SunRisers Hyderabad Thrash Kolkata Knight Riders By 9 Wickets
April 21, 2019 20:49
SunRisers Hyderabad rode on the fourth 100+ stand between David Warner and Jonny Bairstow of the season to convincingly beat Kolkata Knight Riders in Hyderabad.

Khaleel Ahmed was the wrecker-in-chief for SRH. He picked up the wickets of Sunil Narine and Shubman Gill early on. Later in the innings, he came back into the attack to also claim Chris Lynn's wicket. He finished with figures of 3/33. (All images courtesy BCCI/IPL)

Kolkata Knight Riders kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The wicket of Dinesh Karthik, who was run out in an attempt to convert a single into a double, put paid to KKR's hopes of putting on a big total. Rinku Singh and Chris Lynn were then forced to put on a watchful partnership to resurrect the innings.

KKR bowlers did not look like they stood any chance of countering the David Warner-Jonny Bairstow carnage, and their job was made even harder by poor fielding efforts. Bairstow, incredibly, had three reprieves. He was dropped in the 2nd over by Cariappa, in the 12th over by Gurney and in the 13th over by Piyush Chawla.

Warner and Bairstow put on their fourth 100+ stand of the season against KKR. At one point, even their scores were moving at an identical rate. Warner was out on 67 while Bairstow saw the chase home with his unbeaten 80.

KKR gave three players their first match of the season vs SRH. Of them, Rinku Singh (30 off 25 balls) put on a good partnership with Lynn to take KKR's score to respectability. Meanwhile, Prithviraj Yarra was impressive with the ball, despite recording figures of 1/29 in his three overs. Bairstow was dropped off his bowling twice. He did get some reward though, bowling out Warner for his first ever IPL wicket.
