him. Overall, he is fifth (2558 points) after the completion of three events - 100m (870), long jump (1015) and Shot Put (673). Canada's Damian Warner is currently in top with 2765 points.

The Men's 400m Semi-Finals are on. In the first semi-final, India's Vishal TK has timed 46.33 seconds. He is sixth in his semi-finals. This timing may not be enough for him to enter the final. First 2 in each heat (Q) and the next 2 fastest (q) advance to the final. 

Another final loading for India? 

What a jump by Selva Prabhu Thiruman in his third attempt. He reaches the distance of  16.26m. It's the third highest so far after Jamaica's Jordan Scott (16.56m) and Praveen Chithravel (16.41m). All athletes meeting the Qualification Standard (16:60) or at least 12 best performers (q) advance to the Final. It is very likely that both Indians will qualify for the final. 

It's not India's day at the cycling velodrome. The Indian side finished last in Men's Team Sprint Qualifying with a timing of 46.396    . The fastest two winning teams race for the gold and silver medals, and the other two winning teams race for the bronze medal. In this case, Australia and England are the top two teams. Trinidad and Tobago were 3rd followed by Wales in the fourth place. 

The Men's Team Sprint Qualifying is on. The Indian cyciling team, comprising Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam, David Beckham Elkatohchoongo and Rojit Singh Yanglem, is in action. There are seven team in the fight for a shot at medal. The fastest two winning teams race for the gold and silver medals, and the other two winning teams race for the bronze medal.

Praveen Chitravel has jumped 16.41m in is first attempt and is currently on top  of the pile. Selva Prabhu Thirumaran fails to convert first two attempts. This is not looking good. All athletes meeting the Qualification Standard (16.60m) or at least 12 best performers advance to the Final

The Men's Triple Jump Qualifying Round (Group A) is on. Two Indians, Selva Prabhu Thirumaran and Praveen Chithravel, are in action. At the 2022 CWG, Eldhose Paul and Abdulla Aboobacker finished first and second. Praveen Chithravel finished fourth then. This time, he will be desperate for a medal. 

Lisha Das has finished her 4000m qualifying in 6:58.000. She is 1 min 51 secs behind England's Morgan Newberry, the first to take the track. In fact, she is now fifth behind Australia's Erin Normoyle (5:24.264) and England's Kadeena Cox (6:37.119) too. She will not qualify for the final. 

Men's Decathlon Long Jump is over and Tejashwin Shankar is on lead with a best attempt of 7.82m. His accumulated points are 1015. The next best athlete so far is Damian Warner's (7.77m) with 1002 points.

Currently in Paracycling Women's C4-C5 4000m Individual Pursuit Qualifying, Lisha Das is currently in action. She is the second to go after England's Morgan Newberry. In all there are six competitors. Qualification Rules: The fastest two winning riders race for the gold and silver medals, and the other two winning riders race for the bronze medal.

That's that for the men's javelin throw qualifier. Neeraj Chopra and two other Indians have qualified for the final, while Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem is also through.

Pakistan’s Muhammad Yasir registers a throw of 74.36 meters in his third and final attempt. This takes him up to the 12th spot in the standings. All three Indians can qualify for the final if it stays like this.

Arshad Nadeem not looking at his best, only registers a throw of 75.65 in his third and final attempt. His first attempt of 78.63 meters is still his best. He is placed 7th in the standings so far.

Meanwhile, in Men's Decathlon Long Jump, Tejaswin Shankar has gone up to the No. 3 spot in Men's Long Jump with a leap of 7.42 meters.

A better second effort from Neeraj takes him up to the 5th spot in the standings. He registers a throw of 79.61 meters. Neeraj is still not at his best but is in a comfortable position to qualify for the final.

Grenada's Anderson Peters with a brilliant effort that puts him in the second spot. He successfully covered a distance of 81.29 meters.

Rohit Yadav, another Indian in the fray, also improves with a throw of 78.37 meters. This effort takes him up to No. 5 spot in the standings. 

A slight improvement from India's Yash Vir Singh. He hits the 74.45-meter mark and is placed 9th in the standings at present.

Arshad Nadeem with a foul in his second attempt. It's the same case with South Africa's Douw Smit. England's Ben East has taken the No. 3 spot in the qualifier with a throw of 80.38 meters in his second attempt.

Neeraj Chopra makes his CWG 2026 bow with a throw of 76.28 meters. He wouldn’t be happy, but he is just getting warmed up. Plenty more to come from India’s Golden Boy.

Grenada’s Anderson Peters, one of the contenders for a spot on the podium, could only hit 76.09 meters. He would not be happy with his first effort, but it’s not the end of the road yet.

Rohit Yadav, the third Indian participating in the qualifier, impresses with a 77.04-metre mark in his first attempt. Now, only Neeraj Chopra remains, and he will be the last of the lot.

India’s Yash Vir Singh with a fine effort of 73.89 meters that puts him in the 5th spot at present. India also has Rohit Yadav in the mix. He will be in action in a few minutes’ time.  

South Africa’s Douw Smit with a fine effort. He breaches the 80-metre mark, but it isn’t good enough to earn a final berth directly. Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage, the man in form, hits 82.84 metres to go top, but it isn’t enough for him to earn direct qualification either. 
 

A poor first effort from Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem, who hits 78.63 meters in his first attempt. It isn't good enough for him to secure direct qualification.

As for the criteria, any athlete who hits the 84-metre mark will automatically qualify for the final. At least 12 of the best athletes are to qualify for the final.

Neeraj Chopra is the 18th man on the 18-man list. There will be special focus on what his compatriots Rohit and Yash Vir do today. The likes of Nadeem, Walcott, Yego, Peters and the red-hot Pathirage from Sri Lanka will also have the world's attention.

Not the sort of race Tejaswin Shankar would've liked to have. He finishes last among 6 sprinters with a time of 10.96 seconds.

Heat 1 ends in the Decathlon, Men's 100m sprint, with Scotland's Callum Newby taking the top spot. He clocked a time of 10.76 seconds.

The Men's Decathlon event is set to begin, with India's Tejaswin Shankar in action. We have high hopes for him. At 3:20 PM, Tejaswin will be seen in action at the Men's Decathlon long jump event, followed by Shot Put, High Jump, and 400-metre run. Tomorrow, he will participate in 110m Hurdles, Discus Throw, Pole Vault, Javelin Throw and 1500m Run

Away from the Commonwealth Games, a huge controversy has struck Indian sports after Hockey India released the 'saffron' jersey for the men's and women's teams ahead of the FIH World Cups. The federation has now issued a clarification on why the change was made.

"We wish to inform you that the decision to change the uniform colour was based on support staff & players recommendations and detailed consultations with them. The primary consideration was technical.

"It was observed that the blue playing uniform tended to blend/merge with the blue synthetic playing surface, which is now the standard colour of international hockey pitches. This visual similarity affected on-field clarity and visibility for the players."

"In light of the above, the coaches and players suggested alternative colours such as yellow or saffron. After careful consideration, saffron was finalised. Apart from addressing the technical requirement, saffron also holds deep significance as one of the colours of our National Flag, symbolising courage, sacrifice and national pride."
 

India will begin Day 8 of the Glasgow Games with Men's Decathlon, where Tejaswin Shankar will participate in the 100-metre sprint. He has been placed in Heat 2.

Day 8 of the Glasgow Games for India will also see para-cyclist Lisha Das in action. Yet, she stands in a situation where no athlete would've liked to be. The 16-year-old is all set to race without a female chaperone, which is necessary for putting on her aerodynamic kit / using washrooms.

While some late adjustments are being made to cater to her needs, the situation does create a mental roadblock, just hours before she makes her CWG bow.

India's Neeraj Chopra has been placed in Qualifying Round - Group A, with fellow countrymen Rohit Yadav and Yash Vir Singh. India has high expectations from Neeraj but it would be interesting to see if Rohit and Yash manage to qualify for the final. 

India scripted a memorable finish in the para athletics competition at the Commonwealth Games 2026 as Dilip Mahadu Gavit clinched the gold medal with a Games Record in the men’s 100m T47, while compatriot Mohammed Basil Morssinganakathi secured the silver medal to complete a dominant Indian one-two. Gavit clocked 10.71 seconds, producing a blistering run to shatter the previous Games record and stand atop the podium. Basil followed closely with a season-best 10.83 seconds, ensuring India celebrated both the gold and silver medals in one of the fastest races of the competition.

Three official medals added to India's tally on Day 7 of Commonwealth Games 2026, and a further six more guaranteed due to the superb performances of the boxing contingent. Here's a recap:

The men's javelin throw competition at the Commonwealth Games 2026 will be held in two stages, with the qualification round scheduled for July 30, followed by the medal-deciding final in the early hours of August 1 (IST).

Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra will begin his bid to reclaim the Commonwealth Games title when he takes part in the men's javelin throw event at the Scotstoun Stadium on Thursday. Chopra won the gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast but missed the Birmingham 2022 edition due to an injury. The Olympic medallist now returns to the Games in Glasgow with an eye on securing his second Commonwealth Games title.
