The hosts could not have asked for more on Tuesday, getting Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardena to walk back in the fourth over.

Kumar Sangakkara was the next to fall while Tillakaratne Dilshan's 19 barely added to the total with the visitors tottering 32/3.

Kapugedera Chamara steadied the innings however. He scored 62 and had good partnerships with Lahiru Thirimanne and Upul Tharanga.

Once the trio was dispatched, Bangladesh again took control.

Nazmul Hossain was the main aggressor as he claimed three wickets to ravage Sri Lankan batting.

Bangladesh eventually managed to bowl Sri Lanka out on 232 in 49.5 overs.

Rain in the innings break rendered a major delay and once the match resumed, the target had been reset to 212 in 40 overs.

The only time Bangladesh were pushed back was at the start of the chase. Nazimuddin was bowled by Nuwan Kulasekara in the second over to silence the crowd.

Jahurul Islam and skipper Mushfiqur Rahim (in pic) followed back without mounting a resistance.

He and Shakib-al-Hasan (right) had a vital partnership for the fourth wicket to set the tone and tempo for the second innings.

There was Tamim Iqbal in the other end still waiting for his turn to cut lose. And he did so in style when he finally managed to take charge. He scored 59 to steady the chase for his side.
Zoom
Despite their wickets in quick succession, Bangladesh managed to rush home in 37.1 overs. This is the first time the team has earned a title shot in Asia Cup, third being their previous best (in 1986).
