The scoreline reflected 11-6 against Mary but she managed to take the defeat in her stride. "I thank Jesus for getting me here," she said after the bout.

"Sorry I couldn't win gold or silver," is what Mary had to say after her bout. Fans would agree though that she need not be sorry at all as she showed a lot of spirit in her Olympic campaign.

She came in to the ring for her quarterfinal match against Tunisia's Maroua Rahali and looked calm and at ease.

Her opponent began on an aggressive note but Mary Kom stuck to her strengths. It was close for the first two rounds before she unleashed full fury.

The 29-year-old made Rahali swing and slash but did not let her connect. Exhaustion set in and Mary moved in for the kill in the third round.

She came back with heavy right punches which connected to leave the Tunisian, practically out of contention.

The fourth round had Rahali desperate. A desperate boxer is a boxer who has actually given up. Mary Kom sealed the match 15-6 and advanced into the semi-final.
