India vs West Indies, 1st ODI Highlights: A combined bowling effort helped India stop West Indies three runs short of their total in the first ODI of the three-match series between the sides at Queen's Park Oval, Trinidad on Friday. Earlier, the knocks of Shikhar Dhawan (97) and Shubman Gill (64) helped India post 308 for 7 batting first. In reply, West Indies were looking really strong at 133 for 1 during the 309-run chase but India bounced back and stayed in the game till the end to bag the nail-biter by a narrow margin of three runs. It is worth noting that Ravindra Jadeja, India's vice-captain for the series, has been ruled out of the first two ODIs against West Indies due to injury.
Shepherd manages to get a lemon cut for a four. It was a beautiful yorker from Siraj but Shepherd is riding his luck. The ball ran for a four and Windies need 10 more off 3. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a perfect nail-biter here.
Forget about the leg byes and edges, Shepherd gets this one from the middle of hit bat for a six. It was in the slot for him but he struck it with brute force to make sure it goes out of the ground without any hiccup. West Indies need 21 in 11.
Oh, poor Siraj! He bowled a beautiful yorker to Shepherd and beat him with his pace, but the latter managed to get an edge on it and the ball ran for a boundary towards fine leg.
Chahal gets the wicket of King. The gamble has paid off for India. Yuzvendra Chahal was handed the ball with an idea to break the partnership and he did it by trapping the big fish.
Brandon King comes down the track to Axar Patel and hits him over long-off for a six. Suddenly, the runs have started flowing for West Indies. Their skipper took the charge of scoring some quick runs after a quiet phase at the middle and King looks equally good now.
Another pull shot from Pooran for a six. This one sounded even better as Pooran picked the bones out of the dead meat. He remains West Indies' key in this chase.
Big wicket! We have a game here as Shardul Thakur gets better of Mayers. It was bowled on the tramline from Thakur and Mayers fell prey to it. The southpaw edged the ball and Samson collected the offering behind the stumps.
This is a poor ball from Chahal. He bowled on the pads of Mayers with the fine leg up. The Windies southpaw swept if four an easy for towards the fine leg region.
Brooks also comes into the act now! He has slammed Thakur over mid-off fielder for a six. The partnership between Brooks and Mayers is of 100 runs now.
Mayers grows in confidence! He comes down the track and hits Chahal straight over the bowler's head for a six. There was flight on offer and he connected on it with perfection.
That's a fifty for Kyle Mayers. It will be counted as his only fifty in the format as his maiden fifty saw him converting it into a century -- 120 runs. And West Indies will be hoping a similar performance from him today.
Brooks almost chopped a Mohammed Siraj delivery on his stumps but he rode his luck to see the ball pass not only the stumps but also wickeeper Sanju Samson for a four towards square leg.
This is poor bowling from Seales. He has not a deep extra cover fielder yet he bowled a juicy half-volley outside off stump to Axar, who accepted the offering and hit the ball over covers for a four.
