India won the toss and opted to field. It was a good call with Zaheer Khan striking in the first over itself. Rob Nicol was the first to leave.

This was to be Zaheer's only success in the match.

Irfan then, came in and removed Martin Guptill. New Zealand now on 2/2.

Brendon McCullum decided however, to anchor himself in but there was nothing defensive about his innings.

Irfan did manage to add two more to his tally including the wicket of McCullum eventually. By then however, the innings had gotten back on track.

McCullum's 91 off 55 had 11 boundaries and 3 sixes. It took New Zealand to 167.

The main highlight though was Yuvraj who bowled two overs and took a catch.

In reply, India lost Gautam Gambhir (3) early but Virat Kohli made up for the loss. He hit 70, his best in T20, to demoralise New Zealand.

Kohli was first supported by Suresh Raina...

...and then from the man of the moment. Yuvraj Singh came to the middle and off the fifth ball he faced, whacked a 90m shot into the crowd.

His 34 off 26 however could not take India home as the hosts lost by a run.
