PAK vs ENG: England first team to hold ODI and T20 WCs together!
With their win over Pakistan in the final on Sunday, England have become the first team to hold the ODI and T20 World Cup titles together. Notably, they had won the 2019 ODI World Cup, the most recent 50-over world event.
PAK vs ENG: Sam Curran named Player of the Tournament
Sam Curran has also bagged the Player of the Tournament award. He picked a total of 13 wickets across 6 games at an impressive economy of 6.52. His bowling strike rate was 10.4 in the tournament while his best figures were 5/10 that had come against Afghanistan in England's T20 World Cup opener.
Sam Curran, who returned figures of 3 for 12 in his four overs, has been named the Player of the Match. He dismissed Mohammad Rizwan, Shan Masood and Mohammad Nawaz in the game. His bowling helped England restrict Pakistan to a below-par total of 137 for 8 in 20 overs.
Ben Stokes hits the winning runs and that's the second T20 World Cup title for England. They have chased down the target of 138 runs against Pakistan with 5 wickets in hand and 6 balls to spare. Stokes' unbeaten 52 takes them through.
A four and Ben Stokes has raced to his fifty. What a knock this has been from the England southpaw! He has played a crucial knock once again at the biggest stage. He did it in the 2019 ODI World Cup final for England, and now does it for the Three Lions in the T20 World Cup final.
That's a beautiful yorker from Mohammad Wasim Jr that gets rid of Moeen Ali, but is it too late for Pakistan? England are five down but they need only 6 runs to win off 10 balls.
Shadab Khan gets Harry Brook and the 39-run stand for the fourth wicket is broken! England are four down. It was a fuller ball outside off stump from Shadab and Brook hit it into the hands of long-off fielder.
A deperate review from Pakistan sees them losing one. Naseem Shah's pacy delivery outside off stump missed the outside edge of Ben Stokes' bat. Pakistan players appealed for a caught behind dismissal but umpire was unconvinced. Babar Azam decided to go upstairs but UltraEdge revealed that there was no bat involved.
A full toss from Mohammad Wasim Jr outside off stump to Ben Stokes and the all-rounder hit it for an easy four. England now need 62 to win in 62 balls. This seems like a cakewalk for the Three Lions from here.
That's a lucky boundary for England. Ben Stokes went for a reverse sweep on the fuller ball of Shadab Khan but failed to time the ball. The ball hit his the edge of his bat and went for a four down the leg side.
Ben Stokes and Harry Brook look to rebuild the England innings as the side needs 77 more runs to win off the remaining 72 balls. The duo has added 16 runs off 15 balls for the fourth wicket so far. The required run rate for England currently is 6.42.
Oh, how good is that a shot from Jos Buttler! This is superb batting from the England captain. Naseem Shah was creating some real trouble for him with swing so Buttler executed a scoop shot to perfection for a six over fine leg fence.
Some extra swing on the wide ball from Naseem Sham down the leg side and England get five runs off it as the ball also ran to the boundary rope for a four. Mohammad Rizwan did put in a dive but failed to reach to the ball.
Jos Buttler has hit Naseem Shah for two consecutive fours. Both the boundaries came on the off side via drive. Buttler is looking really confident at the crease and that is a good sign for England. Pakistan need at least one more wicket here to come back in the game.
It is a lucky boundary for Pakistan! A short ball from Chris Jordan saw Shaheen Afridi going for a pull shot. The batter got an edge on it and the ball flew over wicketeeper Jos Buttler for a four.
Mohammad Wasim Jr goes down! He departs for a 8-ball 4 and Pakistan stuggle to get over 140-rum mark. Their is brilliant bowling from England. They have beautifully controlled their opponents' scoring rate.
Sam Curran ends his quota of four overs with figures of 3 for 12. He finishes with 13 wickets to his name across 6 matches in the tournament. Chris Jordan will bowl the last over of the innings.
Sam Curran gets another wicket and England are a happier side now. A fuller ball from Curran and Mohammad Nawaz wanted to hit it over the deep mid-wicket fielder but failed to do so. he departs for 5 runs off 7 balls.
Chris Jordan has got the wicket of Shadab Khan. The Pakistan batter wanted to hit the ball over mid-off but failed to clear the fielder. Jordan's short ball got good bounce off the surface and all Shadab could do was it to hit the ball into the hands of Chris Woakes at mid-off. Shadab walks back for a 20 off 14 balls.
The momentum was with Pakistan till the 16th over but Sam Curran bowled a superb over to bring England back in the game. He conceded only 3 runs in his third over of the game and dismissed Shan Masood.
Sam Curran strikes again! This is brilliant bowling from the southpaw. He had a deep mid-wicket stationed and Shan Masood hit the ball exactly there. Liam Livingstone, who was standing well ahead of the boundary ropes, did not have to move much to take the catch. Masood departs after scoring 38 off 28 balls.
A poor fielding effort from Philip Salt at deep sees Pakistan get a four instead of a couple of runs. Shadab Khan hit the Ben Stokes' delivery in front of square. Salt covered good ground before putting in a slide to stop the ball, but his lack of concentration saw the ball slip from his hands and run to the boundary rope.
Outside off stump from Chris Jordan and Shan Masood hits it over extra cover for a four. The southpaw is now on 33 off 22 balls. Meanwhile, England pacer Jordan has been expensive so far for the side in this game.
